A great meal with great service. Started with a couple excellent seasonal cocktails (the bourbon/pumpkin one and the vodka/apple one), followed by the grilled octopus and the Tuscan Kale soup. The octopus was fantastic - charred just the right amount, and exactly as grilled octopus should be (but rarely is). The soup was good, too, but a bit over salted. Entrees (salmon and the lobster tagliatelle) were both delicious and beautifully presented. Potion sizes perfect. Every single person on the server staff was fantastic. Attentive, thoughtful and yet not at all intrusive. I’m looking forward to going back (and sadly probably won’t try a new appetizer as I’m already thinking of the delicious grilled octopus...)!
The service was very good. But the food was okay for the price. We ordered a bottle of white wine. They did not have it in stock. They offered another white wine but it was not chilled. It was expensive and we expected more. Perhaps, we did not order correctly!
Disappointing, to the extreme. We are travelers and familiar with Rosewood-London.
With all the excellent dining options in Georgetown, we chose the Rosewood's Grill Room purposely, wrongly assuming it would offer good food, good service in elegant surrounds.
The food was tasteless, boring and the service absent. We will not return, and will not now consider recommending this otherwise lovely hotel for an overnight.
One of the worst expensive dining experiences ever. We were the only guests at 6:30 p.m. I ordered a salad without nuts. It came 35 minutes later with nuts (the only order in the kitchen . . ). Main courses arrived after another long wait. They were good (chicken and steak) but served on very cold plates each with a bed of very cold mashed potatoes, which quickly cooled the main courses. The waiter needed to be summoned, from wherever he was hiding, for any need - drinks or water refill, salt and pepper, to clear, for desert, for the check, etc. when we left there were still only three other tables occupied; apparently word has gotten around. Will never return though we live nearby.
This was a very special occasion and I called the restaurant in advance to let them know. However, there was no acknowledgement of the occasion during the meal-- not even a Happy Birthday!
Wait staff was slow and inattentive. I was especially irked when, as the dinner plates were being removed, I asked if the wine we ordered was finished. Our wine bottle had been whisked away after the first pour. Turns out we had half a bottle left which was never poured! Oops!
Never going back!
We had been before to The Grill Room and had been very satisfied clients on all levels, food, service, ambiance
This time nothing was acceptable....table was not ready although it was empty with dirty glasses from previous clients. It took us 10-15 min to be seated. Another 10 to be attended to for water and cocktails. Cocktails were great but took forever. So long that we decided not to order a bottle of wine. At this level of restaurant and prices the attention we got was not acceptable. The oysters and halibut were good, thank goodness.
Very sad to experience this. Looked forward to visiting as we frequent when we visit our college student. Next time not on our list. Very sorry because we loved The Grill Room before
Being able to sit outside in Washington DC in August is a treat in itself, however, dining at the Grill Room on the Georgetown Canal on a beautiful summer day was exquisite. The pastrami and gruyere was excellent. Service just right for a business meal. The Grill Room is inside Rosewood, an elegant hotel off M street in Georgetown, but has wonderful outside dining.
Great atmosphere and good service, but the food was sub-par. My wife had the Lobster Tagliatelle, that claimed to come with a Port & Cognac lobster cream. The pasta was cold, starchy and had no sauce and there was minimal lobster. The 'charred' vegetables were beyond charred and while the watermelon salad was visually appealing, that's where it stopped. We were so disappointed, as the ambience and setting was perfect and the server was very pleasant. We will not return to the Grill Room, but may return to the Rye Bar-Great service and drinks.
I chose the Grill Room for a birthday dinner for my granddaughter. I mentioned this when I made the reservations and from the moment we came in from the moment we left all the wait staff wished her a happy birthday. The food was excellent, the ambience perfect, and the service above reproach! It was a perfect evening for a gran,other and her 20 year old granddaughter!
What a wonderful place. I found this restaurant on Open Table and was overwhelmed with the experience. The service and ambience were rich and pampering and the food was exquisite. I would gladly return to the Grill Room for any special meal in the future. Thank you for such a wonderful evening.
The Grill Room was a restaurant my wife and I liked very much, but it has changed for the worse. Before I would have said it was very good; now it is very mediocre. On a recent night we went for dinner and the food was so-so and the service was spotty; in the past, we always found the food and service very good to excellent. For dinner, we had the tuna tartar appetizer (good I thought, but more like poke than tartar); a halibut dish and a roasted chicken dish (both were OK at best); and yuzu cake for dessert (small, dry, bland, piece of cake with a little scoop of nondescript ice cream and a couple of berries: very disappointing). The wine person was clearly in the dark about the wine and offered up a guess or two instead of any expertise. Service at the Grill Room was one of its fine points in the past, but now, even with some of the same servers that we had in previous visits, the service was perfunctory at best (although they did note our disappointment with the dessert and did not charge us for it). Maybe this last thought sums up our experience: When making the reservation, my wife was asked if it was a special occasion and she told them it was our anniversary. However, nothing to note this occasion was done at the restaurant, not even simply saying to us "Happy anniversary." This detail, perhaps, speaks to a lack of interest in the clientele. Frankly, it seemed weird in retrospect. A couple days later we learned that the previous chef left the restaurant last October. The difference that this change has made to the Grill Room is significant, and in our experience, entirely negative. In spite of this experience, I am fond of this restaurant because of the great evenings I have enjoyed there in the past, and I hope they can get back to their former levels of ambiance and superior food and service.
Highlight for me is the exceptional wine list, put together by the master Sommelier Keith Goldston. Loaded with Intriguing choices from many countries, at realistic prices. The room itself is quite comfortable, with the tables widely separated to allow for conversation without having to shout -- hard to find that these days. Lobster and shrimp appetizer was generously portioned for the price, as were entrees of crispy duck and halibut over risotto. Duck was cooked to rosy perfection. My only quibble is that the halibut/risotto arrived barely warm, as though it had sat on the server shelf a bit too long, which it probably had. Overall, a great place for an upscale dinner with fine wine. Recommended.
