The Grill Room at the Windsor Court Hotel Ratings and Reviews
I made the reservation to celebrate the birthday of a friend. This was for lunch with the meat plus 3 menu at 19.84 and martinis at $2.00 each.
When we arrived and sat down we noticed the menu was for a brunch and upon asking the waiter we were informed that this was the first day that the program had changed from lunch to brunch.
I am disappointed in not being informed of this change in one or more phone calls that were received from the Grill room confirming the reservation.
We went for the prix fixe lunch and it was absolutely amazing. Just the right amount of food; everything was delicious! Windsor martinis are $2 at lunch and are wonderful. Truly a great deal and delightful atmosphere. If I ever travel to New Orleans again this will be a definite stop!
Very expensive and for what we all felt was subpar food for the price in a city with many better eating options. We are always wishful for a better experience from the Grill Room (have given them many opportunities to shine) but frequently found lackluster instead.
I try to visit the Windsor Court whenever I am in NOLA and have always been pleased with the quality of the food and service. From sipping crafted cocktails to jazz in the Polo Lounge on Friday or Saturday night to afternoon tea in the Salon to late breakfast/brunch on Mardi Gras day, they have been consistently excellent.
Perhaps my favorite New Orleans restaurant years ago. On recent visit could not have been more disappointed. Still a beautiful space. Excellent service, but, but server inaccurate in describing the food. "Plate Lunch" an interesting idea for an upscale property. However the food (mine and companions) was mediocre at best. Some was abysmal. No exaggeration- the lettuce in the Windsor Court Salad was BROWN and waterlogged. So sad. Grateful I did not go for dinner.
We were both on a diet and went for the amazing $20 plate special- one entree and three sides. The portions are very small so don't bring too big an appetite. The Shrimp Scampi is nice and uncomplicated. The Port taco is interesting and good. The stars of the show were the veggies: cauliflower with chili was great, the Caprese Salad cooled down the chili. The roasted Brussel sprouts were fantastic. Get a seat overlooking the courtyard. Get a reservation and dress appropriately for better service and seating.
Best lunch in NOLA! Great lunch. Choose an entree and 3 sides with dessert for $19! Unreal. Crab cake is very good. I added the Windsor Court salad, Windsor’s version of the Cobb, along with crawfish pasta and Brussel Sprouts! A trio of sorbet to finish and it doesn’t get any better!
Lovely spot for a nice hotel breakfast. We had a leisurely breakfast on Christmas Eve morning with delightful service all the way around. The menu at Windsor Court is simple and classic with great solid options for every taste, and they also accommodate "off menu" requests. My spouse had the boudin eggs benedict which he thought was delicious and I requested a seafood omelet with a side of their cherry tomatoes in vinaigrette. The browned potato wedges that came with my spouse's benedict were also delicious. Friends who joined us also added some of the pastries to their entrees and the scones and muffins were heavenly. My one complaint is that for a place that serves a world famous afternoon tea in the South, that their iced tea tasted tinny or like the "fake" gold peak tea which is a travesty. My other suggestion is that they offer a mini pastry or small loaf of french bread of some kind for the table while waiting for entrees to arrive. Overall, we are looking forward to booking the Grill Room for another pre-game breakfast on gameday or other occasion.
The only drawback to our evening, which was carefully planned to take advantage of the Reveillon dinner special as my husband and I do every year at a different restaurant, was that we were seated in a hallway instead of in the main dining room. I'd requested a window table and perhaps there were none available in the main room, but we felt like afterthoughts in the narrow area where we were placed. The food was amazing and it was a quiet spot that afforded us good conversation, but we did not get to take advantage of the vibe of the restaurant that we had specifically chosen for the evening by being in the main part of it.
Went to grill Room Friday for a special occasion. Noticed that the restaurant was much smaller than I remembered and now very full. The ambiance and service staff were beyond reproach. We decided to go with the Reviellion menu as the reular menu was uninspiring and seemed more appropriate to a bar menu. My wife and I tried to sample as many different items as possible. What we were served, to put it kindly, was tasteless and mediocre at best. Worst was dessert. What was billed as a chocolate crepe was more like two dried out tortillas with a thin layer of cream cheese in between.
Having experienced The Grill Room in it’s heyday, it is truly sad to see it deteriorate into this forgettable restaurant. Totally disappointing.
We absolutely love going to the Grill Room. Miss Helen always greets us with a cheery smile and knows who I am before I give my name. She remembers that I like to sit in Mr Edgar's section and accommodates me if she can. Mr Edgar always gives 5 star service and remembers my drink order. The food is delicious, especially those biscuits that come in the bread basket! This is a favorite that we will continue to come back to.
One would think at $100 per person Prix Fix, you get Iced Tea &/or Coffee (If you asked for it),
but NO! $5 extra for each.
Then they add 22% "Gratuity" to the bill (After the tax). Why do you pay gratuity on tax? Why are you FORCED to pay 22% anyway?
$465 for 3 people for food that would be $150 if ordered from the regular menu????
Food was OK. One would expect the food to be OK for the price, anyway, so they are not doing anybody any favor by providing good food. The desert was ordinary, nothing exotic.
WAY TOO OVER-PRICED.
Adding insult to injury: charging separately for Iced tea and coffee.
Absolutely unacceptable: Adding 22% tip for a party of 3.
Why not just change the per person price to $125 and include the damned non-alcoholic drinks and the tip???? Because then it would be SO OBVIOUS how outrageous they are.
That is what they are charging you anyway.
22% tip on the TAX? Who are we kidding?
Grill room at the Windsor Court is fabulous experience. I prefer the older menu though verses the selection now. I still highly recommend. The food is very good and th service and ambience is the best, first class. Angela and Bill would just incredible wonderful. Wine selection was awesome. Angela made the evening though with her incredible wisdom and service. Just a beautiful hotel and awesome restaurant experience. The art, beauty, history, and comfort are truly special. Thanks very much!
This gem of a hotel restaurant is elegant but welcoming. Lovely staff and great New Orleans choices, especially the Plate lunch for about $20 with shrimp or crab or fish and three other choices, including a luscious gumbo or smooth soup, salads, asparagus, cauliflower (not like your mother used to make you eat, but with a little kick of chili), roasted veg, and many more. Great views from the glassed-in terrace. $2.00 martinis. All-in- all a super experience.
