The food was good. My salad was especially tasty. My $25 tortellini came with exactly 5 tortellini, all of which were bland. My wife’s beef was cooked expertly. Her soup was delicious. And The charcuterie was all over the map: some of it was outstanding, and some of it (we’re pretty sure) was Fancy Feast.
They gave us one small pad of butter for the table. And it was served on a flat rock.
Overall, we liked it the meal!
It was $190.
For $95 a person, I feel like I should come away saying “oh my god it was fantastic!”, not “yeah, it was good.”
I don’t want to return.
A lovely restaurant with creative, unusual, delicious food and a great atmosphere. The wine list even included an Arneis! We had a lovely 3 hour dinner with friends and enjoyed every minute of it. Such a great surprise on our first visit to Omaha!
Wonderful night out, delicious meal
Good food...interior decor was great....service was good
Excellent. Great unusual menu options. Fantastic service.
The meals were very good, as usual, but the menu hasn’t changed since Christmas. Our foursome really enjoyed the food and service—the whole concept of the restaurant. Still, I’d like to see the menu change more often. Perhaps when I return to Omaha next time.
The overall experience was exceptional until we got to the end of the meal. At this point, we learned that the restaurant has a new initiative of adding 20% hospitality charge to all checks regardless of party size. A portion of this is used to tip the kitchen staff which I have never heard of. You are gently encouraged to tip beyond if you believe you server warranted more as part of the 20% will go to the kitchen staff and of course other service support staff. The service was excellent, but it was a weird moment at the end of the experience to learn of this policy. I would only recommend the restaurant with the caveat about the charge.
Spectacular meal, service, ambiance—our second here in the last few years. To us, coming from Los Angeles, The Grey Plume must rank as one of the best restaurants in the country. We’re talking Michelin Star level food. Don’t miss it.
Our meal was wonderful, as usual. We recommend Grey Plume very highly.
The Grey Plume and Clayton Chapman never disappoint! I had not been there for some time, but the service and the food were as excellent as I remember. On our server's recommendation, I had the steelhead trout, which has been on the menu for several years and no wonder. My husband said that the celeriac soup could make him a vegetarian. (Then he ordered the waygu beef!) Presentation was exceptional! The by-the-glass wine list had so many interesting choices so that I didn't feel the need to order a bottle. One of the many reasons Omaha is such a great place!
We hadn't been to the Grey Plume in a while, but we found it every bit as good as we remembered it. Food and service are both exceptional. Little extras like an amuse bouche, homemade butter and little complimentary cookies as you leave make dining there a memorable experience. The waitstaff are friendly and efficient and prices, though not cheap, are reasonable for what you get.
Love the place. Every bite is thought out carefully and tastefully! One of my all time favorites.
We were celebrating a birthday of a friend. The food was well prepared and we will be talking about it for years to come. The staff was over the top in extending wishes and had a card signed by all waiting when we arrived. What a special touch. Although this was a special occasion I would recommend anytime.
We had an amazing time celebrating my husband's birthday at The Grey Plume. We make a point to visit about once a year and enjoy every minute to the fullest. The food is amazing, the staff is attentive and it is all about the details. I can't describe the amazing combinations of flavors we experienced but they all worked and they were all unique. My husband went to the restroom and while he was gone our server came over and folded his napkin for him and placed it by his plate. Every detail is considered. Simply a wonderful dining experience and I highly recommend it for a special occasion or a night where you want to spend more than normal, knowing that you will get your money's worth.
The Grey Plume offers outstanding service, outstanding food, and outstanding overall experience!
What an amazing place. I love the fact that they are green. Great staff!
We have always enjoyed the G.P. and this was no different!!! Service excellent! Food fabulous !
Came here with my friend for his birthday dinner. The service and atmosphere was outstanding. They did an amazing job. We did not like the food.
HI ! I came early and the staff was accommodating while I waited for my date. The kitchen also accommodated my Shellfish allergy adeptly and thoughtfully. The service was pleasant and fine. The host/manager went out of his way to be hospitable and conversational.
I am probably the wrong person to ask about the food, because I am a Chef that has worked farm to fork restaurants for many years (my own and others in Sioux City & The Bay Area) and just have a different take on how to approach it. I prefer more generous portions and food that is not "too busy". I found the plates often confusing without form or construct I could follow. I did however really enjoy the beat soup and the various items that were put in the bowl first. Attractive and good texture when consumed. The flavour on the chocolate mousse or whatever it was, was nice and I can still taste it :-) . For some reason my date did not like the scallops, I am not exactly sure why.
All the different drops and lines of sauces are interesting and had nice texture and taste plus vibrant or pastel colours. The wine we picked matched her meal well. Again it was a lovely and memorable evening. I'm glad I ate a bag of chips on the drive down from Sioux City, or I might of left hungry. I remember, when I first came to Sioux City from San Francisco, where I went to school and grew up, and hearing this complaint about a buffet that had a new, more discriminating Chef. They said; " the food was crummy and there wasn't enough of it !". So perhaps after twenty some years of living in lovely Sioux town, I've been corrupted. All the best.
