The Hamilton Ratings and Reviews
Other than the Sushi, which I enjoyed, the food was underwhelming. The cornbread grilled cheese was dry and had insufficient cheese, the steak was bland and there was nothing exciting in any of dishes. The wine selection was limited and, honestly, I didn't like any of the three bottles I tried. I think the temperature for all three were high - even the Cote dDu Rhone.
All that said, the service left too much to be desired. Not only were there constant interruptions - literally every 5 minutes someone came to the table - but also they were very brash and just came and barged in, entirely interrupting our conversation with absolutely no grace and without any semblance of an apology. This included both our server and everyone who brought various food items to the table.
I will say that the location is good and the restaurant's decor is nice. Our private room was nothing short of 5-Star.
Sat in the back dining room - nice place for two. Quiet enough to actually hear conversation. Fortunate to have a table mid-room, not on the banquet] (Don't prefer another couple at my elbow). Good drinks, delicious food. The standout was actually their black-eyed peas soup ... different and wonderful. There seemed to be some confusion about who was actually serving our table, but it all worked out. Will be our go-to place when we have tickets at the National Theater.
My GF and I really enjoyed our meal at the Hamilton. We ordered sashimi and sushi. The sushi rolls were well done. They had a really good variety and the quality was very good (the scallop roll is definitely worth a try). The fatty tuna (toro) sashimi was the only disappointment. While it was good, didn't have that melt in your mouth experience that you find with higher end toro sashimi. I would definitely recommend to try this place, as the sashimi was by no means a deal breaker. I will be returning to try some of their grilled meat options (steak, burgers, etc) in addition to the sushi.
Overall, we liked it. Family of 4, kids 9 and 11. The ambiance felt a bit old school power lunch vibe, but the kids found it fun. Portions are huge. Overall, DC expensive but for what we got, not bad. Service was friendly, a bit chaotic as there were a number of greeters and servers. Overall, I’d recommend and dine again.
My girlfriend and I were planning a romantic dinner, but I would say the ambiance of the place doesn’t provide that. There were too many other things going on around us that made it distracting. The food was good. Calamari was awesome and wine was great, but the steak we ordered was burnt on the outside. Gooey Chocolate cake was great too. Overall experience was pretty good, but not a date-type place.
Excellent food in a terrific ambiance, marred only by the significant noise level. Beef stroganoff (a difficult dish for many restaurants, it seems) was fresh and tasty; beet/grapefruit salad likewise. Service was topnotch - attentive without hovering. Overall a great time; will be visiting again!
One of our favorite downtown restaurants. Great for pre or post meal at nearby theaters or just stopping by when in the area. Always excellent food at reasonable prices. Good selection of wines. Even when the place is very busy (usually), the kitchen produces excellent dishes in a timely manner.
We had a late dinner time but the food was freshly prepared and delicious. We had crab, filet mignon, and blackened catfish, and no doggie bags were needed. The only disappointment was dessert because, being Valentine's Day, they ran out of chocolate covered strawberries. Our server brought us complimentary cookies instead with our coffee. This was our first time at the Hamilton, and it set a high standard for the many times to follow.
Our first time @ Hamilton as Old Ebbitt was booked. Very glad for the experience. Early time (5:30p) plenty of room. Were seated in far/large room by the manager on duty - he recommended the lobster bisque and he was RIGHT! Server Lelynd was prompt and food came quickly. Manager checked back with us, nice gesture. Crab cake, pasta, and scallop dishes all great. Bread pudding fabulous. We'll be back!!
While the experience ended up being okay due to being taken care of by a manager, I would not recommend going here. This was not the first time I have had bad service at this restaurant. I always want to give it another try due to the convenience and regret it every time. The hostess station was rude and dismissive and then gave attitude once we were being helped by management.
The Hamilton is one of our favorite restaurants. I have been here at least 10 times with small and large parties and never had any problems with the food, service or quality. I recommended it to my friend that was coming in town for work and we met up for dinner. We had a reservation and were seated right away. We were seated, and I had no silverware. Then we waited a while for our server. Then she came by and gave us menus but no wine list. We waited 15 minutes for her to come back to get the wine list. We ordered our appetizers and the macaroni and cheese was a bit cold. It also was not served with serving spoons and spoons were left out in our silverware. The mains were delicious. We were finished our mains before our server came back to see how the food was. Then we asked for a dessert menu. She forgot about us and came back about 20 minutes later and we asked again for a dessert menu. She provided one then and we chose the apple pie. Very good on the dessert as well. We got our tab, and paid. Our server was very nice but it seemed like she had too many tables and service was not what I expected at The Hamilton.
