My friends and I try to frequent lunch at the Windsor Court in the Grill Room as often as our schedules permit. We have been coming here for many years. The Polo Lounge is a great place to have cocktails also. Our favorite is the pianist from 6 to 8. Of course, Robin Barnes is always outstanding for entertainment 8 to 12. It is a true pleasure to go there. Lunch is very good and you have three choices of sides including the main entree. The price is based on their opening of $19.84 and includes free parking. Gin or vodka martinis are priced at $2. You cannot top the service anywhere in New Orleans and that goes for the entire staff there including the valets. Everyone we introduce to the Windsor, always wants to go again. And again! Debra Sonier
Everything was terrific! It was a great place to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary!
Service was slow and waiter had difficulty understanding our order. Drinks were not delivered until re ordered two or three times. Support staff seemed untrained. Two out of seven of the entrees were I incorrect. Management did comp those two orders. Food was not the caliber I remembered on my last visit. Disappointed in overall dining experience.
Superb service. Very attentive to special requests.
We were a bit disappointed in our dining experience at The Grill Room. The ambiance was very nice, with a live piano player, but the service was not exceptional. The single food runner was not able to serve the whole table without returning to the kitchen, making the delivery of each course a drawn out affair. Most of the food was quite good. The paparddelle was marvelous, with a lovely silken texture, and the fried oysters had a delightful crunch. However, the scallops were overly salty, the decaf coffee pathetically weak (This is N.O., for heaven's sake, not Topeka!) and the Matcha Chocolate dessert had too much contrast in textures, with the matcha layer positively rubbery. The table knife provided for the diner with the rack of lamb was not up to the task so a sharp one had to be requested. These are the sort of sloppy mistakes you might expect in a more ordinary restaurant. The 22% automatic gratuity for our large party was excessive. 18% is more customary and would have been more in line with the level of service. At this price point I expect the highest quality of service and food.
Waited 30 minutes for table although we had reservation. Waitress had limited English comprehension or was totally indifferent. Food was okay but not at the prices. Had not been there in several years as was quite disappointed in everything but the decor. Would not recommend to others
We had lunch on Christmas Eve . The quiet, elegant ambiance was perfect. The drinks were lovely, too.
So so service. Good mediocre.
It should be made clear on the website that there is no fine dining at lunch. It has a limited menu of casual food. You select 4 things on the table d’hote and they all come at once on the same plate.
They serve an excellent breakfast and the staff was wonderful!
Arrived timely for a Friday evening reservation. Took about four minutes for hostess to arrive, though she was very kind and engaging. Things were pretty awkward once we were seated:
-Frazzled waiter; at one point set the neighbor's food down on our table
-Took about 10 minutes before anyone checked in on us
-Had to request bread, water
-Food was mediocre given the high standards of NOLA (crab cake wasn't flavorful; lamb was virtually raw)
-They kindly compensated us for the sparkling water we ordered given all the delays in service
In short: Don't be fooled by the apparent critical acclaim; that praise is outdated. There are dozens and dozens of better options for dinner in New Orleans, especially in this price range.
Staff so cordial and friendly - even with a late lunch reservation (1:45). Perfect table by the windows. Service and cuisine superior - treated us like royalty even with the $19.84 lunch and 2 buck Martinis. The crab cakes may be the best anywhere! The sides creative and tasty beyond belief. And a serenade for my wife afterwards.
As locals we sometimes forget the best in our own backyard. An unforgettable Christmas holiday experience.
Just a beautiful place to experience fine dining and
The Grill Room never disappoints. From the $2 martinis and complimentary amuse-bouche to the sorbet at the finish, everything is delicious. The plate lunch offers exceptional value, the waitstaff is friendly and knowledgeable, and the ambience is of course wonderful. Definitely recommend!
We had the 4 item plate lunch, and everything was very delicious. I've gone quite a few times, but this time was the very best!
Exceptional service and delicious food. Was a memorable experience and will be back soon.
As always a pleasure to spend time in the beautifully decorated Windsor Court Hotel. The Grill Room is a top class restaurant and fully lives up to its reputation
We enjoyed Sunday Jazz Brunch. Both the chicken and waffles and Eggs Atchafalaya were outstanding. The seafood omelet was overcooked. The delicate salad dressing was perfect.