As usual we had a great meal, a wonderful time, and a memorable evening.
What more can you ask for. We will be back.
This was a dinner to celebrate a co-worker from out of town’s birthday. Everyone walked away happy and had tried something new.
The food was prepared well, but they are obviously trying too hard to be “modern” or hipster and the food suffered because of it. The portions were tiny, and definitely not worth the fairly high price. For example, they charged $16 for a single glass of a wine that is no more than $25/bottle. We were not impressed, and will likely not be returning.
Too many mushrooms everything had mushrooms
We’ve been many times and I don’t think I’ve ever rated anything below 5 stars - grants we’ve never been before on Valentine’s day. The food was wonderful as always - creative and delicious. The bar manager and our waitress were both wonderful. Unfortunately, the dining room overall was chaotic and disorganized.
The wait staff was not given good direction. The menu had been changed and they weren’t familiar with the dishes. We were n a central location and saw staff with food confusedly looking for where it went. Our courses were not the choices we ordered, but we accepted them and they were delicious. Just not what we ordered.
It was by no means a disaster but at about $300 for 2 people with wine, I expect a much more seamless experience.
Been here a few times and it has never disappointed me. Great restaurant!! See you soon :)
We celebrate Valentine's Day and our anniversary at The Gray Plume since they're both in February. It's such a special treat to eat there, and something we enjoy looking forward to. Their food is edible art. Every detail is executed perfectly, and you don't want to waste a delicious morsel. :) I also appreciate that their staff is so friendly and approachable. I can't say enough good things about this restaurant.
Given all the hype, this place missed the mark for us on food (which was okay), service (see above), and the vastly overpriced wine list. I’m afraid we won’t be back. In Omaha, The Grey Plume may be a big fish, but it wouldn’t stand out in any culinary capital (or here, for that matter).
Our third visit over about 2 years. We did the 5 course tasting for a change. Each course was wonderful and well timed. We will return!
Great food. Outstanding service. The staff really went above and beyond to take care of us.
Having been to the Grey Plume in previous years, I can honestly say that while the overall experience has changed, it is should still be considered for a wonderful meal. It just doesn't appear to be the gastronomic adventure I recall on my earlier visits.
My wife and I went to celebrate our wedding anniversary. I noted this on my reservation and the staff provided the exceptional touch of a hand written note wishing us the best and thanking us for choosing to spend our evening with them (even signed be the staff on-duty that evening!)
The prices were significantly lower than on initial visits which actual prompted us to try more items (though you can NEVER pass up the duck fat fries topped with an egg)!
Again, I highly recommend this establishment for a wonderful meal and thoughtful yet unobtrusive staff!
Thank you for another wonderful memory!
Absolutely divine experience. This place should be on the Michelin map! A wonderful place for special occasions (or fancy business dinners).
Great food and service. Definitely a Michelin star quality experience.
Delightful evening! Did the 5 course tasting and so glad that we did. Deconstructed French Onion soup was phenomenal, pasta was great & loved the Opah fish course. Highly recommend the Royal Tokaji dessert wine to go with dessert course. It is a bit pricey but worth it!
The food was tasty and creative. The caramelized pickled onions were delightful. There were many very nice details including very good wheat berries and lentils. The french onion soup was one of the best in broth flavor- very beefy! that I've ever had.
Food was excellent. Duck fat fries a must. The soups are uniquely creative and delicious. Pork belly incredible. Great vegetarian options. I do wish the ambience was not quite so dark. Nonetheless, a One of a kind modern-creative restaurant in the region. Bravo
I always have a great experience at The Grey Plume. They combine local ingredients in a way that seems refined and rustic at the same time. Always get the soup! During this visit I had a play on French Onion soup that was AMAZING.
The Grey Plume was the perfect place to go for a first date! Great food, great atmosphere, good service with the exception that the waitress seemed to want to rush us and take food away before we finished.
This is a beautiful, well-curated restaurant serving locally-sourced food in delightful, inventive, but still comforting dishes. Acting as a hub for local food producers, artisans, and craftsmen, The Grey Plume presents and sells local Nebraska/Iowa products with pride. We celebrated my husband's birthday here and were blown away by the attention to detail, excellent level of service, and the elevated ambiance. We look forward to our next visit.
This was the best Date night my wife and I have had for the longest time
the food was perfect, the wine was picked to suit our personal preferences
the tasting menu really showed the staffs skill and let them shine in the best way possible
We did the four course tasting menu with wine pairings. It was phenomenal! There was a small hiccup in the service with a longer gap between the appetizer and soup, but nothing an extra glass of wine couldn’t fix. Highly recommended
