Noise level through the roof!
Food is presented like Hospital food on a plate!
Servers kept forgetting things again and again: forgot to bring napkins, brought Luke warm coffee, forgot to bring the dessert menu , generated bill before we even looked and or ordered dessert!
Food is over priced, boring in presentation but well cooked and flavorful!
I would not go back on my own dime!
There are no exciting Resteurant’s in San Jose CA ...it seems!

Very disappointing. It was rated number 1 on Trip Advisor for steakhouses in San Jose and I thought that was a good reference for my steak-loving husband’s Birthday.
He started with a wedge salad which arrived with a lot of hard, inedible core. My spinach salad was okay but all of the “goodies” were buried under the spinach. I didn’t find them until I was halfway finished. My husband’s ribeye looked more like a NY steak and was fatty and flavorless. My short ribs arrived lukewarm. Dessert options were uninteresting and hubby wasn’t even offered a dessert for his birthday. Our tab, including a $150 bottle of wine and a $60 tip (not really much extraordinary effort by either person on our serving team) exceeded $350. I cringe thinking about how much we spent for a mediocre, at best, dining experience.
I’m a good cook and have high expectations when dining out. The Grill did not meet them.

Enjoyed the Filet Mignon but drink service was a little slow so would have enjoyed one more glass of wine.

Lobster was a bit chewy, food came out way before we finished our appetizer, and there was a limited dessert option for gluten free guests. Overall, for the price, we were a bit disappointed.

Three of us traveled from New York to the National Figure Skating Championships in San Jose and stayed at the Fairmont Hotel in which The Grill was located. Although we were delayed past our reservation and arrived within an hour of closing because of the skating, our host accommodated us seamlessly and assured us that we would not be rushed. We weren't, ans had a relaxing, delicious, and memorable dinner.

The Grill employs a "team service" approach, so we had two main servers who coordinated between themselves expertly. Both servers were knowledgeable and, maybe more importantly late in the evening, fun. Fantastic wine recommendations, witty banter, and quick to check if everything was going well.

New York Strip, Petit Filet, and T-bone were all stellar, perfectly cooked. Sides of shaved grilled asparagus and light crispy onion rings were hot and well-timed. The beef was first-rate. The featured wine from Duckhorn complemented the meat beautifully.

We enjoyed this dinner so much we returned after the last night of the competition (10:30pm) to eat in the bar. Whiskey list gets to the point quickly; the scotch list is more expansive. When I'm in San Jose again, I'm heading to The Grill, regardless of where I'm staying. In skating terms, The Grill landed a quad lutz perfectly.

Food and staff were excellent. We particularly loved the Prime Rib and the John Dory entrees . We were disappointed with the Chocolate Bread Pudding dessert, though.

Went here for NYE- it was not up to it's usual standards. Prix Fix menu did not have a vegetarian entree- they did make a pasta dish for the guest. Steak was overcooked and dry, desserts both served cold- much better when we asked them to warm them up ( bread pudding in particular). Would not come again with a Price Fix menu- much better ala carte.

Yes, it was New Years Eve..... and the waitress was VERY pleasant and attentive ..... BUT .... cocktails came AFTER the soup and salad were served. Prime rib was excellent (good portion and prepared just right. However, a total of four "miniature carrots" was the side vegetable with the meals. The side of au gratin potatoes was OK. Creme Brulee for dessert was a disappointment...little taste with a soggy crust.

Would I return...yes (we visit multiple times a year).... however not for a holiday "peak" meal. This was a $350+ meal for two .... not well spent.

This restaurant is over rated. It was great before and now it's going down the hill. The meal was charged for $75 and it was not worth of any dimes.
The salmon and mashed potatoes tasted blah. I cook better than that.

We were really disappointed with our meal at the Grill. The hostess and serving staff were sophomoric, the food was average, the restaurant was dirty (dust off the expresso machine, for Pete’s sake!), and the food was over the top expensive for a place with the defects described above. When you spend $55 dollars for a single steak on a plate and when a single glass of wine costs as much as you’d pay for a bottle elsewhere , you have the right to expect a clean, pleasant, delicious, professional dining experience. This place was definitely not worth the price.
Note about the Fairmont itself: what has happened to this hotel, which has always been known for luxury and sophistication? The sunken lounge, for example, which has always been a serene, sophisticated place to have tea or a quiet drink, now has a wide screen TV blaring sports, a live rock band, and was filled with grungy-looking guys drinking beer. It looked like a seedy sports bar! What a way to greet guests checking into a supposed luxury hotel. Overall, a fall from grace!

