The Grilled Oyster Company
I have enjoyed this restaurant in the past... unfortunately, this time my oysters on the half shell were tiny and not much to them. My Mahi main course was good but not great!
Had a great night dining out here - the service and food make this restaurant one I’d frequent! We had an awesome Restaurant Week Special, 3 course dinner for $35. Thanks to Daví (I think?) for the service & Rick for making us feel most welcome. Recommend!
Remember where you are dining - the outskirts of Potomac which means you will pay downtown prices. While certainly good, dining at The GOC is very expensive and frankly overpriced. Entrees could also be a big larger. We had an excellent server, which has not always been the case.
Great food and service was excellent
Overpriced and underwhelming
The dish I ordered was good, I like lobster so the Maine lobster hash was delicious and tasty. I just didn’t like the calamari it was just ok.
Food was delicious and well-prepared, although there were no clams available that night. Grilled oysters with different preparations were delicious, as was one of the oyster choices of the day. Entrees were original and plentiful.
Perfect seafood as usual!
Great oysters, and food. Waiter was very attentive.
Got order wrong..very slow even though it was half full. Never offered anything except remake order after waiting 45 min.
Not the same place as the last time I was there. Very disappointed.
Dinner at the Grilled Oyster is always outstanding! This has become our local favorite restaurant.
Too pricey for the food served. Good ambiance but low value. No point paying $35 for dinner and still feel like you are hungry when you leave!
Outstanding service! Food taste very good. I would return.
Had weekday lunch at Grilled Oyster and was very disappointed. Both food and service were degraded from previous visits. Even though restaurant was not crowded, long waits ensued between greeting and taking order, and the drink order was not filled by the time food arrived (we had to remind server that a drink order had been placed). In past, this has been one of our favorite seafood experiences, but this time even our favorite dish (fish trio) was not up to expectations. Salmon was slightly overcooked, and rockfish tasted fishy. Portions were slightly larger than in past visits; larger portion did not compensate for taste difference. Menu had changed, and our favorite salad was missing, but that wouldn't have been a big deal if the dish we chose to replace it had been good.
Food has changed. Not my good to place. Still great oysters.
Birthday was great!
Our server, Helen, was just the best! Our group of friends dine out monthly, and my husband and I dine out weekly. This was our first visit to Grilled Oyster, and the food was great, but I will return because I was treated like both an old friend and a valued customer by our server Helen.
Speaking of the food, I had the special, which was the pecan crusted mahi mani. It was fabulous, and one of the reasons Helen was so great in that she described the meal perfectly. I loved it!
Raw oysters and the crab dip plate were good to try.
We had a delightful evening. Great food with varied prices and offerings. We'll definitely be coming back!
Food and service was fantastic.
Use to be one of my favorite restaurants, but not anymore. The food was not the same as my prior experiences. I will not go there anymore!
Must have been an off-night. Food was so-so. Service was good, but server had to go to kitchen to answer questions.
We had a great waiter who is from Bulgaria. He was extremely engaging with me, my wife and 9 year old son, very experienced, professional and one of the best servers I've experienced in the D.C. area in awhile.
I think the restaurant has a great menu and great choices; including premium items like salmon on the kids menu. I liked it.
The only negative is that the booths are of extremely poor quality. The booth behind us has two 20 somethings who kept moving around and we felt every movement. It was like someone kicking your chair on an airplane.
It'd be worth them investing in something to shore up the padding between booths or to bite the bullet and get something better.
Otherwise, there wasn't a whole lot to complain about. Great service, great menu, nice vibe and a great place I can't wait to return to; but I'll take the single table next time!
I guess a 6:30pm reservation was too early for the staff to care about giving good service. Restaurant was not busy, but looked to be fully staffed as about 7 servers all gathered behind the hostess stand during our entire meal and we had to single them to get our serves attention. Witnessed other tables getting up to find their server to help them. A slow restaurant can lead to bad service. The evening started off with our appetizer order being wrong.....and so the evening went! Even Had to wait for the check. I hope service got better as the evening went on! To top it off, Open Tables alerted us we did not keep our reservation?! Host didn’t check us in. At $150 plus tip.... Too many other options. Won’t be back.
The fried oysters are very good. Beet salad is yummy. I wish they did more oyster dishes above the raw and grilled. it has nice décor for a strip mall restaurant.
Our waitress, Helen, was fantastic!!!! Place was super busy and kitchen was a bit slow but still had great dinner.
Cute restaurant in a popular strip mall that is being revitalized by some great new dining options. The menu was very good, maybe a little heavy on the fried side, but good. Wait service was very nice, prompt, and professional, but the welcome was very clunky and awkward - no hostess stand, no one really looking out for diners, everything was focused on the bar, and we stood around wondering what to do for a while until someone noticed we weren’t going to the bar. The dining area is nicely decorated and our food was pretty good. The only downside was the odor of stale beer that bugged me - like beer soaked irretrievably into the carpet or hardwood floors, and it dimmed the restaurant’s charm. We’ll go back for another try at some point, and if the hostessing and stale beer odor are addressed, this will be on our regular rotation.
Food was amazing. Service was subpar at best. Waited 10 minutes after being seated before anyone even came to the table or brought us water. Drinks took a long time and the server even forgot to put in part of the order. The food was so good however im willing to give them another shot.
Great variety of raw oysters, steamed clams, grilled oysters, and seafood entrees. Good wine list even if somewhat limited. Prices fair and not outrageous.
I would not recommend this restaurant. This is the first time I went to this restaurant. My friend and I split an order of the mussels. We asked our waiter how many came in an order and our waiter said about a handful or a handful and a half. I am not sure what that means. They were super tiny. And the flavor was awful. I think we had about 15 mussels and over a third had not mussels in the shell. The waiter asked us how they were and we told him. He never asked a manager to come over not did a manager come over to ask how our visit was. We both ordered the cioppino which was better but still not fabulous. We had to ask for a napkin to when we finished to clean our hands. The waiter spoke very fast and was not very helpful. There are other seafood restaurants which are much better.
Food was great but we felt like we were being rushed . We ordered coffee but for some reason they run out of coffee cups. We had dessert without coffee and left. Quite embarrassed because my cousins came from Silver Spring to dine with us to celebrate their anniversary.I felt that their trip to Potomac was not worth it. Overall food was good. Probably one of those nights.
It was a totally satisfying dinner- service, food, selection, wine all very good.
Amazing restaurant with friendly and accommodating staff. I have been here on dates and for my birthday. They have an excellent menu and drink list. I recommend the oyster shooter and soft shell crabs!!
Went for s Bday dinner. Very large selection on menu. Clam chowder, hush puppies, oysters were all great. Wide selection of entree’s and really nice atmosphere. Will be back. Recommended.
Food is fab. Service, fab. A little noisy. Happy hour only at the bar.
The food and service was excellent. The menu is very heavy on fish, as you might expect from the name of the restaurant. Limited other choices.
Food and service was excellent! Oysters were tasty! Highly recommend this restaurant as a great neighborhood find!
During restaurant there was no desert for a diabetic like fresh fruit, only very sweet desserts
Rockfish was very tasty!
This is one of my favorite restaurants. I often go for dinner with my husband or for lunch with friends. The crab cakes and the scallop tacos are wonderful. I alway like the oyster sampler.
