The Grove Surbiton
lots of staff working but they didnt appear to be doing much at all. lots of tables left full of plates and glasses. very slow bar service. loos were gross and needed a clean.
So many friends and neighbours raved about The Groves Sunday Roast so my Boyfriend and I went for the first time on Easter Sunday which was also our Anniversary so a double special occasion.
We had to send back the starters as they were over cooked.
We waited and waited then a member of staff came and apologised as there was a mix up in the kitchen.
Still waited for what seemed like an eternity for the mains to arrive which they got wrong and they weren’t hot so we should’ve sent them back too. Felt embarrassed sending them back so we ate them but we were completely unimpressed.
The staff were good but the meal was awful.
I feel bad leaving this review as they did discount our meal quite considerably but it was bloody awful and we definitely won’t return,
I guess we were unlucky as I’ve never heard anyone else say a bad word about the food but feel like I needed to speak out about our experience.
I’m sure the staff will remember this incident as they did everything they could to rectify but unfortunately I’ll remember this as the worst roast ever. Sorry guys!!
A great local pub with big garden, Bar and separate Restaurant. I have been to The Grove many many times. The Roast beef this time was very tasty but was very fatty. That is the only fault i have. They had also run out of chocolate truffles which three people on our table wanted but we settled for a Brownie instead.
Lovely food wine and atmosphere
Great roasts in Sundays!
Not for food. The Grove has a great range of drinks and lots of good events. Unfortunately there was only one choice of food for me and I am coeliac and vegetarian. I rarely eat fish but a sea bass dish was the only gluten free and non-meat options. However, it did contain chorizo which I had to have removed. Unfortunately there was no discount to the price for removing a ingredient.
The veggie wellington was not a 'wellington' more like a quinoa pie.
The Yorkshires were great! Sadly we turned up to a table for four rather than five. The staff seemed a bit overwhelmed by the rush of people and a bit scatty. But the daffodil give to the mums was a nice extra!
Outstanding service, beautiful setting and delicious food.
Excellent friendly service. We were there on Christmas Day and for Mother’s Day. Each time the staff were charming and efficient.
I thought the vegetarian gravy was too thin and there was an awful lot of roast beetroot with my Butternut squash Wellington but my 5 fellow diners had no complaints. Lovely touch to give the “mother’s” a bunch of daffs. It’s a dog friendly pub and I will be coming more often.
Excellent, friendly waiters. The roasts were good without being superb. Generally a good experience.
Great food and service, nice buzzy atmosphere, quite a busy Saturday night, but the staff were very attentive. 2 Vegan and 2 non diners good menu options including wine. Will go back soon!
My boyfriend and I went on Friday for the first time the food was lovely and great service
Good atmosphere in the pub, as the rugby was on, the Sunday roast was good; a good size & decent quality, the service could’ve been better, but expected given the bar was busy.
The Grove is a great pub serving good food.
Well run, very friendly staff and always a good time.
We had a very enjoyable Sunday lunch. The staff noted and acted on our request for a table in a quieter area. The food (roast beef and sea bass) was excellent and portion size quite hearty. The French Malbec wine and Zephyr bitter were both very good. Although we were some of the most senior customers we were still made to feel welcome. Prices are a little on the steep side with discretionary service at 12.5% added to the bill
Nevertheless we intend to return.
There were a few dishes unavailable (a very busy/sunny day) but the ones we had + the quality of the service more than made up for it, I would definitely recommend the Sunday’s roasts, the deserts, and it’s a great place for a drink generally.
Excellent Sunday roast. Delicious and excellently cooked beef. Lovely wine too. Lots of beer to choose from at the bar. Fairly pricy, but not unreasonable. Excellent service given it was very busy. Nice ambiance in the ‘dining area’, with a nice booth table. Busy and quite noisy pub, but that’s expected on a busy Sunday.
I adore this pub. Me and my boyfriend are vegan and they are always happy to adjust their Sunday Roasts to accommodate our requirements. We visited again today with more friends who are veggie and carnivores and they all thoroughly enjoyed their meals. The staff are always friendly and welcoming, it’s really always a pleasure to visit. I have rated the noise level High, but this is only because the the restaurant is generally busy but it isn’t off putting in the slightest as it creates a great atmosphere. Can’t recommend highly enough.
Lovely service lovely food
The Sunday menu was very limited as my children would have liked a pasta option but the roasts were excellent.
The puddings are unreal! Going back just for that alone!
We couldn’t pay for stuffing as an extra to have with our beef... slightly annoying
Love this place best roasts around and have spent many occasions here.
Great restaurant with very welcoming and hospitable staf. Very attentive. Food was delicious and nice and hot.
This pub used to be great. It’s still nice, good atmosphere, but food and service have definitely gone downhill. Food was ok, service was ok, but not amazing. Disappointed this time. Prob won’t rush back.
Great food and service and child friendly as well. It’s a great pub with a great selection of craft ales too. Definitely will be returning soon.
Great Pub. Fantastic Food and Lovely people.
Highly recommend 👍🏽
I had a roast beef dinner to die for. 10\10. Really good wine list. Certainly coming again.
Booked a table for New Year's Eve dinner, 4 adults and 2 young children - first plus point was there was no strict set menu and no additional charge because it was new year.
The restaurant has a nice atmosphere, calm, with the buzz from the bar in the background - unfortunately we had a table with some very noisy unruly kids behind us (not The Grove's fault!), otherwise I'd have given a higher ambiance rating!
The food was great, proper pub food, good portions and well cooked - we had mains and desserts, there wouldn't have been room for 3 courses and I recommend saving some space for dessert, you won't be disappointed.
The kids meals were a really good size and fresh, well-cooked food.
The service was fantastic, our waitress took time to interact with the children, kept us looked after with drinks etc., and the manager came over at the end to make sure we'd had a fun night and to thank us for coming.
These are all simple things, but they really took the time and made the effort to make us feel welcome and valued customers. We will definitely be going back.
Exactly what we needed on Boxing Day with 3 young kids: prompt service and tasty food!
Service was great and waitress super friendly to our children. Food is good without being great.
Great service and food, the waitress we’ve had a few times is so lively and friendly, just so easy to relax and have a good time.
Fantastic roast dinner. Friendly staff and excellent service. Child friendly too! We will be back.
We had roast dinner. The food was luke warm at best and served on unheated plates. The sprouts were very undercooked.
Lovely staff and food - bit too dimly lit
Fantastic Sunday lunch, great vegetarian roast, fine with kids
Being an affluent suburb of London, Surbiton has its share of good pubs. I like gasto-pubs and Grove holds its own with choice of beer wine and food as well as welcoming staff
Lovely staff and service, reasonable pricing but pub area very shabby... lots of torn seats and old furniture. 3 of us had lunch, fish and chips and curry was good, burgers was poor... smelt of old meat and did not seem to be good quality meat.
Great pub, lovely food. Starters amazing, mains good, although menu has changed recently and feel could do with a couple more mains choices. But great atmosphere and staff brilliant. Highly recommend.
We had such a lovely meal , friendly staff even though they were so busy they were very attentive to our needs . We all enjoyed lovely Sunday dinner.
