Consistent top notch service for the South Bay, and as always, amazing food. The Grill does the classics right, every time. We love coming here and they never disappoint. And if there is even the slightest hiccup, the staff and management more than make up for anything. Great staff, great food, great dining room, one of the last true greats in San Jose!
My dining experience was great and the waiter was fun. However, the bar is still being worked on and closed. It has been closed for almost a year now so it limits the selection you can have. Please open it up again soon.
We love The Grill! They accommodated our request for a particular booth, and our servers (Jacob and Hector) are the BEST!! The food was great, as always.
Can’t wait to go back for a good steak and that key lime pie.
This was our first time at the Grill and we were a little pressed for time, so we did not take a full look around or experience the bar for an overall review. That said, food was excellent, my scotch was poured tall and our server was spot on and very attentive. A little pricey but worth it. My only complaint is that the white cloth napkins and table cloth left my black slacks in desperate need of lint brush. A little frustrating as this was the beginning of our night and it was quite noticeable. Other establishments I have been too will offer you a black napkin based on your attire. I know, first world problems lol
There is a mature lady who sits customers and she was rude. She sat us near the ovens and i requested if we could be seated to the row before us. She said that was reserved. I didn't give a big deal because I knew it wasn't reserved. We left the resto with that table still open. How rude... she doesn't smile and has an attitude.
Went here for Valentine's Day. Service and food was great. Received recommendations from wait staff and never felt rushed to leave, even though they got busy.
It’s was a delightful valentines experience, everything was timed perfectly. We enjoyed ourselves.
It’s Valentines Day and we had a 3:45pm reservation. We were seated by the corner of the restaurant, which I understand because it was a bit last minute reservation. The bread was fresh from the oven, butter has salt on top of it. Very tasty. We ordered two dishes, rib eye steak and pan seared scallops. Both dishes were great! Temperature of the steak was ordered medium well and came out medium well. It’s always been very consistent whenever we eat here. We also ordered the lobster bisque and it was also good but the size was very small, like a cup of soup for $12.
Outstanding food, great decor/ambiance, has that "Eastern-New York City" look! Hope that does not turn you off, because it inspires me/us. The waitress is a living doll--we had a great time just talking to her (Giavanna).
Awesome service. Food was good. Make sure you ask about items not listed on the menu. Will come back again.
Excellent food and service in a subdued, civilized atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit and I will be returning soon.
Last year when we visited Grill on the Alley I wrote a complaint. This time around, everything was excellent. Don't know if the new manager helped, but both my wife and I had a great time. We will be back in November to celebrate my birthday.
Always a favorite. They always seat us at "our table" and the steaks were divine. Looking forward to the completion of the bar remodel.
Always a solid dining experience at The Grill. Friendly service, excellent food, good wine selection. Highly recommended.
Everything was awesome!
Great food and service
Great, as always. Whenever I am in San Jose for business, I try to make it here.
Took my som to lunch for his birthday! Always enjoy The Grill! Service was excellent! Food was good. Appetizer, tuna tartare excellent! Filet salad very good! Burrata salad had too much burrata and not enough salad. Still very nice!
Service fine, meat overcooked.
Everything was as we expected. The entrees were cooked to perfection. A couple of times we had to enlist the help of other staff when our waiter was not around. Everyone was accommodating and always with a smile.
HORRIBLE SERVICE DURING OUR LATEST VISIT TO THE GRILL. We have gone to The Grill for years. The food is always great (and this visit was no exception). I'm not usually one to complain, but the service was absolutely TERRIBLE during our latest visit.
- Once seated, it took 5-10 minutes for ANOTHER WAITRESS (not even our assigned waitress) to provide us with menus and take out drink order.
- I had to ask the support staff to find out waitress after multiple stretches of time without any service.
- Our waitress never once refilled our drinks without us having to specifically ask.
- We ordered side dishes to go along with the entrees. Once our food was delivered, the side dishes were nowhere to be found. Because our waitress didn't check in with us after the entrees were delivered, we had to flag down the bus staff to inform them that our side dishes were missing. Even after that, it took forever for our waitress to appear to deal with the issue. Apparently, our waitress neglected to submit our side dish orders to the kitchen staff. Once our waitress finally appeared, she didn't apologize and didn't acknowledge that she forgot about the side dishes (instead, she just brought out the side dishes about 10-15 minutes later and played it off as if she didn't forget anything ... despite the fact that I told her that we needed to be somewhere and that if the side dishes weren't prepared yet, we didn't want them anymore due to the time issue). The waitress wasn't rude or mean. She just didn't seem to care.
