The Grove Ratings and Reviews
My wife and I decided to try the Grove based upon a recommendation from a friend. We made an 8:30 reservation and got there a bit early. He asked if we wanted to sit early and we did. He set up a two top table outside as requested and it was the perfect evening for it.
The menu changes quite often and we had great things to choose from that evening. I had the Octopus for an appetizer. I've only had Octopus a few times, but, this was simply the best I've ever had! Then for an entree I had the Wahoo and my wife had the Corn Agnioli pasta dish. Both dishes were out of this world fantastic!! For dessert we opted for the "Monkey Bread", which was absolutely decadent! The wine choice that evening was a 2011 Moutan Pinot Noir from Oregon. Excellent wine choice and many more to choose from! Great experience, Paul and Chef!! Thank you.
After hearing so much about this place, I was really looking forward to seeing what the buzz was all about. The very visible kitchen looked big, clean and well equipped but lacked a sense of activity. Obviously there is no need for controlled chaos when so few dinners are being prepared but I miss the action. Food was very good; especially the beef and foie gras. It would have been nice to have a martini but I can live without that for one night (maybe?). All in all, it's a nice spot that I would go back to again but it is not Great, yet.
The food and wine list is unparalleled in Palm Beach County. The halibut cheek appetizer is the best dish we have had anywhere - topping the best meals even in Paris.
Management needs to hire more staff. While our server was great, she was the only one serving the entire restaurant on a busy Saturday night.
A full bar is needed as well.
Make those improvements and it rates 5 stars.
In the past ten years South Florida has grown tremendously in the culinary arts and if you want to try one of the bests come to The Grove. Cozy simple, yet elegant decor, impeccable personal service and the most important of all, incredible delicious food. Flavors out of this world. I was amazed by the original flavors in my multicolor beets salad. The grill octopus, by far the "best" I have tried, even better that the one cooked by me at home. If you live around Delray Beach or pass by, go to The Grove, you will be surprised.
This is an excellent restaurant from start to finish. The room is diligent with about eight tables with proper space between each of them. The noise level is moderate and speaking to your dining partners is easy. You can see a small kitchen through the wine rack where one shelf and one assistant produce astonishingly delicious food. Here is an interesting small list of wines by the glass and a large selection of bottles. The service is professional and friendly. And example of the extra touch is the handwritten bill which looks like it piece of beautiful calligraphy. All of the appetizers and main courses are inventive and delicious and beautifully presented. I had the Dutch White asparagus for an appetizer. All four of us enjoyed our main courses. Prices were standard for such good fare
We love many of the fine restaurants in the Boca/Delray Beach/Palm Beach area, but The Grove never disappoints. The freshness of the food and perfection of the service, along with the friendly attitude of owner/manager, Paul, makes The Grove one of our most favorite restaurants here. Do not be shocked by the small menu. You will usually find one or two fish dishes, a chicken, vegetarian, beef and pork dishes, as a main entree each night. But, believe me, you will come back again and again, as we do. Try the beet salad, it is unique, too. My wife and our friends had the fish and I the beef filet for our main courses...perfect! No liquor, just beer and wine. Small restaurant, makes you feel like you are having private dining, as you can watch the Chef prepare your meal. Wonderful evening with great service.
The Grove should be on everyone's foodie list to visit! Food was perfect, with somewhat small portions, which I prefer AND we were too full to have dessert! Carter was an exceptional waiter. He paid alot of attention to us and we appreciated that, as in our past experience at other restaurants, a "2 woman" table is pretty much ignored. The atmosphere lends itself to romantic but is rather noisy. Wish they had more outdoor sitting, would have preferred the quiet outdoors. The street it's on is very quiet, not busy.
Have dined here before and looking forward to a great experience. The fist letdown was they had a new "rule" in effect you couldn't order 2 apps in lieu of an app and a main because it interferes with the production in their small two chef kitchen. This was actually printed in the top right of the menu. OK, never heard that one before but it's their place to set the rules.
After we order the table behind us complains and is allowed to get 2 apps as their meal.
I had the octopus wife had the pasta with dungeonous crab, I've had the octopus before and it's usually great, but I thought this was too salty and the outer layer separated from the core. I liked my wife's pasta but she thought they went a little heavy on the Meyer lemon.
I had quail for my main and was disappointed, it was stuffed with a too wet mixture of bread crumbs and sausage, that overwhelmed any flavor from the quail. Not trying to be insulting but I've had better stovetop stuffing. My wife's mahi we both thought was very good.
Maybe they were not firing on all cylinders last night, but at this price point the ridiculous appetizer policy and a $40 corkage fee will have me dining elsewhere.
We spent a week in Delray and ate each night at one of Open Table's top picks in Delray. All of the restaurants were very good, but The Grove easily tops the list. The food is so beautifully prepared. I had the beet salad which was a work of art in both presentation and taste. The entrees were fabulous. And do *not* leave this place without the Monkey Bread dessert. I may well return from the northeast just to have that dessert again. Our waitress was fantastic - knowledgeable, pleasant and funny and spent exactly the right amount of time making sure we were happy. Of Open Table's top Delray restaurants, this one shines.
The Grove is without a doubt the best restaurant in the area. I hope to enjoy all special days here in the future when I'm in town. Paul is great managing the front, and after your first time there, he will always remember you and your name whenever you walk back in. Mike is a wonderful chef and puts everything in to every meal. Check them out, you will not regret it!
The Grove in Delray Beach is a hidden gem. This is one of the best restaurants in Palm Beach County. The atmosphere is elegant, romantic, and earthy. The food is expertly prepared and is creative but still grounded in reality. The pasta made in house should not be missed. The wine list is not huge, but offers a vast and balanced selection. Absent are the grocery store brands that plague south FL. Instead you will find grower producer wines that are truly reflective of their terroirs. Service has always been friendly & attentive without being overbearing. Perfect for foodies and oenophiles.
The food here is always perfect and the service is even better. Christina, Alyssa and Paul always make us feel like we are very well taken care of. It is by far the best restaurant around!
The fried chicken is divine - no grease! - and they always have an excellent steak choice. We enjoyed seeing the quail and venison on the menu, although we didn't try then - something different!! You just can't go wrong with anything you order.
The food and atmosphere truly are very good, but I can't help feel that something was missing in order for me to give it the excellent recommendation that I think it is capable of achieving. Our appetizers and entrees were both very good, but the menu was limited and not particularly accommodating (and the menu we were given didn't match the one outside). It was clear that the regulars get very special treatment, but I found the service to be a little cool. For the price and based on previous experiences, I guess my expectations were too high this time.
