The Grilled Oyster Company Ratings and Reviews
Food was ok, but very small portions for the price. Tacos had minimal amounts of fish, scallops, etc. Two small tacos with nothing else on the plate for close to $20. Smallish glasses of wine for large glass prices. Our server was very nice, but kitchen was VERY slow ... We waited a VERY LONG time for each course. They served a starter which was called "flatbread" but was simply a few extremely over-spiced cracker crisps that nobody at the table could eat along with a few celery sticks. The overall worst part was the horrible kitchen service. Otherwise, pretty mediocre for the prices.
Our waiter, Enrique, was very pleasant and warm. The kitchen got backed up so our apps took a while to come out but after that, all was well. Food was good, we had scallops and fish special. Would return with kids next time. The only challenge this place has is its strip mall location.
This restaurant is turning out to be a bit of a favorite. It's family friendly - so you can eat there with your kids - but upscale and nice ambiance makes it perfect for date night or a get together with friends. Great beer list, decent adventurous wine list, fresh oysters can't be beat. The Chesapeake bay / sailing theme is also fun and fits in all seasons. The service can be a tad slow but if you're not pressed for time and can chill out on Friday or Saturday evening, its a great place to unwind. Cosy and Romantic enough for a date.
The crabcakes were amazing, my spouse's salmon was cooked perfectly. The service was quick and responsive. We appreciated very much the substitute of cracker & veggies with dip instead of bread - very thoughtful for those of us who are off bread. The only nit was the vergetarian fried rice dish which we were sharing as a side was gloppy and to sweet. Otherwise, great.
We always have a solidly good meal when we eat here. Sometimes we go and just sit at the bar, but I enjoy sitting at a table with friends. I can't remember the name of our server, but she was nothing short of wonderful! Looking forward to dining there again.
Both the specials and the regular menu are fantastic. We each had a tough time deciding which entree to order. Service (Francis) was great, and the owner checked in as well to make sure our meal was great. Cannot say enough about Grilled Oyster Company. We will continue coming here!
Great wait staff and management. The menu is creative and the food was excellent. The dishes we had were on the rich side - lots of butter and cream, but we don't mind that once in while. Great desserts, also quite rich. Mine was a generous portion for one, and my wife's was enough for two. We'll go back.
We traditionally have oysters and clam chowder on New Years Day. We wanted to try a new venue though. This is a surprisingly nice little place tucked into a strip mall in Potomac. Not much to look at from the outside, but well appointed to give that Chesapeake feel on the inside. Friendly and attentive (but not overbearing) service.
The oysters - perfect! The crab dip - very good (a little too much cream, but nice flavor with big chunks of crab). The clam chowder - thick, lots of clams (a couple still in the shell - unique touch) well flavored, and a light touch of warm spice to it (old bay maybe?). Crab cake - no filler (Maryland standard), perfect small fist size. Bloody Mary - nice blend of spice, but could have been a little spicier for my taste (my wife was happy with it though). We tried out the creamy crab soup - very bland (possibly too much sherry too) - the clam chowder was definitely the pick. They were very apologetic with the creamy crab and accommodated by taking it off the bill (nice touch, good business).
Overall very nice. Not crowded, comfortable booth seating (or tables if that is your preference). Very clean. I'd do it again.
Loved the selection of oysters. Our server was very knowledgeable about the different flavors and origins, and was so helpful in assisting us with selections. The oysters were delicious! So fresh and cold, and sauces were great. Mussels in butter and wine was outstanding; fried clams were plump and not overly battered or overcooked, and the homemade tarter sauce was best I've ever had; crab cake had almost no filler--pure back fin crab meat, lightly seasoned and beautifully fried. Everything came out hot and perfectly prepared. They were out of a couple of the beers on the chalkboard, but server had suggestions for others. The food was outstanding, and our out-of-town family loved it so much we went back the next day for lunch. Really quite surprised the place was not packed. And $1 oysters on Tuesdays?! We will be back on a weekly basis!
A very good, neighborhood spot, and we'll go again. The oysters are great, and the wine list is fine. The evening we went, the restaurant was about half full, and it was easy to hear one another. It would be nice if the booth benches were re-done: they're too low for average heights, and particularly for shorter people.
3 stars to recognize the very good well presented food. Unfortunately, the staff was disorganized and frantic. 2 coffees arrived 20 minutes apart and desert finally showed up 20 minutes after the coffee was gone. Maitre'd was apologizing to everyone in the restaurant. Bartender was leaving his station to serve tables. Not a precision machine.
This was our first time here, we came with another couple. We had a reservation and were seated right away. The host was very friendly. We sat at a booth, the bench was low and uncomfortable. Our waitress was friendly, informative, and we had wonderful service. She explained the menu and made great suggestions. We all enjoyed our food. We had appetizer of fried oysters and crab hush puppies, and entrees were Cioppino, Three grilled fish, and lump crab cake. Everyone was happy. We will definitely come again.
This is a neighborhood restaurant that I've been wanting to try for a while so we took a friend there on a Sunday evening. It is mainly a seafood restaurant; the food was excellent and the service attentive but not overly so. We especially appreciated that it was easy to talk, although I imagine the noise levels might be higher at a busier time. We definitely will go back.
The Grilled Oyster was a restaurant that I had frequently passed by when perusing the shops at Cabin John Shopping Center, but had never patronized. I decided on a whim to try it out with a date, who hadn't yet tried culinary seafood. We both found it to be a great spot, and she enjoyed trying Maryland crabs from the menu. I myself found the clam linguini to be nearly perfect, with savory flavors from the pasta and the clams melding into an appetizing dish. There are a large number of premium seafood items, specialty foods, and a selection of desserts. The atmosphere is one of social conviviality, but not excessively loud. Great for groups or dates, I highly recommend this gem to anyone looking for premium seafood in Potomac or the D.C. area in general.
Delicious food, great service and would have given 5 stars except for the following:
Manager and bartender were talking way too loudly to patrons at bar, and we could hear them at the other end of the restaurant. Annoying.
We were seated at a booth in a long string of empty booths. A family of four was then seated in a booth directly behind us, when they could have been seated at any one of several empty booths away from us.
