The Grilled Oyster Company
We had a great waiter who is from Bulgaria. He was extremely engaging with me, my wife and 9 year old son, very experienced, professional and one of the best servers I've experienced in the D.C. area in awhile.
I think the restaurant has a great menu and great choices; including premium items like salmon on the kids menu. I liked it.
The only negative is that the booths are of extremely poor quality. The booth behind us has two 20 somethings who kept moving around and we felt every movement. It was like someone kicking your chair on an airplane.
It'd be worth them investing in something to shore up the padding between booths or to bite the bullet and get something better.
Otherwise, there wasn't a whole lot to complain about. Great service, great menu, nice vibe and a great place I can't wait to return to; but I'll take the single table next time!
I guess a 6:30pm reservation was too early for the staff to care about giving good service. Restaurant was not busy, but looked to be fully staffed as about 7 servers all gathered behind the hostess stand during our entire meal and we had to single them to get our serves attention. Witnessed other tables getting up to find their server to help them. A slow restaurant can lead to bad service. The evening started off with our appetizer order being wrong.....and so the evening went! Even Had to wait for the check. I hope service got better as the evening went on! To top it off, Open Tables alerted us we did not keep our reservation?! Host didn’t check us in. At $150 plus tip.... Too many other options. Won’t be back.
The fried oysters are very good. Beet salad is yummy. I wish they did more oyster dishes above the raw and grilled. it has nice décor for a strip mall restaurant.
Our waitress, Helen, was fantastic!!!! Place was super busy and kitchen was a bit slow but still had great dinner.
Cute restaurant in a popular strip mall that is being revitalized by some great new dining options. The menu was very good, maybe a little heavy on the fried side, but good. Wait service was very nice, prompt, and professional, but the welcome was very clunky and awkward - no hostess stand, no one really looking out for diners, everything was focused on the bar, and we stood around wondering what to do for a while until someone noticed we weren’t going to the bar. The dining area is nicely decorated and our food was pretty good. The only downside was the odor of stale beer that bugged me - like beer soaked irretrievably into the carpet or hardwood floors, and it dimmed the restaurant’s charm. We’ll go back for another try at some point, and if the hostessing and stale beer odor are addressed, this will be on our regular rotation.
Food was amazing. Service was subpar at best. Waited 10 minutes after being seated before anyone even came to the table or brought us water. Drinks took a long time and the server even forgot to put in part of the order. The food was so good however im willing to give them another shot.
Great variety of raw oysters, steamed clams, grilled oysters, and seafood entrees. Good wine list even if somewhat limited. Prices fair and not outrageous.
I would not recommend this restaurant. This is the first time I went to this restaurant. My friend and I split an order of the mussels. We asked our waiter how many came in an order and our waiter said about a handful or a handful and a half. I am not sure what that means. They were super tiny. And the flavor was awful. I think we had about 15 mussels and over a third had not mussels in the shell. The waiter asked us how they were and we told him. He never asked a manager to come over not did a manager come over to ask how our visit was. We both ordered the cioppino which was better but still not fabulous. We had to ask for a napkin to when we finished to clean our hands. The waiter spoke very fast and was not very helpful. There are other seafood restaurants which are much better.
Food was great but we felt like we were being rushed . We ordered coffee but for some reason they run out of coffee cups. We had dessert without coffee and left. Quite embarrassed because my cousins came from Silver Spring to dine with us to celebrate their anniversary.I felt that their trip to Potomac was not worth it. Overall food was good. Probably one of those nights.
It was a totally satisfying dinner- service, food, selection, wine all very good.
Amazing restaurant with friendly and accommodating staff. I have been here on dates and for my birthday. They have an excellent menu and drink list. I recommend the oyster shooter and soft shell crabs!!
Went for s Bday dinner. Very large selection on menu. Clam chowder, hush puppies, oysters were all great. Wide selection of entree’s and really nice atmosphere. Will be back. Recommended.
Food is fab. Service, fab. A little noisy. Happy hour only at the bar.
The food and service was excellent. The menu is very heavy on fish, as you might expect from the name of the restaurant. Limited other choices.
Food and service was excellent! Oysters were tasty! Highly recommend this restaurant as a great neighborhood find!
During restaurant there was no desert for a diabetic like fresh fruit, only very sweet desserts
Rockfish was very tasty!
This is one of my favorite restaurants. I often go for dinner with my husband or for lunch with friends. The crab cakes and the scallop tacos are wonderful. I alway like the oyster sampler.
Great food. Seafood done right with a tasty and imaginative menu.
We did not realize it was Restaurant Week when we went to Grilled Oyster on Saturday night. However the menus for Restaurant Week were appealing. I had deep fried softshell crab on amazing fresh vegetables and avocado sauce. It was beautiful and delicious. Cannot remember when I have had a soft shell with so much meat in it.
This was one of the prettiest plates I can remember. Great job, chef!
Feta cheese in the watermelon salad was tasteless, but the microgreens saved the dish.
Seafood is always delicious! I had the sampler entree with rockfish, salmon and tuna. The salmon and tuna were amazing. The rockfish was fine but not as good as the other two. Friends got crab cakes on caesar salads and they looked full of lump crab. Others got the salmon which they loved. Easy to get a reservation!
Consistent food. Salmon ceviche on oysters were excellent, once you figured out how to eat them (slurp). Soft shell crabs and lobster roll were very good. Wine list has improved.
Chef had a few mishaps. They tried to fold over a steak and tell me it was Butterfield.
This is not typical of this place and the manager could see it too. They didn’t charge me for it. ( although I ate it as it was the second time they tried to fix it and I was hungry).
Totally enjoyed the food and the service. Always a great place to go to
Clam chowder ,best I ever tasted
They were out of a few items, but the service was excellent and the food was very good. They were extremely attentive to our needs and cleared empty dishes/glasses quickly. Sometimes I didn't even see them remove the items.
Great meal as usual. My wife and I each had the 3 seafood plate, tuna, salmon, rockfish. Small tasty portions, just right!
Always have good food and good servers.
Enjoy coming to the Grilled Oyster always
The food is always of great quality. Service is excellent and attentive.
Prices are reasonable.
Everything was great. The tuna tartar has very little tuna and the crab dip had more cream cheese than anything else, but our other plates (oysters, scallops and scallops tacos) were great!
Good food- well presented. Excellent staff A pleasant experience
Nice dinner with my mother!
Wonderful local restaurant with quality food and great service.
Very nice neighborhood dining. A little on the noisy side but tolerable. We have been there previously and will continue to eat there.
Helen was an awesome waitress!
It is close to home, a pleasant atmosphere, casual, good food. White table cloths are a welcome touch and the waitstaff are always friendly and want to make any adjustment/arrangement you wish.
Amazing crab cakes and soft shell crabs.
I love ThenGrille
It was good overall.
I will begin by saying that this restaurant was very nice in checking on food items that would not agree with my food intolerance. When we arrived at the restaurant, only a few tables had been filled, but overall, the restaurant was pretty empty (though subsequently filled up). Service was slow - we ordered appetizers and entrees for three people. Tables that were seated after us were served before us. I feel that the prices are too high for what you get - I could have made it myself at home. The food quality is not as good as other places either. For example, we ordered half a dozen oysters to start that were the same kind that we’ve ordered at another local restaurant that doesn’t specialize in seafood. The other restaurant’s oysters are fresher, larger and shucked better. We were seated in a booth at my request, however the booths were so flimsy that we could feel the child behind us knocking his body back and forth into his booth on purpose for 15 minutes straight.
Definitely not a place we would go back to or recommend to others. I feel badly that we decided to try it on father’s day and had such a bad experience.
