The Grille at Bear Creek Ratings and Reviews
My third visit and as with the first two, I'm so impressed with the level of quality and service at this resort and restaurant. Our server (Layla) in particular was outstanding, the food was terrific and the ambiance is exactly what you'd hope for at a slope-side upscale restaurant.
Was there for my wife's birthday, which I made the restaurant aware of when I made the reservation. Other than a "Happy Birthday" from the hostess when we arrived, there was no mention of it. Had the baby ribs and my wife had the fried shrimp. Although plentiful, my ribs were dry and not as tender as you would hope they should be. My wife's shrimp looked good, but she said it was not as tasty as it looked. I would say the same for the hot crab dip we both shared. My French onion soup was excellent however. We sat outside on a beautiful Sunday night. An entertaining jazz trio played live music. The outside atmosphere was terrific and very comfortable.
Very well decorated and themed with rustic decor. Service was inattentive (we were never checked on and drinks were never refilled until we got the check at which point we saw them fill water pitcher from the tap) and not very friendly (no smiles, all business), but food was very good. Our plates came out extremely hot leaving us to believe that they were heated in a microwave instead of cooked fresh. Overall, it was a nice meal and we would eat there again for the great, rustic ambience and food selection.
We are usually very happy with our dinners here! We feel like we got an off night, this time. We have always been highly satisfied, but this last visit the 'special' entree that I got lacked flavor (creamy saffron scallops over fettuccine). We always get the creme brûlée and it has been excellent! This time we were disappointed in that ... the creme was too warm and the sugar on top had no crunch.
We were bragging about the place to our friends that we took to dinner . Our friend ordered the same special that I did and she said it was bland. We felt bad that their first experience there was not as excellent as we had told them it would be. Bear Creek is our 'go to' restaurant normally, but this past visit left us a little disappointed, especially for the amount we spent.
I was very disappointed that by 7:20pm they ran out of the scallop special. The last thing I want to hear is that it was so good, there was none left. Reminds me why our friends will not go because of a bad oyster experience. They ran out of oysters right after the special started on more than one occasion. Plan ahead! Hell we had reservations! Really bummed!
My wife ordered filet mignon with lump crab. Undoubtedly the smallest filet I have ever seen and was served without the crabmeat. I did have the Baby back ribs that were a little overdone but that was no major disappointment. Considering all the very good establishments in this area I think a return visit is doubtful.
Our family of four enjoyed our meal at The Grille (Bear Creek Resort). Listening to live jazz outside while dining is a wonderful experience. My only complaint would be the meals being a little pricey, but we will go back again. It's a place where you can stay and leisurely eat without feeling like the wait staff is waiting to turn over the table to the next guest. Kid friendly too.
Good time with live music. Molly was an EXCELLENT server. The Manager took extra steps to make sure we could get a table outside to listen to the live music. I would suggest that in the website or through Open Table, there needs to be a notation that a special request must be made to have an outside table. It was a busy night and we didn't know we had to make that request. That is when the manager made sure we got an outside table. Food was great, music was great, view was great.......Lots of fun with good friends!
The fact that tables are only good for 2 hrs when there's a band playing is just rude. There were many unhappy customers who were booted out of their seats. We all were paying customers & some were senior citizens who never experienced this rudeness anywhere else. We observed other paying customers request seating changes along with others pushed away from their tables Those that are there to listen & enjoy the band playing should be allowed to retain their seats. Those just dining & leaving should be designated to a specific area & everyone should be asked by the hostess if they are there to dine only or are there for the band. That would solve the problem. No other restaurant treats their customers the way Bear Creek does. It was appalling. If this practice of double booking tables , along with the slow service continues, we along with many others won't be back. And you can be sure the news will travel fast.
The dining experience at The Grill at Bear Creek was great and we really enjoyed the fact that they had Lobster Week Specials. We will definitely return when they do it again. Our experience with Open Table, however, was less than admirable. We had difficulty accessing the info on the sight, available reservation times were not the same within a few minutes of checking back after having timed out, and after we got home from the restaurant we received e-mails reprimanding us for not showing up for our reservation when we were actually there 15 minutes ahead of our reservation time. The e-mail made us feel like we were going to be black-balled from the restaurant, when the problem was obviously on your end! Hope you will take this info from a customer and try to improve things.
We get there no less than once a year and most years more. Wife won't miss Lobster Week. It doesn't mean you get a great deal on lobster, it means they have a lot of lobster dishes on the menu at regular lobster prices. That said the food is excellent. Nice portions, prepaded beautifully and paced perfectly. Delicious meal.
