The Grill on the Alley - Westlake Village Ratings and Reviews
This is by far one of my top places to eat & enjoy a hand crafted cocktail (Ruby Red Martini) in Westlake Village. I have come for lunch, happy hour and special occasions, such as my last visit. My family & I were extremely pleased with our fine dining experience. Not only was the service top notch but the food far exceeded my expectations in quality and portion size. The manager on duty even stopped by our table to ask if we needed anything. Our server was very attentive and brought us dessert (on the house) for our celebration. The fish (John Dory & Mahi Mahi) my husband & I ordered was cooked to perfection and I commented that it was better than Lure! My kids had Kobe beef meatloaf & Kobe burger which was equally delicious. Thanks to the Grill for a perfect dinner!
I had a delightful time dining with my two parents who are in their mid to late nineties. We sat outside to enjoy our lunch as the day could not have been more beautiful.
The bartender crafted the most delicious vodka martinis! We toasted to my parents’ long lives and 73 years of marriage. Dani, fortunately, also acted as our server. She was so attentive and accommodating; it was as if we were her only concern!
Thank you for such a wonderful and memorable al fresco lunch ~
Ceasar salad had only lettuce and a slice of cheese. Very plane and dressing was like thick jelly. Manager was called but said nothing he could do. Waited a long time for the food, which was also awful.
With such high prices and great competition locally your better off looking elsewhere. Try Tuscany. Its amazing
I like this place that always offers quality and good service.
I had the Dover sole and yes, although it came from the Amalfi Coast, it was the real thing and was prepared with the bone in at my request (but the head was missing!).
decent cocktails and dessert, quiet seating.
We were cordially met by the hostess and brought to the table. The waitress was pleasant and we were not rushed considering it was Eastern Sunday brunch. The food was not good. My wife and I had lobster Benedict. They both were undercooked. You could barely find the lobster. There was more bread than egg or lobster. I expected a much better brunch food experience.
Excellent food and service, bit of a wait for the table even with a reservation but still OK since the outside patio was open. Server Norbert was attentive, knowledgeable and efficient, did everything right. Bar area is pretty noisy, but booths are acceptable.
This seemed like an off night. Salads came out chopped after we were asked if we wanted them chopped and we said “NO”. My chicken pot pie had 2 pieces of chicken. It would be more aptly named a “Carrot/Mushroom pot pie”. My wife’s pot pie was mostly peas and liquid. Not a great experience, especially for over $150.
Our waiter was very nice and explained the menu quite well. We asked him to choose our wines by the glass and every one paired nicely with the steaks we ordered. Mashed potatoes were served lukewarm but they fired them up nice and hot. Steaks cooked perfectly.
Excellent food, service, drinks. One thing that has deteriorated over the years is the dress of the clientelle. Used to be formal or business casual, now it is jeans, t-shirts, baseball caps. Am I being a snob? Probably. But there was a satsifaction in seeing people who were participating in a social event or a date with someone who deserved a well-groomed style. Now, it is just people who are there to eat excellent food and imbibe well prepared drinks.
I have dined at the Grill several times. However, the last evening we dined there, the restaurant had closed off half of the seating area so by the time we had gotten settled in, the place was noisy as hell. We found ourselves yelling at each other to carry on our conversation.
The entrees were a bit underwhelming to say the least. I had the Dover Sole and it was heavy, greasy and the spinach was way to oily and almost tasted burnt.
My date had the scallops and she normally loves the dish, but this time she barely ate half the plate and took the rest home. It was her first time to the restaurant and I was a bit embarrassed by the results.
We will be back because of the ambiance and location, but will think twice before ordering and maybe ask more questions...What a shame because it is a great location and has great ambiance....
We have dined at The Grill many times and were a little surprised by our overall experience this time. We arrived early and had drinks and appetizers in the bar before dinner. Our friends joined us and also had drinks and appetizers. Okay, this adds up to about $70. Moving on to our table, our waitress seemed distressed that only two people ordered drinks and that three out of four of us ordered an appetizer for our main dish. She actually said to me "You want that for your main dish?" Once she served all of us, we didn't see her again until we wanted to pay the bill. I know this is probably a reflection of the server, because we have had awesome service in the past, but this kind of put a damper on the evening. It still was $150 for drinks and food when we finished, so we weren't exactly light-weights, but the attitude made us feel like paupers. Maybe it's just the Westlake Village ideal. We will try again....
Potatoes cold, steak seared & rare when asked for med well- and then they almost argued with me in disagreement, and waiter seemed put out in dealing with a woman. Awful experience. I’ve been here before and it has been ok, so i wonder if there is new management. I do not know if i will return, or if i do return, it will be awhile and only after i have exhausted all other restaurants in the area.
I was at this restaurant a month ago and the food was poor but thought I would give it a second chance. Even worse this time with extremely slow, inattentive service ( even forgot to bring us the dessert we ordered) plus overly priced food. I will not go back. I was embarrassed to bring my business associates there. In the lobster salad I had the lobster was hard chunks with no flavor.
A nice place to enjoy well prepared meals using high quality ingredients presented with great service. The wine list is a bit over the top with numerous bottles going for over $1000 but you can find perfectly enjoyable wines for under $100 but you need to look for them. The noise level can be high if there are large groups. All in all, it's a great place to eat.
Our server, NIcole, did a great job. She was friendly and attentive. The salmon was cooked to perfection and the side dishes were as well. The only negative thing I have to say is that when we arrived, the hostess tried to seat us at a small table against a wall with 2 chairs side-by-side when there were several empty booths available. We complained and they immediately provided us with a booth.
Took 15-20 minutes to order our food. The appetizer we ordered was completely missed and brought when we were done almost with our dinner. Needed to send the steak back since it wasn't cooked. Looked like they just put it back on the grill and cooked it too much now. Not our best experience at a restaurant for the price they charge. They tried to make up for it by taking our drinks off the bill and sending us home with a dessert.
If u r thinking of eating there on a Saturday night—don’t! Calamari was over cooked; filet ordered rare was medium & when server was told, she just flicked her head; forgot creamed spinach & server’s response was “I’m bad”. Calamari was served & we asked to share it but when we asked for individual plates—it took 3 different people to make that happen. Service was slow, food not as ordered & we were only given one free glass wine. Fortunately I ordered a salad but the amount of dressing was minimal—server never asked if my salad was ok. Another server came by to clear bread & butter plates—but she did it while we were eating! She reached over my salad to grab the plate without ever saying a word or asking if she could invade our dinner meal & our personal space. Noise level was so loud that you could barely have a conversation.
This used to be an excellent choice. This time the food was poor. The chicken in the cobb salad was hard, overdone little squares which I didn't eat and the burger one of my guests ordered had to go back twice ( it was raw) and she ended up just having a bowl of soup. The waitress handled it well, but you could tell she was embarrassed.
The food was all around sub par. We had to return the sushi as the fish was old. The steak I received was undercooked and chewy. The fries had no crispy to them and little flavor. The chicken was not tender, but almost had a strange crunch to it ( hard to explain). Bread on the French dip was disappointing ..... the sourdough at the beginning was good, but the prepared food needs either better ingredients or better preparation
After many years of being faithful customers we were so disappointed this night. e have never is 30 years been disappointed at the Grill on the Alley Beverly HIlls, but this night in Westlake was a mis-mash of inattentive service and vegetables not prepared up to par.
Sorry to say it will take a while before we are tempted try this again.
