The Hamilton Ratings and Reviews
Couldn't get seated earlier than our 6:30 reservation, and when we were, it was in a table that was right behind the main bar - so noisy and crowded, we didn't feel like we were in a nice restaurant, but in a sports bar! And the food was just a notch above pub fare. Overall - not impressed. There are better choices.
The food was excellent and the staff were just wonderful, very personable and offered helpful tips about the menu. Had a great time and am going again next week with other friends. The noise level in the bar area was really high and it was also a little hard to casually talk in the dining room due to noise level, but it did not affect the overall experience in a bad way. I recommend The Hamilton.
Nice restaurant, service was poor. Toward the end, waitress seemed a bit better. We were celebrating a special event and poor service almost destroyed the evening. The restaurant decor was good. The Hamilton Burger was great, fries were over cooked. We asked for another order which came once we had already finished eating. Nice desserts. The restaurant was busy but both hosts were polite, professional, and helpful. When you are celebrating a birthday good restaurants generally provide the birthday girl/boy with a free dessert with a candle etc. This wasn't the case here. The bathrooms were nice and clean.
The Hamilton has a great kitchen. They deal with hundreds of customers at the same time but never lose the quality of the food. It is not great for business negotiations but it is the best choice when you don't know the preferences of your guest, because they offer an extensive choice of foods, from sushi to beef, from pasta to seafood to vegetarian, and always good. I strongly recommend it for family, friends or business celebrations, when you are not in a rush to grab a bite and have enough time to enjoy the moment and seize the day.
Found a HAIR in my mashed potatoes :-( Told/showed a waiter, not our waiter, and he immediately replaced my fork and took the potatoes away and apologized. Thank you! He told me someone would come to talk to us soon. Wonderful! Not only did no one come to talk to us about the unfortunate HAIR, they ended up bringing us a new batch of potatoes. When we looked confused the waiter/manager (NO IDEA who the person was) said to us "What, you don't want it?" and walked away. SERIOUSLY???!!! No manager came to talk to us. Our actual waiter never said a word so CLEARLY no one mentioned it to him or he chose to ignore. We were shocked. AND no compensation was discussed or just given. Why on earth would you assume I would want another serving of mashed potatoes knowing that I had just pulled a hair out of my previous plate? POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE - you don't know your customers at all! For an establishment that is so well known I would have expected better. I think its safe to say that when they get as busy as they were on a Sunday night, "customer care" is not a priority. Look, I have worked in the restaurant industry before and I know these things happen, but when the attitude of the presumptuous person who ended us bringing us a new batch of mashed potatoes acts like we are the ones making him go out of his way and he was completely annoyed, THAT right there is what lead me to write this review. Still Dumbfounded!
Despite our reservation and on-time arrival, we weren’t seated for 10 minutes. Food was delicious but service was unbearably slow. Our waitress acted like nothing was wrong and offered no apologies for the obvious delay. Adjacent diners, who had ordered or arrived after us, were already eating their entrees. When our entrees finally arrived, we were pressed for time (theater tickets). My husband ate his steak very fast, and our waitress made a joke about his speed when she came to check on things. We returned to the restaurant after our show for dessert and coffee. The coffee never arrived, even after we mentioned it twice to our (second, not the same) waitress. We will not return.
I've been to The Hamilton on multiple occasions for music and the service downstairs is ALWAYS on point! Saturday night was the first time I have sat in the dining room upstairs...The service was fantastic-we were early for our reservation and were seated as soon as we got there. We had tickets to see at show at the National and the staff was so accommodating of our time table. The food was delish (from the calamari to salads to pastas and crab cakes, and even the dessert- if you don't order the St. Louis Gooey Cake, you are no friend of mine) and so were the cocktails. It was a tad on the noisy side, but I'm sure if I had requested a booth, it would have been just fine. Overall, a great experience and we will be back!
Went for my birthday brunch with two friends, and the food was delicious. We ordered the ricotta donuts, which we were told would only take 10 minutes, but half an hour later, they had never arrived. Our serve was very apologetic, and instead, brought us a different dessert in honor of my birthday (which oddly enough, she still charged us for). Overall, it was a pleasant meal, and the food was wonderful.
It was incredibly busy pre-theatre. We had reservations but were not seated until almost 30 minutes after our reservation time. Then it took a long while for anyone to come to our table, even to give us water so when we did get to order, we had to rush through our food (soup and salad delivered together)in order to make the theater at 8pm. The food is pretty good though and I think it is a fun place to meet up with friends... just maybe not if you have somewhere else you need to be....
The restaurant is tastefully done, especially for such a large space (room after room). Food is good. However, the restaurant's initial reception needs work! This is where a restaurant makes a customer feel welcome...or not!! The hostess that seated us could not have seemed more sullen or less welcoming. She didn't say a word or even acknowledge us as she led us to a table; when we asked if we could possibly move to one of the open booths she again never said a word, never looked at us, led us back to the front, and then sort of sullenly put the menus at a booth and left.
My only problem was the front desk service. We had a reservation but had to wait in a very crowded entryway for 15 minutes. After we got seated everything went smoothly- good food and great service. Many options to choose from. Hubby had sushi platter and I had their pasta- both delicious.
Conveniently located for our group: 2 visiting the Renwick, one visiting from College Park, and one downtown worker on a lunch break. Service was good- friendly wait staff , quiet and comfortable seatimg, probably due to the heavy rain. Menu included a good variety and we had the Bento trio, a German dish, a sandwich, and sushi from the separate sushi menu. All delicious!
Had been recommend & we had only 2 dinners on our trip to WDC. Are we ever sorry this was one of them! Our food was terrible! Acorn squash filled with tasteless something, max$cheese you could make better at home, & a cornbread grilled cheese that was so messy & boring. The apple butter was great, but that was it. 👎
