The bar area was great, able to watch tv while waiting or you can eat there. Table service and drinks were top notch. Loved the tuna appetizer!
We live in the John Hancock building and we often go to this place when we want good healthy food, but do not feel like cooking. This place is never pretentious and you can always get a good table. It is not trendy and over hyped like Mastros or Joes, and the food is much better. The service is first class with the waiters and ambiance. Unlike the places just mentioned that have decreased in quality over the years, this place is consistent with quality ingredients, preparation, and staff.
We are very fortunate to have this top notch steakhouse right across the street from our condo. Drinks are perfect and the bartender can make anything. Desserts were great and huge. We bought the key lime pie, the brownie and the apple streusel for 6 people and we still had leftovers.
If you want to have a TRUE Chicago great steak, fish, mixed drink and dessert like great home cooking that isn’t trendy and flowery like the others, this is the place.
Wonderful food. Great cocktails and key lime pie outstanding
Alex Pelletier visiting from Florida.
Best Chicken Pot Pie. Great location, quick and pleasant service. Also a neighborhood gem.
My waiter was great and the food was outstanding. Also I had a cocktail a couple hours before in the bar and the bartenders were great and made a good drink. I don't know their names (waiter or bartenders) but they did a great job. I often stop in to have a drink when I am in town but I had never eaten at the restaurant before. Definitely a good experience!
As good as I remember it to be. Our server Julie was very knowledgeable and was very understanding when we had just a couple issues with the temperature of our bisque. Overall a very nice experience and excellent meal.
New Year’s Eve around 6:00PM. Our waitress was very nice and always was at our table if we needed anything. Food was very delicious, bottle of wine was over priced.
Wonderful time! Staff was terrific; setting was warm and charming; food met all expectations.
First visit to this restaurant and it was very enjoyable. Server made excellent suggestions and was very attentive to our needs. We have it on our list to visit again when we return to Chicago during the summer.
We ate Christmas dinner at The Grill on the Alley mostly by default since there were not many other options. The meal overall was ok. The best part of the meal was the delicious crusty bread and slightly salted butter. We ordered off the Holiday Menu which was a good value. My lobster bisque was excellent but not quite hot enough. The prime rib was pretty good but the yorkshire pudding was disappointing. The cheesecake was very good. Our waiter was attentive and did a great job. I don't think I'll go back but it was fun to be just off Michigan Avenue during the holiday season.
Christmas dinner with my wife who had a recent death in her family.
Price was right and excellent service.
The staff is very friendly but the food is overpriced and the ambience was not was expected-
The jam and jelly caddy were still on the tables at night.
This is fine for drinks after work or for a family that wanted to eat in the hotel.
One of my most favorite restaurants for every meal. The food is very good, with interesting and creative touches and the service is outstanding. The selection of wines and beers is wide and excellent.
We have taken out of town visitors to The Grill on the Alley. We have met friends for breakfast, lunch and dinners. Always a wonderful time because of the nearness of North Michigan Avenue (The Magnificent Mile), the lake, river tours, etc. All of these and excellent food.
This is an “old style” restaurant. High-backed, leather booths. NO loud, grating “music”. NO screaming kids - or alleged grown-ups either. Service that was responsive - but without any “hovering” or the usual stupid questions (such as, “How are we liking our meal so far?”). We could actually HEAR one another talk and left with our sanity intact.
They weren’t in a hurry for us to go so they could turn the table and we were not surrounded by hoards of other people. They even brought us a complimentary dessert in observation of our anniversary.
It wasn’t “cheap” - - - - but it was worth every penny!!
Our waiter started off very attentive, but then became aloof and difficult to find once the entrees were served. He came back to collected our empty plates and took the bread, despite the fact we said we said we were still hungry may order a salad to split. We had the sea scallops - they were excellent but all you got was sea scallops, no rice, vegetable etc.
We ordered a dessert to split, and he again disappeared we had to flag the busboy to get our check. We signed and were ready to leave (enough time to get to our concert) but the waiter appeared to explain he ran my credit card on someone else's check and we then had to wait another 10 minutes. Better value at lunch and better service, too.
Everything was amazing! Highly recommend this place.
The food here is consistently good! A varied menu makes it a winner for all palates. Try the crabcake appetizer...delicious!
We enjoyed the waitress. She was outstanding. The food was very good. We sat next to a table of three fellow workers. They were passionate and concerned about some fellow workers. That was a bit of a distraction... But they left about the time our food arrived. We were celebrating our 49th wedding anniversary and would have preferred a little more quiet, but we were in a restaurant! There was a lot of noise out in the bar area - people were having fun!
