The Hairy Lobster
Food is excellent!
This by any standards to include the huge competitor of 3000 restaurants in Portland.
The food was exquisite! Fresh and creative!
I will return at my next opportunity.
There wasn't any dish I didn't love!! ♥️
The pork with mustard and the rabbit we're a few of my favorites. Overall I had one of the top 5 dinner experiences in foodie Portland.
Server wasn’t very personable. When asked how Hairy Lobster got its name he said “...it’s a long story, let me get your order in and I’ll come back and tell you...”. Well, he never did. We had to ask someone else at the end of the dinner as we were giving our server a chance to redeem himself. Never happened! He also didn’t seem to know much about the rose wine sampler either, or was just snobby.
I tried two new dishes on the menu and both were exceptional. The problem I have now when going to The Hairy Lobster is that if there are not new items on them menu too try I have difficulty choosing what to eat because everything is so delicious. I don't know how chef David Root does it, but very dish is always spot on.
It was good it was fun, went with my boo and ate the lobster platter but, the coleslaw was unseasoned and to much mayo.
Excellent food, absolutely delicious and the portion sizes were just right. The rabbit and frizzled shishito peppers were wonderful choices. The service was faultless. Can't wait to go back again.
Good food. GREAt place to eat outside on a nice night. Feels like I’m in Europe.
Service great. Nice to speak to the owner
Amazing Quality both of food & ambiance
We would eat here daily. Thank you!
Kitchen is a fabulous treat to watch!
Every dish we had was excellent. This is truly a great restaurant,
Really creative menu that changes frequently. Every plate is a work of art (especially the desserts) and so delicious. I don’t have adequate space here to describe how much we love this restaurant!
Amazing food, relaxed atmosphere, and competent efficient service.
The Hairy Lobster is one of my go-to restaurants for a relaxing and delicious weekday dinner after a long day of work. Every dish I've tried has been nothong short of amazing and their desserts are out of this world. They also have fantastic craft cocktails that are always changing with seasons, so you know they're using fresh ingredients! Can't wait to go back!
It was date night for me and my girlfriend (which I specified in the open table app but apparently that does nothing for you) and when we arrived they sat us next to a family with 3 children. Mind you the restaurant was not even close to being full so I just felt like this was a crappy experience listening to whining babies while I spend $200 on dinner. Food is good, ambience was horrible.
Food was outstanding. Loved the whimsical presentation of dessert. Thank you to hosts for a wonderful dining experience.
The food! Every new dish brought out we stopped and said wow! Seemed Small portions but after 4 plates for 2 people I was very full.
Lovely first time experience here. Food was incredible though portions as smallish, meant to be served family style. The service was very warm and welcoming and the atmosphere was cozy and inviting. We had dinner and drinks and am excited to go back to do it again!
Amazing food and beautiful decor! Would go back anytime I visit Portland.
The cocktails and food were truly excellent. We enjoyed the shared plate experience. Every dish was delicious, with well-layered flavors and textures. A special pastry appeared to celebrate the anniversary at our table. The service was unobtrusive, helpful, and well done. We will definitely be back. Only criticism ... the “cheeky” restaurant name doesn’t well represent the classy casual vibe with top-notch local food.
The best trout I’ve ever had!! Chopped salad was outstanding! Easter Bunny dessert was art, and we scraped the plate clean, it was that awesome!!!
Too expensive, no complimentary bread which we really needed with all the rich food. Portions were tiny for sharing.
Got all sharing dishes. Most were excellent and a couple outstanding. The charred brocoli and the scallops with cucumbers were both extremely tasty, as was the crisp pork belly with grits. Service was attentive without being overbearing.
Such great food! Everything we had was amazing! Definitely a must try place.
Great service forget his name but wore glasses and helped us move our table top a better one for my boyfriend's birthday on Saturday.
Delicious food and drinks- great service- highly recommend
The mushroom pique is outstanding! The pork and mac was excellent and the scallops exceptional. It is our new favorite restaurant.
Great food in a really enjoyable setting. Service was fabulous
Excellent service and incredible drinks & food! Love it!
We were on a family vacation to Portland from the San Francisco Bay Area and decided to give The Hairy Lobster a try. We are so happy we did! The dishes are meant to shared - portions are larger than tapas but smaller than family style. Everything from the dinner rolls to the dessert was absolutely delicious and our server was fantastic.
We went to Harry lobster to celebrate a birthday and were there for the very first time, and our Takeaway is that we are coming back! Everything was excellent I can’t think of anything I would recommend to improve. Make sure when you go to enjoy the homemade ice cream it was delectable!
Decent food, excellent service. Missed having more lobster options on the menu as one might anticipate given the name of the restaurant. The food offerings were lacking when you attempted to put them together...flavors as well as veg vs. protein. Decent place but not what I had expected for the price.
The Hairy Lobster was phenomenal! Great atmosphere, great wine selection and the food was outstanding. Highly recommend the pork belly, the scallops and the Mac and Cheese. You won’t be disappointed.
First, great location in SW Portland with a view of Jamison Park: lots of people and families enjoying the spring weather, wedding photos being taken, along with two skateboarding Bulldogs! Ask for a window seat if you like people watching. Went with a friend for Portland Dining Month. There were two choices for each course and we split them up so we could try each one. Everything was very good and the service was just right, IMHO; no hovering, but there when we needed. The wine flight I ordered resulted in a new favorite for me. My only (slight) complaint? The table water had an off taste. Overall, a great experience.
We had high expectations since all the reviews were so great. The food was very mediocre, the portions were small and the prices were astronomical for what you got! Now I can scratch that off my list and never go back there again. We ended up going to tasty on alder for dessert and wish the whole time we are eating dinner there.
The lobster plate is way too pricey and basic.
We went to enjoy the Portland Dining Month menu, but everything on the menu looked so good we couldn't help but supplement. While all the food we had was fantastic our favorites were the Pork Belly and Grits and Scallops in Green Curry. Now for details... the grits were buttery and cheesy with chunks of pork belly covered in a tangy bbq-esque sauce with bits of perfectly cooked tender chicken. The perfectly cooked scallops paired with a spicy (but not overly) green curry sauce and the best pickled cucumbers/onions I've ever had.
Top notch food and ambiance. Excellent service and not pretentious. Experienced chef / owner who enjoys chatting with the guests and making us feel at home in a very special restaurant .
Awesome restaurant. Great menu. First time for us and will be back
Service was excellent. Sound level was good. Mushroom bisque was outstanding!
Everything was delicious. We were there for the Portland Dining Month, but had other items from the menu. Service was very attentive and knowledgeable of the menu and made excellent suggestions
