Rockets pre game meal
Our server was remarkable slow, relative to the other tables near us. Guests seated 5-10 minutes after us had their drinks and food well before we did. Our bottle of champagne was barely chilled when we finally received it. (I think they chilled a room temperature bottle once we ordered it... the wait being because it needed time to cool off). The food was very good, when it finally arrived.
Loved the brunch. 3 courses $20??wasn't expecting much for that but so surprised. Had corn salad:fresh corn tomatoes, avocado walnuts . Beef hash on cauliflower grits. So good.very tasty. And the pound cake for dessert. Simple , and plentiful. Lovely atmosphere. There were a lot of young families when we sat down, but more younger crowd came in soon after. Great place to meet up with friends after night in the city or with visitors.
Wonderful ambience and food.
Great place, really good food and the service was top notch.
My mother, DIL and myself were downtown to attend the Houston Ballet. As it was being held at the George R. Brown (due to the Wortham being flooded by Harvey) we decided to have Sunday brunch at the Grove. It's located in Discovery Green just a block away from GRB. Lovely restaurant - light and airy with a large row of windows overlooking Discovery Green. I had requested a table by the window on my OT reservation and we received that. The valet, hostess and wait staff were all friendly & efficient. No issues with the staff. However, the food is another matter. 3 generations were represented in our group - 80, 60 & 28 - and none of us were particularly thrilled with our brunch. On the positive, the deviled eggs were good and my DIL liked her grilled corn salad. Of the 3 entrees, mine - the shrimp & grits was the most unpalatable. Not only did it look unappetizing, it tasted bland and was extremely greasy. I ate the shrimp and a few bites of the grits & kale, but mainly left it alone. Whoever thought up this combo, needs to go back to the drawing board. The kale in it is tasteless and way too much. My DIL had the beef eggs benedict and thought it was ok, but not great. The meat is bbq and again way too greasy - as in grease pooling on the plate. My mother had the honey biscuit with chicken. Hers was the best by far, but not great. The waiter graciously offered my DIL fruit for dessert as she is Gluten free. A nice gesture. My mother had the meyer lemon poundcake and I had the brown sugar pound cake. The lemon one was the best - good lemon flavor and moist, but the brown sugar one was dried out.
All in all, I give the Grove a 4 for location, look and staff. A 2 for the food.
I went to the Grove with a friend before the Ballet at GRB. The location, relative to GRB is fantastic! The service was great without being obtrusive.
We met at 12. I had not previewed the menu. I was expecting to see some lunch items. However, they really only had breakfast items (they called it Brunch).
The one thing that could have been much better was that my espresso came to me luke warm. I expected it to be piping hot.
Nice ambiance and good find for downtown restaurant we could walk to from our hotel. A bit overpriced.
This was our second time to eat at The Grove and it did not disappoint. The food is delicious! We started with the Queso. It was divine and just the right amount of spicy. The filet mignon was cooked to perfection and seasoned so well, it made my mouth water. I tried the Texas Corn as my side dish and wow! It was sweet, spicy and tender. I seriously could have just had the corn and been happy. We ended with the banana pudding tiramisu and like everything else, it was fabulous.
The Grove is a beautiful restaurant with great service and even better food.
Everyone at my table had great food. The service is outstanding. The location is lovely and the noise level is magically a non issue and you can chat without yelling. Wine selection is great, too. Did I mention how awesome the service is? The only thing to note is that I would really recommend any of the fish and maybe not get the steak- all of the delicate fish seemed really well prepared.
We sat on the patio because the weather was nice, but we weren’t paid attention to much. Beet hummus wasn’t amazing, but I enjoyed my wedge with added chicken. The cosmo fizz is good!
Food was excellent and service was very good. We ate at the Grove while at a convention and it was very convenient to hotel. Our only issue was it was very noisey, which can be expected when there is a convention.
Food was great and the value for the quality and quantity was very good. Service was very promt and staff new the menu very well. Great design in the restaurant, but I wish the rooftop patio was open. Maybe it's too early for that in February/March.
Six of us were in town from California to see a family member performing at TUTS when we fell upon Grove and after reviewing the menu and photos on line we picked up our family member and the seven of us showed up for their Sunday brunch. Everyone ordered something different and all of throughly enjoyed our meals. Great service, great food, great experience!