There was not apparent reason for the bad service. We had an early dinner (4pm) and there was hardly anyone else eating at the restaurant ... and there was an abundance of staff floating around. It's disappointing that the service was not only terrible, but that the waitress didn't seem to care one bit. And, it's also disappointing given the fact that we have been loyal customers of The Grill for years and during all of our prior visits, the service has always been top notch
Service very slow, mixed up my drink order. When we had finished dessert, the waiter finally brought my drink order. We were ready to go, I figured he just for got it. I think he was new, nice person but not ready to be waiting tables on own
My Caesar salad was not chilled, lettuce room temperature . John Dory was overdone and dry. The steaks were great . Just disappointing as it was a special occasion for us.
I had the John Dory, my wife had the lamb chops. Both were delicious and cooked to perfection.
Excellent steaks and salads. Good for business or just a good night out.
Food was amazing (seared scallops, grilled asparagus, filet mignon, new york steak, etc) atmosphere was classy but comfortable . . . . a couple errors with our food orders and the server was not too attentive but still I would rate the dinner a 4.5 out of 5 stars
The waiter hurried us through the whole dinner process because he said “It was about to get crazy that evening” and the food was mediocre!! I wouldn’t spend the money.
Excellent as always. My absolute favorite classic steakhouse in San Jose. Had their specialty New York steak with Unami sauce, daughter had lamb and wife scallops- brilliant. Service friendly and professional and smooth. About my hundredth time here and it is consistently superb. The only demerit is for the bathroom which could use updating and does not meet the standard of the rest of the environment. Servers are experienced and get to know you over time and remember your preferences. Refreshing compared to the good steakhouses with lots of turnover so you feel more like you’re on a conveyor belt or they just don’t care. What else can I say - it’s my go to place.
A very mixed & ultimately disappointing experience...while everyone agrees the food was very good, a couple things were disturbing...in a relatively empty restaurant an EXTREMELY loud group were seated right next to our table, completely obliterating our ability to converse, & was never addressed by restaurant staff...
Server was excellent, checking to see if we were going to a show, [we were], eliciting there was a birthday at the table as show time got close we just paid the bill, tipping our excellent server very nicely as it was a special night & she was great...imagine our suprise, disgust, & anger when, glancing at our bill upon our return to our hotel room after the show, we saw an $8.00 charge for the "birthday treat!!...how utterly calssless is that??...we are very aware the restaurant business is a very tough gig, but this was patently insulting if not just plain greedy...while we will tell people the food is very good they will have to listen to the rest of our story...we will not be going back ourselves...too bad...
Dinner and lunch experiences. Well done. My wife’s birthday month celebration. We stayed At Fairmont as we saw ZzTop concert just across the street!
Matt and Sean were great... the only negative was the wontons served with the ahi were totally stale
Love the Grill
I have eaten many times at Grill on the Alley in Beverly Hills (as well as Thousand Oaks) and this experience does not resemble that of original location. Bisque was good but not great and had very little lobster. Creamed spinach was generic. Evening special of salmon and lobster was just average, with the salmon being of ordinary commercial quality. The chicken pot pie alone stood as a fine tribute to the Grill on the Alley brand. The hamburger was unspeakably awful. It was hard and overcooked, the bun was also stale. The baked potato had been reheated from a previous day and never should have been served.
This was a terrible disappointment.
The service was great! Food was not worth the money. $250.00 for 2 meals. Overall, I would not eat hear again.
Our server- Theresa was amazing.
The food is great. Steaks are always perfect, sides are big enough for two, overall great food.
We went for New Years Eve-We had checked out the menu earlier so we we excited for our dinner. Unfortunately, we got there and there was an overpriced prefixed menu. The food was only OK and none of us got what we really wanted (which was on their original menu). When I made reservation there was no mention of a prefixed menu. We left much poorer and ultimately -unsatisfied. I'll go back for a regular night out but never again for a holiday.
Lobster Bisque and crab cakes were very fishy. Way over priced for what you got. Main meal was ok-salmon was prepared well. Not sure it was a $250 meal for two people......
The food is very low quality for a four star restaurant and in Fairmont hotel. The food was not fresh. The server was excellent.
We had the fixed price dinner which is offered on Christmas Day. Service was terrific. Atmosphere was casual elegance. The cocktails were tasty and interesting. Appetizer and entrees were excellent, desserts did not measure up.
Had a beautiful Christmas meal to a set menu that was absolutely delicious!
