The Grill on the Alley - Aventura Ratings and Reviews
I've dined here more than half a dozen times. Sometimes I get a very good to excellent meal, other times average. Last night the brick chicken was undercooked inside. The crab cake was more breading than crab. The grilled vegetable platters were very good and the service was excellent. I love the booths there for a sense of privacy and it's easy to have conversations without raising your voice.
In the past, the steaks and chops have been very good. The fish dishes are too simply prepared and lack imagination. The high prices would be ok if there was consistently excellent food and service, which is not the case here.
The service was excellent, the food was great and the atmosphere is very nice. My only reaction that was less then great is that the restaurant was far from full but we were not permitted to sit in a booth because we had not requested it when I made the reservation. I had no idea that a booth had to be requested in the reservation.
This restaurant has been a favorite of ours whenever we visit the area however, the past two dining experiences there have been disappointing. While the service and ambience are still quite good, the steaks have been disappointing for the following reasons: 1) the meat has not been hot when brought to our table and we don't return it to the kitchen because it will then be overcooked by the time it reaches us a second time. 2) We have ordered their petite New York strip steak on 2 separate visits and each time have received filet mignon. To our knowledge, they are not the same but perhaps we are wrong. Perhaps we call cuts by different names where we live (NYC). But their menu lists filet mignon as a separate offering so…..? In any event, we will be a bit hesitant in returning which is a shame because in the past, we enjoyed the restaurant.
We were traveling from Boston and are used to going to very nice steak restaurants there - and didn't know what to expect from The Grill on the Alley. We were pleasantly surprised as this place is very strong with their steaks and seafood options. The portions are fairly large, from the appetizer calamari shared among 3 people to the 14 oz filet which was massive, yet perfectly cooked to my liking (medium rare plus). My wife's ahi entree was also quite large as well as our guest's shrimp and pasta dish. The lamb chops looked good, but the portion was a bit small. Dessert was good, not great. Perhaps having some signature dessert dish would be a welcome addition to their menu.
All in all, we were very thankful to find this reservation for New Year's Eve (at a place that was serving the regular menu and not forcing us into a prix fixe option). We'll go back the next time we're in the Miami area.
First of all, there were many empty tables and they told me that we had to wait 30 minutes. I had to tell them that we had an open table reservation and suddenly there was a table ready. My waiter was very rude. I felt that he was doing us a favor by serving us. Unfortunately the steak from the salad that we ordered was uneatable. He retrieved the plate and his only comment was that it was flank steak and that was the way is was supposed to be. We asked for the menu so we can order something different. When he returned he handed me the dinner menu instead of the the lunch menu without even saying a word. I had to ask him to please hand me the lunch menu since it was lunch time. He retrieved the menu from my hand and brought me the lunch menu. The only time he had a smile was when he brought the check.
I've dined at this restaurant before but this is my last.
We found the restaurant easy to book and surprisingly understated given the high quality meal we enjoyed. Service was mainly excellent although there was a lag in the middle. Steaks were top rate and the wine list high quality. Compared to other so-called premium steak restaurants locally we found the restaurant, food, wine and service to be superior, more friendly and much lower priced. I suggest the place markets itself more strongly but until others catch on it's a great place to go to as a 'walk in' and won't wreck your budget.
I have eaten at this restaurant many times. On this occasion the service was very lackluster, non friendly waiter (never even told us his name) and tried to remove the menus before he took our orders. Had to ask another waiter for a glass of wine and was not around when we wanted to pay. The steak was good, not great, and neither were the side dishes - baked potato and creamed spinach.
We have been coming to this place since it opened. It was a great alternative for upscale dining in a mall, the food and service used to be very good....but unfortunately it is not the case anymore. Our glasses of white wine were warm, we had to send them back TWICE. The salmon was overcooked, and the steak tartar was mediocre. Definitively I will not go back.
While the servers are professional looking, our experience was the server was inattentive, forgot some ordered and switched others. We ordered salmon,'snapper, Kale salad and grilled veggies, and soup. The soup tastes like Campbell's, but the snapper was excellent. Meh for the rest. But the Kale salad never arrived, and instead of the snapper, we were served on enteree size portion plus an appetizer sized portion of veggies -- and no snapper. Would a server who even remotely thinks about the meal his guests will eat serve this without confirming? After we were able to get his attention, it took about 10 minutes to come up with the snapper. Getting our check to leave was another ordeal!
Had a very disappointing meal. The dinner menu is very limited. The pasta dish was not hot and sent back. It was then over cooked and was drowned in pomodoro sauce. Although hamburgers are not on the menu, a Kobe Beef burger is available for $23.75. There are so many other restaurants with better food in this price range.
An expensive place within the Aventura mall with an outside entrance. Upscale steakhouse atomsphere.
Examples - a crab cake - $17.
Glass of wine $14.
Shrimp cocktail. $19.
The service is very good. Accommodated special food requests.
The restaurant is parallel to the capital grill, Ruth's Chris, or Mortons.
I didn't get a chance to look at the reviews but I took a chance and had dinner here with my daughter. If I could give a sixth star for customer service, I would. The waiter (Denilo) was amazing. He was just patient enough, polite enough, and made us laugh a few times. He was very helpful with the menu choices and was very anxious to make sure we were happy....a top shelf professional! The food was awesome. We both had the salmon which was perfectly cooked. The baked potato was HUGE and cooked just right. The grilled broccoli was a little tough, but the creamed spinach was really REALLY good! I would come back in a heartbeat, but Danilo has to be our server. After our great dinner and on our way out, we stopped and chatted with the manager, Adam, a very delightful gentleman who was genuinely pleased that we were pleased. Good job folks! We'll be back for sure.
Our party of three each had a different fish dish, and they were all fresh and delicious..Snapper , salmon and hallibut. Service was excellent and the wine list has plenty to choose from. We have eaten here at least twice within the last month, and have been pleased both times.
I was so impressed with everything at the G rill, we were greeted at least 3 times before we even began placing our orders.
Our server Joe was so cool. He had a great interaction with my 10 year old.
My dad had a wonderful time.
I am in love with the chicken pot pie, will definitely be having it again.
I didnt get a chance to take a photo of my crabcake because i went rght into it it was so sumptious.
The restaurant is stylish comfortable and immaculate. The servers are consummate and knowledgeable professionals who are very well trained in customer service. The food quality and presentation is consistent and professional presented. If the restaurant weren't in a large busy mall we would probably frequent it more often.
We tried The Grill on the Alley for the first time. There was a lively crowd at the Bar, but not many diners in the Main Dining Room. Our Server was lovely and very attentive. She kept us up to date on the status of our meals. Highly recommend the Fried Calamari and the Filet Mignon. Fish was done well, but not the reason to go to this lovely spot. We will visit again!
