The Hamilton Ratings and Reviews
My girlfriend and I were planning a romantic dinner, but I would say the ambiance of the place doesn’t provide that. There were too many other things going on around us that made it distracting. The food was good. Calamari was awesome and wine was great, but the steak we ordered was burnt on the outside. Gooey Chocolate cake was great too. Overall experience was pretty good, but not a date-type place.
We had a late dinner time but the food was freshly prepared and delicious. We had crab, filet mignon, and blackened catfish, and no doggie bags were needed. The only disappointment was dessert because, being Valentine's Day, they ran out of chocolate covered strawberries. Our server brought us complimentary cookies instead with our coffee. This was our first time at the Hamilton, and it set a high standard for the many times to follow.
While the experience ended up being okay due to being taken care of by a manager, I would not recommend going here. This was not the first time I have had bad service at this restaurant. I always want to give it another try due to the convenience and regret it every time. The hostess station was rude and dismissive and then gave attitude once we were being helped by management.
The Hamilton is one of our favorite restaurants. I have been here at least 10 times with small and large parties and never had any problems with the food, service or quality. I recommended it to my friend that was coming in town for work and we met up for dinner. We had a reservation and were seated right away. We were seated, and I had no silverware. Then we waited a while for our server. Then she came by and gave us menus but no wine list. We waited 15 minutes for her to come back to get the wine list. We ordered our appetizers and the macaroni and cheese was a bit cold. It also was not served with serving spoons and spoons were left out in our silverware. The mains were delicious. We were finished our mains before our server came back to see how the food was. Then we asked for a dessert menu. She forgot about us and came back about 20 minutes later and we asked again for a dessert menu. She provided one then and we chose the apple pie. Very good on the dessert as well. We got our tab, and paid. Our server was very nice but it seemed like she had too many tables and service was not what I expected at The Hamilton.
I picked the Hamilton because it has GF options and was something open downtown on a weekend. I found it a bit pricey for what it offered, but also that there were many more GF choices to the menu than I thought there would be. Our server was knowledgeable and asked right at the top if we had any allergies or dietary restrictions. I ended up getting an order of eggs Benedict, which I have never eaten due to being GF. They put it on a hamburger bun, which was weird, but OK, and they didn't upcharge me. There also was a delicious GF cake-like thing called Salvadorian Sweetbread that was very good. I don't think I would go back, but it was an enjoyable experience.
Second time at the Hamilton and the second time with subpar service. This time, not only was the service bad, but some of the food was cold. The waiter could not be bothered to come to our table and find out how everything was. There are many places to go in DC for brunch, and this will no longer be one of them for me.
Made a reservations to meet friends on a Saturday night. Arrived 15 minutes early and was asked if I wanted to be seated or wait. I waited but then was seated. While we were seated and waiting for our friends to arrive the server did not greet us until about 10-15 minutes after we sat down. The server did give us water and bread. After that we did order drinks and the server was a little bit more attentive. Once the rest of our party arrived the server was good. The server did not suggest any dishes to us. The server just took our orders. The server did check on us periodically. The food was delicious as usual. Served nice and hot. Overall we had a good night at The Hamilton and will come back again.
Servers and bartenders had attitude. Yes, it’s busy, but that’s the job you signed up for. Be pleasant to your customers, do not treat them like they’re ignorant, especially if they can’t hear you over the din of happy hour.
Dinner side dishes had been sitting under the lamp for a while before they were served. They were like warm and sitting in grease. Filet was meh. I can do better on my own grill at home. Overall service was slow.
Food was good. Definitely reasonably priced. Service however was terrible. We waited 15 minutes to be greeted received drinks ordered and waited another 15 minutes to receive our check. Server stopped by once after we received drinks. Would not return just based on the service level effecting my overall experience 10 fold. If I could be guaranteed good service I would return.
This was admittedly a Saturday night when both the wait staff and kitchen would be crushed with orders, but that doesn't excuse a one hour period between the order and the arrival of food for 3 people. My "medium" steak came out well-done, and the accompanying potatoes had obviously been frozen and hastily thrown in the fryer shortly before serving.
I didn't raise the objections immediately because I didn't want to wait another 40 minutes for a replacement to come out. We told the server after the meal was done and she became very defensive. To her credit, she took the steak off the bill, but it ended up being a rather disappointing evening.
Girls night out with dinner and a jazz concert at The Smithsonian. The Hamilton came highly recommended and thankfully I made Open Table reservations. Even though the place is huge, there was an 1 1/2 hr. wait but we got seated right away. The food did not disappoint!
We loved the look of the place, immediately. Love the wood and vintage feel. The place was packed Saturday night and we could carry on a conversation in a normal tone of voice. There were children at some tables and we never heard them. The service was outstanding and the food was flavorful and delicious. The drinks and selection of wine was great. We will definitely recommend The Hamilton and are planning to revisit very soon.
Trio of long-time friends out celebrating past joint efforts and future opportunities. Enjoyed our time and the good food -- from a oyster Po Boy to two renditions of burgers. Comfortable, easy to converse. Manager Carlos stepped in to overcome a blip in service -- perfect. Can't wait to return.
I made a reservation at The Hamilton through OpenTable. When I arrived, the other person in my party was already seated. I was told they had no idea where she was located. Their solution was to text her. For 5 minutes I waited for a response. The staff made no effort to locate the table. I finally called the other member of my party and found her waiting at the back of the restaurant without any assistance from the Hamilton staff. We both ordered drinks and we both received the wrong drink. While the waiter was professional and apologetic, this was not the experience that we expected. Food was good but the experience didn't leave a good taste in my mouth. At the end of it all, OpenTable sent me an email indicating I was a no-show for the reservation.
Went with a friend for pre-theatre dinner. The restaurant part is huge! We ended up just ordering sushi off the happy hour menu which was available at the tables -- half price rolls! Had plenty to choose from and it was all delicious. We felt like we made out like bandits. Our waiter was attentive and helpful, and made sure the kitchen was aware of our allergy information. Didn't order anything off the regular menu, which also looked amazing. We've already decided we'll need to go back to try the regular menu.
Probably the worst service I have experienced in years. The meal itself was quite delicious. Unfortunately, it was brought to us by a waitress that spent most of her evening missing in action or simply forgetting that we had even ordered anything. Throughout the night, even when it came time to pay the check, we felt completely neglected. At first I thought it was because our section was busy. 2 hours later... as we wrapped up our 2 course meal and the section was empty, it took another 30 minutes to get our check. At one point, I even left the table and went up to the bartender, asking if he could help us. Sadly, he seemed annoyed that I bothered him with a question that didn't involve a drink order. This restaurant has great potential. The food is excellent and the atmosphere was festive. The dining experience here would have been significantly different with better service.
