The Gun Barrel Steak & Game House
Enjoy town's largest selection of high end beef & game all slow cooked over an open mesquite wood grill. Plus chicken, fish, pork and more, served in a rustic lodge atmosphere.
Great food, but poor service. The waiter passed by our table several times without asking for drink refills.I finally had to flag him down to get the refills.
For a "must go" place, it was just ok. The salmon was great my steak was not even mediocre. Couldn't even get cheese for my almost fully cooked baked potato.
Elk Chops were delicious! Highly recommend!
Food was incredible, service was excellent. Would recommend
Very good food , somewhat expensive! The service was outstanding!!
Service was impeccable. Fun atmosphere. Food was very good, but don’t expect hi falootin presentation or cheffing. Just the basics, but the basics are delicious!
Food and service were excellent! We arrived a few minutes before our reservation and were seated right away. I had the Elk Pops and my husband had the Bison Steak. Both had great flavor and texture. The polenta that came with mine was just okay, but didn’t detract from the rest of the dish. The creme brûlée was perfect, and my husband had a teton mule with dinner that was very good. We’ll definitely come back the next time we are in town!
We had a wonderful visit to Gun Barrel! Our server was great and the food was delicious! We started with the potato skin appetizer. For our entrees, my husband got the filet and I got the filet medallions. I could eat those medallions every day, they were amazing! We finished up with bread pudding and apple pie for dessert. The desserts were good, not great.
Boot leather- is the only thing that comes to mind when thinking about the ribeye from Gun Barrel - and the rest of the evening wasn’t much better.
Upon being seated we waited appx 12 minutes before anyone came to our table, this was on a Tuesday night in off season, so really no excuse for being super busy. Once our server finally came to the table, was very nice and helpful... one of the only good things about the evening.
We ordered apps- the artichoke dip was really good.
Next came the salads- they were crisp and fresh.
When the main entree came the presentation was mediocre at best. I had a ribeye & baked potato. There were green beans too, which was a surprise as the menu stated one side (choice of mashed or baked potato or rice). The green beans were rubbery and had no flavor. The baked potato was completely sealed inside the foil, had to cut open myself as it was too hot to unwrap. There was one small pat if butter and a small dollop of sour cream served with the potato... nothing else.
Now to the steak- it was about 1/4 inch thick, dry and so tough I had to saw through the few bites that I took. The flavor was lacking and the only thing memorable was the briquette flavor. No seasoning to speak. Even if it had been a flavorful steak it was inedible as it required so much effort to cut and chew.
My husband ordered the same meal except mashed potatoes instead of baked potato. They were okay.
We were so disappointed in our experience- so not recommend this place at all!
You will not be disappointed in this place!! The food was so good the first time that we ordered again the next evening to go. Make reservations and go. You deserve it!!!
Excellent service! The food was amazing!!
Unique menu, easy to get in and out of and the place is very cool... lots of animals.
I like my elk rare, but the cook needs to at least cut the horns off before sending it to the table to be eaten.
This was our first time visiting Jackson Hole. Everyone told us we had to go to Gun Barrel so we did. We will certainly recommend this place to all our friends.
Food was pretty good and ambience was nice. For the money paid, what was noticeable was the absence of any premeal bread or any kind of sustenance. In addition, the utensils were reminiscent of a diner.
My husband and I came here because we ate here on our wedding night 10 years ago. Not the same, and not nearly as good. I fell in love with elk steaks here, got the elk lollipop and it was not cooked well, and smothered in sweet jam. Not a fan anymore.
The food was excellent, the service was very efficient and we didn’t have to wait long for our meal.
Steak was not cooked as requested. Ordered medium and it came raw. When I asked to have it cooked as ordered it came back burnt on both sides. I just don't eat burnt food. The waiter was rude and arrogant. When I asked what comes with the steak he told me green beans and any 2 other sides. I told the waiter I did not like green beans just hold them he found it necessary to tell me that I had to take the green beans.
There are too many other choices in Jackson to put up with lousy attitudes and bad food.
Social distancing was employed very well. All servers were masked. Excellent service. I ordered beef tenderloin which came with a delicious blue cheese sauce. However, next time I would ask for the sauce on the side, because it totally overpowered the flavor of the beef. My husband loved his prime rib. Our meal was very good.
We were searching for a local steakhouse and wild game. We found this through good ratings and reviews but it felt more like a longhorn steakhouse. Very touristy. The food was good but it felt more like a chain.
Food was ok. Service was really really fast. I think they want you in and out ASAP!
Our waitperson was attentive and very friendly. Food was very good and with COVID, busy. Hostesses were okay but between the four at the door when trying to buy merchandise, service was less than stellar.
Steaks were great, Elk cops were perfect.
Had a blast. Our waitress made it fun despite the place being kind of empty
The food here is amazing. The atmosphere is truly western! The music soundtrack was terrible. Why in the world, when you have a western theme going, would you choose 80’s rock? Where is Hank Williams? Old style western music? This is a great place for families looking for good food with western kitcsh
My steak was cooked well but tasted as if they don't season anything prior to throwing it on the grill. Grill marks aren't a flavor and they should at least add some salt and pepper for a nice flavorful crust on the outside of the steak. The place came highly recommended by the locals but pails in comparison to other steakhouses. Would not recommend this place.
Our waitress Anna, was great.
Great food and comfortable atmosphere! They sat us within 5 minutes of our reservation time.
We were seated per our reservation time. The servers were all very friendly and helpful. I had the prime rib with green beans and baked potato. My husband had the flat iron steak with garlic mashed potatoes and green beans. The meat was cooked as we had ordered and was delicious. We both had a local beer.
Overall this was a good meal and we would return next time we visit. You do need to make reservations. We went at 6 pm on a Sunday evening and there was a continual stream of people coming in who were told there was an hour to an hour and a half wait without a reservation.
It was fine, server was really busy and could have used a hand but she managed well.
Expensive, horrid cocktails, servers could have not have cared less about our experience. The taxidermy is cool, that was the high point.
I had higher expectations for this place but ended up being disappointed. It’s a pretty basic steakhouse with very few standout dishes. Pork chop lacked flavor and baked potato was basic. The buffalo ribs were super tender but the sauce was just ok.
Mark our server was excellent! So much so, we came back the next night and requested Mark. Thanks, Mark!
Excellent wild and tame, well seasoned selections. Fun Western atmosphere.
Warm, rustic experience and the food and service were very good!
It’s always a must on our agenda when we come to Jackson Hole.
We knew going in that the prices were high but thought we would splurge for our anniversary. The food was good but not worth the money.
We come here yearly and was slightly disappointed that the menu had changed. The elk medallions were no longer on the menu and they no longer offered bread prior to the meal (which was my sons favorite). Overall the food was still great.
We had a terrible food experience. We had a table of 6, we ordered multiple items and was highly dissatisfied with it all. Our waiter did a great job.
Worst 400$ we ever spent.
I was not disappointed. So glad I was able to book on Open Table. We could walk straight in. Great place to eat.
