The Grill on the Alley - Westlake Village Ratings and Reviews
Our server, NIcole, did a great job. She was friendly and attentive. The salmon was cooked to perfection and the side dishes were as well. The only negative thing I have to say is that when we arrived, the hostess tried to seat us at a small table against a wall with 2 chairs side-by-side when there were several empty booths available. We complained and they immediately provided us with a booth.
Took 15-20 minutes to order our food. The appetizer we ordered was completely missed and brought when we were done almost with our dinner. Needed to send the steak back since it wasn't cooked. Looked like they just put it back on the grill and cooked it too much now. Not our best experience at a restaurant for the price they charge. They tried to make up for it by taking our drinks off the bill and sending us home with a dessert.
If u r thinking of eating there on a Saturday night—don’t! Calamari was over cooked; filet ordered rare was medium & when server was told, she just flicked her head; forgot creamed spinach & server’s response was “I’m bad”. Calamari was served & we asked to share it but when we asked for individual plates—it took 3 different people to make that happen. Service was slow, food not as ordered & we were only given one free glass wine. Fortunately I ordered a salad but the amount of dressing was minimal—server never asked if my salad was ok. Another server came by to clear bread & butter plates—but she did it while we were eating! She reached over my salad to grab the plate without ever saying a word or asking if she could invade our dinner meal & our personal space. Noise level was so loud that you could barely have a conversation.
This used to be an excellent choice. This time the food was poor. The chicken in the cobb salad was hard, overdone little squares which I didn't eat and the burger one of my guests ordered had to go back twice ( it was raw) and she ended up just having a bowl of soup. The waitress handled it well, but you could tell she was embarrassed.
The food was all around sub par. We had to return the sushi as the fish was old. The steak I received was undercooked and chewy. The fries had no crispy to them and little flavor. The chicken was not tender, but almost had a strange crunch to it ( hard to explain). Bread on the French dip was disappointing ..... the sourdough at the beginning was good, but the prepared food needs either better ingredients or better preparation
After many years of being faithful customers we were so disappointed this night. e have never is 30 years been disappointed at the Grill on the Alley Beverly HIlls, but this night in Westlake was a mis-mash of inattentive service and vegetables not prepared up to par.
Sorry to say it will take a while before we are tempted try this again.
Enjoyed dining at the Grill,as usual. The dine LA Menu was excellent and as always, they serve best pork chop in town! The John Dory is a favorite as well.
Service is consistently attentive. We truly appreciate the continued high standard maintained. If something is not quite right, they will fix it graciously. We find so many restaurants are slipping, but the Grill on the Alley in Westlake will not disappoint.
We have been long term diners at the Grill going back to the early days in Beverly Hills. When they opened in Westlake we were very pleased and for a period of time (Jay was the Manager) we went often. Sometime over the last year or two the Grill changed, atmosphere not as cozy, more contemporary music, tablecloths gone, service seemed not as professional, menu changes that eliminated many of our favorites, no more year round gazpacho soup, a big loss. Bottomline, just not the same place. Additionaly they added a new ‘rewards’ program that is not only confusing but as regular customers we no longer get free ‘corkage ‘ which was a big plus. As a result of all the changes we rarely go to the Grill anymore and no choose to dine at Mastros.
VERY SIMILAR TO EATING AT RUTH CHRIS - DELICIOUS STEAKS, SIDES, ETC. EVERYTHING EXTRA. WE TOOK OUR OWN WINES - CORKAGE FEE REASONABLE -$20.00/PER BOTTLES. VERY FRIENDLY AND EFFICIENT SERVERS. IT IS A "BUSY PLACE" THOUGH BUT LOTS OF PARKING BECAUSE IT'S IN A MALL.
My dear friend and I met there for lunch and we both loved it. The decor and the ambiance was inviting but, having said that, the noise level is quite high. I gave the ambiance a "good rating" simply because of the noise. I don't know if there is anything to be done about that but I did ask to be seated toward the rear of the restaurant and that helped some. As for the lighting, the overhead spotlights are a bit bright as well. We asked after the meal if they can be dimmed a bit and our waitress said they could. Wished we would have thought to ask sooner. The lights were shining down on our heads like we were being interrogated! Anyway, our overall experience was great and we will return often. The food was well prepared and the presentation was lovely. Our server was attentive and friendly.
The reservation was for our anniversary which was mentioned to the host, but the restaurant did not acknowledge it with the usual candle and a dessert . So I bought a slice of cheese cake! Slightly disappointing. Service was adequate.
We had stone crabs and scallops which were pretty good. Slightly overpriced . Not very busy. Hmmm.
We went here for a birthday celebration and had a great time. The food was excellent and service was great. My friend loved it and had nothing but good things to say about it. Having said that, the noise level in the front dining area was so loud we had to change our table. It is less noisy in the back of the restaurant. Maybe it was a holiday type of occasion but just be aware the tables and booths are very close together. We will definitely return.
We were not able to get a cooked piece of meat. Medium ++ should be more than 1/8 inch of searing on a 1.5 inch thick piece of lamb . My wife sent the filet back for additional cooking time and the steak was replaced but they still could not get it cooked. The rest of the meal was great and the service was excellent but we will not be back.
Typically we love eating at the Grill. The service seemed far off their standards. We had to wait a long time for our initial cocktails. Probably sat at our table for almost 15 minutes after placing our order. They seated us in a corner table which would normally be nice but there was a large party in the private room and the noise level, constant crowd of servers hovering by the door, dropping of plates and large trays ... did not make for a pleasant evening. Honestly I was very disappointed.
