The Grilled Oyster Company Ratings and Reviews
A very good, neighborhood spot, and we'll go again. The oysters are great, and the wine list is fine. The evening we went, the restaurant was about half full, and it was easy to hear one another. It would be nice if the booth benches were re-done: they're too low for average heights, and particularly for shorter people.
3 stars to recognize the very good well presented food. Unfortunately, the staff was disorganized and frantic. 2 coffees arrived 20 minutes apart and desert finally showed up 20 minutes after the coffee was gone. Maitre'd was apologizing to everyone in the restaurant. Bartender was leaving his station to serve tables. Not a precision machine.
This was our first time here, we came with another couple. We had a reservation and were seated right away. The host was very friendly. We sat at a booth, the bench was low and uncomfortable. Our waitress was friendly, informative, and we had wonderful service. She explained the menu and made great suggestions. We all enjoyed our food. We had appetizer of fried oysters and crab hush puppies, and entrees were Cioppino, Three grilled fish, and lump crab cake. Everyone was happy. We will definitely come again.
This is a neighborhood restaurant that I've been wanting to try for a while so we took a friend there on a Sunday evening. It is mainly a seafood restaurant; the food was excellent and the service attentive but not overly so. We especially appreciated that it was easy to talk, although I imagine the noise levels might be higher at a busier time. We definitely will go back.
The Grilled Oyster was a restaurant that I had frequently passed by when perusing the shops at Cabin John Shopping Center, but had never patronized. I decided on a whim to try it out with a date, who hadn't yet tried culinary seafood. We both found it to be a great spot, and she enjoyed trying Maryland crabs from the menu. I myself found the clam linguini to be nearly perfect, with savory flavors from the pasta and the clams melding into an appetizing dish. There are a large number of premium seafood items, specialty foods, and a selection of desserts. The atmosphere is one of social conviviality, but not excessively loud. Great for groups or dates, I highly recommend this gem to anyone looking for premium seafood in Potomac or the D.C. area in general.
Delicious food, great service and would have given 5 stars except for the following:
Manager and bartender were talking way too loudly to patrons at bar, and we could hear them at the other end of the restaurant. Annoying.
We were seated at a booth in a long string of empty booths. A family of four was then seated in a booth directly behind us, when they could have been seated at any one of several empty booths away from us.
This was our third visit to this restaurant and it was a bit disappointing. It wasn't terrible but it was not as good as before. All of the oyster appetizers were great - fried, raw and grilled. The entrees were just OK though. The scallops were the best of the bunch but the rockfish and the pasta dishes were nothing special. The server also was just adequate. He lacked polish and professionalism - we felt more like we were eating at a pub rather than a good restaurant. We have had very good meals here in the past and will try again but I sure hope it is better next time. We have recommended this place to others in the past but not sure I would again until we see a return to our earlier experiences.
Excellent restaurant week menu with amazingly good value as well! For $16 we had superb oysters two ways to start. The Rockefeller were especially good and large. The crab cake main course was well prepared and sitting atop fresh tomato terrine that was perfectly chilled that made it even better. The fresh corn salad to the side was interesting and great.
The other main course- a soft shell crab sandwich- was tasty but actually small considering I was told it was large. I did not expect a whale, the jumbo size, but I should have been warned about the size.Had a great deal of problems with the explanations on prior visits so was sensitive to the accuracy of the information. But considering the price I should not be complaining!
Service could not have been friendlier or more attentive- 5⭐️s to our elegantly server- also I hear a rather fantastic mixologist!!!
We were sort of regulars, although have not been there in a while. This time the food was uniformly excellent from the oysters, calamari, spaghetti with shrimp, and soft shell crabs (My wife had the sauteed, mine were fried). Service was excellent, and the owner came over to chat with us as well. Only draw back is the limited wine list.
We love the Grilled Oyster. It's a great menu, good fish, nice appetizers. The calamari is always great. I could go a couple time a week and just have some oysters, calamari and the Spring sangria. The drink menu is loaded with nice fruit choices like the blueberry mule. The service is pretty good but sometimes bustling instead of friendly.
we are regulars at the GOC in Cabin John and it is consistently delicious. ambiance hits the right balance between being swanky enough for date night, and low-key enough to be a favorite local spot. can't beat the freshness of the seafood for the location and price point.
We sat down and ordered and it said half priced appetizers on the "specials board" but when the bill came they were full price. Same with the drunks even though the bartender told us differently. Food was so, so. Crab cakes were very salty, mussels were fine, crab hush puppies good but greasy. Scallops were good but the risotto was very bland, no seasoning. We would not return to this restaurant based on our experience.