If not for the service, I would recommend the Grill Room - the Reveillon menu was very tasty and a great value at $45. The wine list is extensive and the wine captain knowledgeable and affable. The problem was that the staff was MIA all night, and the restaurant did not appear to be all that busy (there were several open tables scattered throughout the place). We ended up having to get up from the table to pour our own wine, and to repeatedly flag down a waiter to refill our water glasses. At the end of the evening when desserts were to come out, a waiter came to announce, "instead of the apple gallette, you are getting bread pudding!" as if changing our order without asking or apologizing for running out of the prix fixe menu option was something we should have been excited about. As locals, it was fun to revisit a former favorite old haunt, but I will not go back given the abundance of better dining options.
Short-handed but definitely trying. We had better service than the neighboring table. We were so worried about THEIR experience than we kept sending our wait staff to their table to check on them.
Overall, it was good, though it was a bit of a rocky start. We arrived for our reservation, at which point the host said our table still was not ready. No problem there. It took them an additional 5-10 minutes to get it set, then we were brought to our table. It was in a more quiet area, as I had requested, and the ambiance was nice. From then, however, it was an additional 5 minutes before our server even greeted us, just to tell us "I swear, I'm coming", then disappear again for another five minutes. Individually, those are fairly small things, but when added up, the restaurant was close to twenty minutes late in having our table (for which we made advanced reservations) ready, and it then took almost ten minutes more just to get my wife and me two glasses of water, let alone anything else to drink. Once we did get our server to bring us our other drinks (one wine, one whiskey), he was about to simply walk away again, so I got his attention and told him we were ready to order. We were ordering from the Reveillon menu - a great way to get a delicious, multi-course meal for an incredible deal around Christmas time - so that part was quick and easy. Once we finally did that, everything seemed to start going more smoothly, with the food runners being very polite and helpful. Courses 1 and 2 were FANTASTIC, with a great depth and balance of flavors. Our main courses, however, were rather underwhelming - properly cooked, but no real flavors present. We each had one of the two options offered for course 3, and they both fell very flat. Thankfully, course 4 was AMAZING and helped to end things on a higher note. Our server, while rather peculiar, became a bit more charming by the end, and he seemed very sincere when congratulating us on our 5th wedding anniversary that night. Overall, I'd give the experience a 7-7.5/10.
Thoroughly enjoyed our lunch on Thiusday, December 13th.
I made the mistake of booking the Grill room. I thought I was booking tea in the salon. After getting over the disappointment of not doing our annual tea that we have done for the past 20 years, I was pleasantly surprised with the Grill Room. Our waitress Deitra went out of her way to get us the Christmas tea that we had waited for all year long!! I’m not saying I would skip our annual tea next year but wouldn’t mind coming back to visit for brunch one day.
As elegant or casual as you want, a favorite spot for lunch with martinis and views of the murals or the knight in the courtyard. Creative takes on traditional favorites. Menu changes now and then, with excellent service.
The food was delicious! Wonderful choices on the menu. The service from the wait staff was not up to par. The lead waitress was very slow with service and not very friendly. The assistant waiter was very friendly and helpful when he did come to the table. Disappointing for a restaurant of this caliber to not have impeccable service.
I selected this spot for a lunch with friends. The atmosphere and food were par excellence! The staff serviced all our needs and requests. I will certainly be back to this wonderful spot for any meal.
Great food. Best service. Can hear the piano player in the bar as background.
Great Food and wonderful service.
Unfortunately the food at Windsor doesn’t always measure up to other upscale Nola restaurants. I’m a local.. other restaurants are just a little better food wise. The hotel is beautiful though.
the $19.84 plate lunch was incredible. Will make it a weekly lunch spot.
The Grill Room continues to impress me after many trips in the last few years. The menu is fresh with ideas while still portraying local specialties and ingredients, and service is personable and professional. Antonia and Hellen always make the experience memorable and will keep me coming back.
Had a wonderful experience for my boyfriend birthday!
Different for other brunch options in New Orleans, it was great to have excellent brunch in a quiet environment with excellent food options and live jazz music.
Excellent experience! I would recommend The Grill Room to anyone who is looking for a memorable meal in New Orleans! We will definitely be back!
Excellent service. Excellent food. Romantic evening!!
The hotel is beautiful. The service was fantastic and the ambiance is romantic. The adjoining lounge had live jazz and the cocktails are perfect.
Everything and everyone were awesome!! Wonderful ambiance and delicious food...not to mention the New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc...my new favorite!
We had brunch at the Grill Room today and it was extraordinary! I ordered the Eggs Atchafalaya and my husband ordered the foie gras. Both dishes were beyond our expectations! How can a good meal be even better? That’s the magic of the Windsor Court and the Big Easy!
Great for a nice time out. Dress up a little. Good for conversation. Music was great, easy going.
