The Grill at The Pittstown Inn Ratings and Reviews
Pretty, charming restaurant. My husband had a burger and thought it was good. I got the hanger steak, and while it was a nice cut, it desperately needed salt and pepper. I don't think the steak was seasoned at all. The vegetables were delicious. Burger was a reasonable price, but I do think overall that the entrees are overpriced. Most entrees are in the low $30's. Between drinks, apps and a meal, you're going to walk out of there with a decent bill. The vibe inside is more on the casual side, which I liked. But I can see how prices could turn some away, especially when unseasoned steak is being served.
I like the food. The menu change up looks good. Problem is you can’t understand the wait staff. The English is almost impossible to catch the details of the nightly specials. We tried to be polite and ask questions but the more we inquired the less we understood.
Every time we go it’s the same issue. The wait staff mumbles and does not pronounce the food items properly. Leaving us a little frustrated not understanding what possible choices are available. I suggest you write out the specials so guests can read for themselves. Helps for those whom do not have an ability to break thru the heavy accents from afar.
Had lunch with family before going to Tomato Tasting Festival and it was so worth the hour and a half drive! Tomato/basil soup was delicious and fresh. Chicken and bacon sandwiches were great. Our family had a burger and the fish and chips, which were very food. Excellent service! Would highly recommend! L&L
restaurant was close to the Beneduce Winery that we visited with friends. The Grilll was not crowded and was very comfortable from a spacing standpoint. Food was very good and will go there again. However, our waiter screwed up one order - she brought out an entree that my friend mentioned but not the one she ordered. Since it was her birthday, the messing up of the timing of our group eating together was very irritating. The only other comment is that this restaurant like many others charges a lot for any fish dishes such that I refrain from ordering because I am not comfortable with ordering a meal in the high $30's without knowing how good it will be.
We brought our friends who were visiting from NYC for Sunday brunch/lunch and to have time to talk and catch up. Our server, Joe, was very attentive and friendly. Three of us ordered from the brunch menu, (quesadillas, omelet, eggs benedict) and one ordered fish and chips. The portions were generous, the food was tasty. Everyone was happy. It was the first time there and we all enjoyed the atmosphere and the service. I look forward to going again.
Went here for dinner with my husband for the first time on Friday night. They were quite busy, but that's obviously a good sign! Ordered French onion soup, salmon tacos, hanger steak, and roasted chicken. We weren't crazy about the tacos, but everything else was delicious. Sometimes places that give you mashed potatoes and a vegetable medley with all entrees miss the mark, but they did a great job! Server and backwait staff were polite, knowledgeable, and very attentive. Looked like a great bar scene as well! We will definitely be back.
Disappointed this time. It was St Patty's Day and the menu had nothing Irish at all. The Guinness was the best part of our meal. The waiter forgot our French onion soup....and our main course showed up first. The fish & chips were bready with a thin layer of fish. Not at all impressed for $18. Sent it back. Gary the owner always makes his way around and is very professional and nice. He came by as soon as we arrived and not again after. Otherwise we would have provided him the feedback.
Went here for our anniversary but we were very disappointed. The food was average, at best, and very expensive for the quality. The surf and turf special, a piece of average filet and one shrimp, was $42. The service was poor but the dining room was not crowded. There was a waitress, a server and a bus boy but they couldn't seem to coordinate their duties. My husband was long finished with dessert and the table cleared including all silverware before we ever got our cappacinos. When we asked for spoons, the waitress appeared confused saying she already gave us spoons. The only positive was the lamb chop appetizers whI have were excellent.
Because we live in the area we tried the Grill again despite having had less than positive experiences in the past. Once again we were disappointed.
He enjoyed his halibut despite the rice arriving cold from the refrigerator. My mixed green salad was average and the vegetarian spring rolls were ok. Nothing special.
Service is where this place always lacks. While being seated we were given a table next to a large and loud party. I asked if we could at least be one table away but was told that table was reserved. Well, we had a reservation too so I'm not sure what the problem since that particular table wasn't anything special
My dinner arrived before his which is always a pet peeve of mine. They said his would be out shortly and it was within a couple of minutes but then his rice was cold so it was taken back into the kitchen. By the time it came back I had almost finished eating.
Another pet peeve is when the server clears the plates before everyone has finished eating. I had to eat my dinner while he waited for his and my plate was cleared before he was even half way through. This is not a diner.
It was not an enjoyable or relaxing dinner mostly due to server errors and feeling rushed through our meal.
Positives: Service was very good. Food was excellent. The live music was great and a nice surprise.
Negatives: A little odd that the entrance almost makes you feel like you walked into a side, service door right next to the bathrooms. The seats were hard as a rock and uncomfortable. The wine list was very lacking compared to other places of similar level. They need more to choose from and have better selections under the $50 range.
Busy night just before Christmas, but the host could not have been more accommodating! We ran into old friends who were leaving and suggested they join us in a drink and they were able to immediately find a table that worked for 5 instead of 3. Server was attentive. Food was great!
After having a number of spotty quality dinners here, dinner this past weekend was amazing. The filet was perfect and flavorful. There is a hint of curry and spice. Not too much; really perfect. Service was slow as we think they just got overwhelmed because everyone arrived at the same time. The owner gave us a glass of wine to make it up. We're definitely going back now.
For the price of the meal we did not get value..
The restaurant was not full by a long way and they seated us at the furthest table they had.
The food that we had was not very inspiring and should have been as there were not too many diners and so plenty of time to present a fabulous meal
We travelled a distant and will find it hard to revisit.
We've been to the Grill at the Pittsown Inn numerous times but this was the busiest I've ever seen it. Luckily we had a reservation and were seated immediately. The staff were all working very hard to accommodate everyone. The food service was a bit slow due to the volume but the kitchen maintained their normal high quality. Management gave us an extra glass of wine to thank us for our patience. Overall I was very pleased. Despite the wait, the staff and management handled the situation properly and kept everyone happy. But if you plan to go on a Saturday night, I highly recommend making a reservation!
The staff was fantastic. Our waiter was knowledgeable and funny, he helped us have a great time. There were 4 people in our party and we all had different entrees. They were all cooked perfectly and with great presentation. The Owner/GM was very accommodating and kind in helping us change seats. We will definitely be back.