Had a work dinner here - price was as expected for location. Steak was great and cooked to perfection. Mexican corn was yummy. We ordered the bread and butter appetizer - I’ll pass next time. I would eat there again. My co-worker went three times in one week - he loved it.
We made a reservation - definitely recommend doing that.
Enjoyed service and views
First time here. And we love it! Great pick. Especially since we reserved last minute for Valentine's day! The servers were polite and respectful. Give definitely recommend this place
Really good food and service! My wife and I went on valentine's day so it was pretty packed...had to park in a garage on another street because the valet was taking too long. I think for a normal date night the menu would be more affordable, but of course on Valentine's Day, all of Houston has inflated prices for their menu. Go for a date night that doesn't have the inflated prices and you'll be set. Right on Discovery Green downtown so it's pretty neat.
Everything was great except for the food. Flat iron pork was tough and the stuffed drum fish was not filleted enough.
The Grove is good for any occasion because the food is consistently good along with good service that being said.....this is our go to spot before any events that is at the Toyota Center be it a Rockets game or concert.
Food was amazing. Beef belly was outstanding. Luckily saved enough room for dessert, incredible!
We were looking for a convenient spot for lunch before symphony matinee. Parking was not convenient unless you wanted to pay for the valet service. The food was good and a creative twist on southern food. The service was not very good at all. Waiter got my drink order wrong and the place was so noisy I can understand why. I could hardly hear him and he could hardly hear me. We waited loo long for our cocktails and barely had a chance to enjoy them before the food arrived. It seemed they were trying to rush us through so they could seat another party
Live this spot, they have very creative meals that are very tasty. My friends loved it and said they would return soon.
Amazing!!! Perfect! Thank you!
Ceviche had the right blend of ingredients and delightfully spicy. Gulf fish in parchment paper was unexpectedly delicious and exceeded expectations in both quality and quantity of fish. Chicken quesadilla had different ingredients than normal (i.e. baby mushrooms) but worked well together, was a little small though for the price.
Birthday celebration. Gave us time to visit - no pressure ordering. Great recommendations
Had sweet potato soup and the smokey Caesar salad with iced tea. The soup was delicious. Was able sit by the window looking out over the park in a pleasant sunny day. The room was quiet enough for conversation. Our waiter, Eric, was attentive and did a very good job.
Great food with work colleagues before Rockets game
A fantastic place to dine. Great food and wonderful service.
Our meal was delicious. The beet salad was the best I’ve eaten.
Always a great experience. Delicious food, nice wine selection and lovely views of Discovery Green.
Been awhile since last eating here, but with a light crowd on a Friday night, we enjoyed conversation and really good food with very nice selection options. Need to go again soon.
I had the pork chop and it was fantastic.
The location is in a bustling part of downtown so before or after dinner we could walk somewhere interesting. We were seated promptly. During dinner we were surrounded by windows. Three of our party had a salad with corn and avacado that we all thought was fantastic. The noise level was good for a group of six, neither too quiet so it felt too serious, nor too loud so we couldn't hear each other talk. Overall it was a good choice for a festive dinner.
Great food and service. Enjoyed lunch.
Waitress was a little lazy for how busy they were. She only had one other table but kind of ignored us. Food was fantastic, great restaurant just ok service.
The ambiance was amazing, the food was mostly very good and the service was great, Britney, our server, was so polite and sweet. Even the vallet workers were extremely nice.
Will difinetly come back!
I am a fan of the Grove. I went for dinner before a Rockets game recently and was able to get in and out in less than an hour to make the game. The menu is inventive and quite good. I highly recommend it.
What was once a great spot for brunch had dwindled to a mere shadow of itself.
Mango Mimosa advertised but not s mango in the building.
Dry dessert cake that begged for whipped cream and additional sources of moisture.
A waiter that was SCARED to tell my fiancé that the restaurant was out of an item.
A bar tax on the drink that we were comped when the mimosa situation turned bad.
Valet service that needs to be more careful in the tight quarters they work in
Headaches from it all.
The restaurant was beautifully decorated, we had great service, and the food was delicious. Made us both say "we need to get downtown more."
