We came for a taste of Hawaii and were not disappointed by the food or Maui Brewing’s flavors.

We made reservations for the patio at 6:00 only to find out that they can not guarantee any outdoor seating, so we waited 90 minutes to get a table outdoor.

Got together with old friends at this area restaurant, several of whom were impeded from timely attendance because of city wide traffic stop due to a local celebration. The staff at the restaurant was just perfect, friendly, quick to respond and anxious to tell of the offerings, accurately. Great service plentiful and good brunch food, and an outstanding wine and craft beer offering. Delightful experience and will be back.

The food is generally good; our seafood boil did not disappoint. The place was much too loud - the acoustics are terrible. Must make sure we sit outside the next time we visit the Happy Gnome

This restaurant always pleases. Recommend the mussels and steak tartar as starters. We had halibut and the bacon wrapped duck for main courses. All good.

Outdoor light supper. Just right level of server attendance. Let us talk, thanks!

The staff was great about taking our request for a birthday dessert. They served us a delicious complimentary dessert with a candle. Much appreciated! This is quickly becoming my go-to spot in the Selby-Dale neighborhood. My only complaint is the dining room noise level - difficult for a small group to talk.

We were given our food but had to wait for silverware. My mom’s sirloin was tough and room temperature. My boyfriend received shrimp on his bagel and lox plate, which was a surprise. He is allergic to shrimp. My mom sent her steak back and my BF sent his meal back too. They did comp my mom’s meal. My flatbread was tasty although room temperature. For the prices this place charges, we were unimpressed. It was Mother’s Day too, so for my mom not to get the steak dinner she wanted, I was a bit mad. Oh well. The patio outside was nice.

Went for brunch on Mother's Day with a friend. Quick, attentive service. Good food. There aren't a lot of vegan options but a good number of vegetarian ones.

We sat in the dining area which is very different than the bar area. It is quieter and was not completely full while we were there. It was chilly, but tolerable. Once our waitress noticed us she was quite attentive but for some reason it took about 10 minutes for her to know we had been seated. All the staff, though, was pleasant, informative and professional.
I will never understand why places trying to be trendy and calling themselves, "gastropub" believe that having American cheese on a burger or sandwich is gourmet. Even one of the Chef specials had American cheese mixed in with the other ingredients which otherwise did indeed sound fresh, and well made. Had I noticed this before we made the reservation I would have chosen a different place for this reason alone - I just simply can rectify the thought process that leads to using American cheese on REAL food.
We had french fries with garlic aioli for an app. They arrived almost before our waitress walked away from the table! That's nice, and the they were quite tasty along with the aioli. However, they were served in a metal basket with the fries dumped on a black cloth napkin. Normally I would only put food in a napkin that I couldn't eat and wanted to hide. I had a hard time picking through the folds for the smallish fries hidden inside. That's the last part - we had very few full size fries. It was all tiny ends and bits which made me think we got some sort of left overs at the bottom of the fryer.
My husband had the cheeseburger with a salad and enjoyed it. I had the black bean posole and it tasted fresh and tasty. When we left we both agreed it wouldn't need to be a repeat visit.

There are GF options, but I think if you are sensitive, stay away from anything from the grill or fryer. I was super excited about being able to have a grilled sandwich and fries like a normal person, but there must have been some cross contamination. The salads look good, so I will go back to try them.

We were given a patio table right away. Patio has great ambiance and was a lively atmosphere. We got too chilly and moved inside to the bar area. Both appetizers we had were delicious, and great beer selection. Service was friendly but seemed very hurried, very quick yes/no questions and answers with no lingering on servers part. While efficient service, this left something to be desired and took her two steps to get us the things we needed, versus pausing during each visit to double check that we had everything. To be specific, we would order a drink and would be ready to order the next food item, but she would walk away quickly and we would have to order the food when she returned with the drinks. We were not given a small side item that we had requested, though it was not on the bill at the end- I’m assuming she forgot. Good experience overall.

We went to the Happy Gnome for my Friend's Birthday. We had wonderful food and drinks. Our favorite was the Bee's knees. You should make pitchers of those. The waitress was helpful and friendly. The atmosphere was great. We will come back.

There was a “Meet-up” group present when we arrived. It was extremely loud-almost to the point where it hurts your ears. Our waitress asked if we wanted more wine. We thought she asked if we were okay with everything. Incidentally, more wine was brought to us but thankfully the waitress took them back and there wasn’t a charge. I would try this place again but if there is another bug group, I wouldn’t stay.

The food was good, the service good but a bit slow. It is a very noisey restaurant even in the back dining area. It can make it challenging for older ears to hear all the conversation at our table.

My friends and I made a reservation at The Happy Gnome for a special shared occasion. The atmosphere was friendly and comfortable at 5:00 p.m., and the wait staff was efficient and hospitable. Between us, we had the carnitas tacos, wild rice soup, and the baby kale salad. All three were incredible and very well presented. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to a friend for any special occasion, meeting, family event or adventure in St. Paul. Loved it.

The menu seemed to have gotten 'heavier'.
Way too much bacon (cubes of bacon fat) in the kale salad... the how salad/dressing and all,
tasted like nothing but bacon...
Please introduce some lighter fare and a new creative salad or two..

We went on Palm Sunday between church and a play at the History Theater. Very busy. Parking lot was full but found a spot on the street a block away. Food and service was excellent. Would have loved to try the make your own Bloody Mary bar, but was afraid I'd fall asleep during the play.
