The grill on the alley was very nice. The waiter was very attentive. For being outside in the evening, it was actually very warm and cozy.
Our waiter, Jesus, was excellent! I've always loved The Grill and I'll be back!
Our waiter was super gracious really made our experience pleasant. Meat was overcooked, we did not return we actually ordered new steak and it was rushed so not very good.
We will give it another try once indoor dining resumes and see if our food experience is a little different. But overall very nice restaurant with nice employees. We understand everyone has an off night so we would definitely try again.
We had the ribeye and porterhouse. Both steaks were done to perfection! Their Wedge salad with bleu cheese dressing is the best! As was the sauteed spinach and grilled broccoli. Service was excellent! (The only reason I gave Ambience a low rating is because of the COVID-19 Outdoor Dining requirement, and that the lighting was horrible in the tent. We are looking forward to the "Newsome Lockdown" being OVER as The Grill on the Alley has one of the nicest dining rooms in the South Bay Area) We'll be back! :)
It was during COVID and cold, that didn’t stop the great service! Heat lamps were great, and food was excellent!
Indoor dining ambiance - excellent! Covid outdoor dining ambiance - average.
Food & service is first rate.
The food was okay, a little bit pricey though its Valentine's Day. The food was lackluster in its presentation. Service was outstanding.
Service and food was awesome.
Giving that we are just off a shut down...
It was very calm and the service and food was excellent!
Service was fine; no complaints. Getting the food from the kitchen to the outdoor patio must have been a challenge; main course items were fine , but all side dishes were Luke warm.
Our Thanksgiving Dinner at the Grill was excellent. Server Dylan was great. COVID protocols strictly followed. The food was great. This is an excellent place to dine in spite of the virus
had no taste, no oil or spices on the ahi, was covered with some avocado cream with too much cream cheese
had the structure of mashed potatoes, again no spices, for price it should have been hand cut, felt like it was some left over meat ground 5 times
Porterhouse steak was excellent, sauces lousy
Asparagus side: o boy please cut of the end to remove the end that are not eatable, otherwise well prepared and spiced
Sautéd spinach, well prepared, almost no spice though.
Bread pudding with whipped cream, not fresh prepared, no fluffiness, watery fruit sauce
Drinks were ok
Overall way overpriced for food that one can cook better at home, the steak somehow saved our anniversary evening.
15 year anniversary
The service was great but the food was not on the mark. Mainly most items were not hot and everything was rewarmed. Sorry to see this decline.
The food was absolutely delicious! Better than we imagined. I asked one of the servers to thank the Latino cooks who are doing an amazing job of serving up delicious meals!
Paul is the best! He makes our visit feel special every time. The wait staff is great too. Food is always an A plus!
We did a Dine Downtown Prix Fixe menu and the food was great! Good portions and the service was excellent.
Our sever Therese was excellent.
The food was a bit too salty.
The food is always on point. The service was excellent!! The ambiance was nice not to formal.
Celebrating a friend’s birthday, we had a wonderful dining experience. Our server, Dillon was very attentive and definitely serves as a complement to the restaurant. The rest of the wait staff worked so well together and made it a very comfortable evening. Thank you “Handsome Dillon” and the rest of the staff!
We enjoyed a lovely birthday dinner for four. We were well cared for without being overdone. Food was delicious. Cocktails were wonderful
Jacob Hoekstra was an amazing waiter. Great food and amazing service. Will be back again forsure.
My only complain is the drinks. I order a Mai Tai and it wasnt that good.
Steak was unevenly cooked. Lobster tail was tough and rubbery. Burratta was okay, not outstanding. Moscow mule was watery and had more lime juice than ginger beer. And it cost $200 for a mediocre meal. Pretty disappointing.
It was a wonderful intimate time! Patio Dining in this climate with a pandemic and wild fires surrounding I was able to enjoy a great dining experience at the Grill on the Alley.
Service was stellar and the shrimp crab Louie was yummy but to expensive
Second time in a row steak over cooked.
Food was prepared very well , our servers where very welcoming , me and my fiancé enjoyed our 7 year anniversary here at the grill this was also our first evening back out since the pandemic we will becoming back
Great service. Great food. Enjoyed our experience.
This was an anniversary dinner and the manager Jeremy made it extra special. The food was excellent and service spectacular . It was outside dining and all precautions were taken for the guest safety. There were many choices of food to pick from. The RibEye along with FiletMignon/Lobster was our main course. The oysters and scallops were delicious as well as the poke. The wine selections were excellent to choose from. This is a hidden jewel that people need to dine at if they enjoy good service and food.
Great food, service, very clean! Management came by to check on us. Great to have a nice meal during this crazy time.
Highly recommend and would go back again. Service and food was impeccable.
We enjoyed a lovely afternoon with lovely food and the service was perfect.
Celebrated my 30th birthday. Everything was delicious and we even got all of our desserts comp.
Dining experience couldn’t have been better. Service and food were outstanding.
The food was terrible, especially for the price. If I am paying over $30 for shrimp pasta , at least make sure the shrimp isn’t over cooked. The shrimp was chewy, just disgusting. The oysters were extremely questionable, I didn’t eat them- I was literally terrified. And the lamp chops were so dry a side of dressing was necessary. Would never go back..... literally. They are charging High end prices on Low end quality food. It’s ridiculous.
We enjoyed being outside with a front row view of people enjoying the area.
Our server wouldn't wear his mask in a way that covered his nose. All of the other servers and staff did, but not him. It was just a really uneasy experience and we were shocked that no one else working there, including his manager, said anything to him about wearing it correctly. He stood away from the table when taking our order, but couldn't do that when dropping something off. We didn't really want to say anything if it wasn't being made into an issue by management that clearly saw him.
Taking that out of the equation and just judging the restaurant, it was just ok. Steak was salty and closer to medium than medium rare. Not enough to send back and wait for another one, but a steak that expensive that's touted as their "signature" should be done right. Sides and appetizer weren't anything special. Just a real lack of attention to detail you'd expect at that price point. Would I go back? Probably not. There are dozens of other steakhouses in the Bay Area to try out first.
Kristin, I am sorry that we were not able to meet your expectations, but even more so I apologize that we put you at unease during this difficult time in the world. We are committed to our guests safety, that being said we want you to know that our staff has been coached on the importance of full mask coverage and the consequences of failure to comply. I hope you'll accept my offer of dinner on us to make it up to you. Please call 408.294.2244 and ask for Lauren to make a reservation!
Service was horrible! My steak ordered was over done the first time and undercooked the second time. Fries were cold and soggy and the experience was overall awful! Will not return!
John, first I would like to say thank you for your honest feedback and the choice to dine with us in the first place. I am very sorry that we were not able to meet your expectations on this past visit, and hope that you will give us a chance to show you that it is not the normal for us! Please ask for Lauren on your next visit so I can be sure to make sure you are well taken care of!
We had a superb lunch on the patio, We had their ahi tuna appetizer. We then enjoyed their salmon burger. We also enjoyed dessert. Service was very good. This is a fun place to go for lunch.
The food was awesome but the dessert was something that left us all questioning?