Service was excellent as usual.
Because it was Christmas Day, there was a set 3 course menu.
I felt there was a variety of selection of all courses to choose from.
As my main course, I chose the Prime Rib, prepared Med. It was a generous portion, but a bit tough.
Otherwise, I enjoyed the experience.

We have a Christmas tradition, for at least the past 10 yrs, of dining here on Christmas Eve or the day before. The evening began with a seating delay of 25 min. past reservation time. This would not have been an issue except that we were told upon arrival that our table was being bussed and would be ready momentarily. In reality, our table was still occupied. So rather than wait in the bar and order a drink, we waited in the area outside the restrooms. At one point, staff came and took the chairs we were sitting on since they were needed for dining. I mentioned to the hostess that we understood the wait yet would have preferred to know the reality and she stated that she was given incorrect info.

This year, the service was not up to the usual standard. One of the salads was delivered incorrectly, fresh pepper was not offered until people were halfway through their salads, and appetizer plates were left on the table through the salad course.

When we first sat down, we asked one of our waiters if the lobby door could be closed because of a draft. He said he would check. The door remained open. My son got up and asked the hostess and she immediately closed it.

Our waiters were working hard yet maybe had too many tables.

All of the food was excellent as usual!

The service was extremely slow. Our waiter visited other tables but did not check on us. We waited an hour and 15 minuets for our food, it’s a good thing we enjoyed each other’s company. We asked two different waiters for bread which we never received. However the steak was good and the potatoes were huge.

The wait time for food after ordering was extremely long. We received 10$ for that "lost time". The main dish size is small with only 1 small side. Quite expensive but delicious!

I ordered the Prime New York medium rare and it was served well done. The steak did not have a sear on it. It tasted like it was drowning in butter. Fries were served luke warm. Not a good meal at a very pricey price. My guess is The Grille has lost its edge as business is so good they don’t need to perform.

We were celebrating my mom’s birthday, which was noted on our reservation, and unfortunately, they sat us at a table next to the kitchen and very busy server’s walkway. The surrounding tables were extremely loud as well. Not the intimate dinner we were hoping for.

The food was very good and the servers were very attentive. Thank you to our server for bringing a cheesecake with a candle (on the house) for my date's bday.

I would have given 4 stars for the service. But our server forgot to put my date's half eaten steak in the togo bag. She was really looking forward to having that steak for breakfast the next day, so she was very disappointed when the steak was missing. So I will probably take her to Arcadia, so she can have another bday steak.

I had a fillet mignon with blue cheese sauce cooked medium rare. I think they over-compensated for the thickness of the cut as it was very solidly cooked for the first quarter through the steak, as a result losing the tenderness of this cut. Best way is to take the time to cook it slowly up to temperature and then scorch the outside. I could have waited for that. It was ok, but a little more care would have been appreciated.

The Grill is fine. But for the high cost of the dishes, there are so many other places in the bay area to go. For instance, close by is Mccormick and Schmicks. They are more reasonable, way better service and good food. If you want a great steak then go to Alexander Steak house in Cupertino. They can give you a much tastier Filet Mignon and I believe that that dish is similar in price. And if you want a place more intimate, with a great wine list, wonderful service and great food, go to Naschmarkt in Campbell.

I haven't been to the Grill for dinner in quite some time, but it was known for years for serving an excellent prime rib on Sunday evenings. It's no longer on the menu.... :(

The steak medallions were on the small side, especially given their $50 price. Plates weren't warmed as they are in many other chop houses. And, the creamed spinach served on the side was lukewarm at best.

The brownie dessert was the highlight!

$175 for a couple cocktails, a glass of wine, 2 entrees, and a dessert, mediocre service..... As others have written here, there are likely better options when it comes to a great steak dinner.
