The Gruene Door Ratings and Reviews
Gruene Door is one of the best restaurants in the area including San Marcos and Wimberley. The menu is full of delicious and beautifully prepared items. There is something for everyone! We have never been disappointed in our visits here. Highly recommend a reservation, too!
Our group was celebrating a special birthday and this restaurant was happy to accommodate our large number. The menu and food are outstanding, and I cannot say enough about the stellar service we received. The ambiance was perfect with beautiful Christmas decor throughout. This wonderful restaurant is highly recommended.
We just stumbled across Gruene Door when looking for Sunday late brunch before heading back to Fort Worth. What a wonderful find! The food was perfect (if your dish doesn’t come with flash-fried spinach, order it on the side) and we now have another excuse to come back to New Braunfels...dinner at the Gruene Door!q
My husband, son, and I went to test out the menu, as I was looking for a good group menu option for a work event. The restaurant has a wonderful setting. The ambiance is great. Servers are friendly. The chef creates wonderful meals! My husband had the shrimp and grits--he's tried many around the greater San Antonio area and wanted to make sure that I specifically wrote, "these were the best he's tried in/around San Antonio!" My son had the pork which was equally as good. He ate every bit of it. I had the Chicken piccata which typically comes with linguini, but they gladly substituted the garlic mashed potatoes. Again, very flavorful dish. The pricing is really reasonable for the quality. For 3 of us, the bill was less than $90 and that included a $12 alcoholic drink. The area of Gruene that this restaurant is located is really neat also. You can take some time to walk up/down the quaint street with local shops and restaurants. I highly recommend this place and we will be back again!
The Greene Door is my favorite restaurant in town. Great food -good service. This time it got noisy because people from a rehearsal dinner were socializing by our table. It would have been nice if someone from the restaurant had ushered them towards their table sooner, but otherwise it was a great dining experience!
We went for an anniversary brunch and the entire experience was great. The host showed us right to a table and made sure to wish us a happy Anniversary. The brunch menu is just right with options to fit most folks. I had the shrimp and grits and it was fantastic. I highly recommend the Gruene Door for any occasion.
The food was good, very good in fact and the portions were very generous. I preferred the spinach/artichoke dip to The Grist Mill's. The the service seemed a bit slow. The biggest issue, the deal breaker.....the noise level was almost unbearable. I would go back but I would only sit outside.
Nicer restaurants are limited in the small town of Gruene, so Gruene Door has that advantage. Unfortunately this is the 3rd time we've had ridiculously bad service. Hostess sat us promptly, waitress greeted us and said she'd be right back with waters. Roughly 10 minutes later I had to ask for the waters. We were celebrating so we were anxious to have a glass of wine...we ordered the wine and thought we better order an appetizer then as well. Now, 15 minutes passes and the appetizer comes. No sign of waitress. We asked the food server if he could check on our wine. He did, found our waitress who came over empty handed and said "oops I'm so sorry let me go get it". That took forever. So when she came back my husband and I ordered our main meal and a salad and soup first pls. Needless to say never saw the starters...Finally after she said she was sorry for the 3rd time we asked for the check. It took so long for the check I was fuming so I went to the bar. That was the only positive experience. Great bartender, very attentive. Should have eaten there. Oh well. I so want it to improve but GD continues to under whelm me. Sorry
