The Greens at Copake Country Club Ratings and Reviews
excellent local spot w/ great food, service & scenic golf course/lake views.
All our 2nd choices were very good.
only drawback having to go to 2nd choices - disappointments; several of us wanted eggs benedict and/or beef hash w/ poached eggs and were told N.A. - at 1PM on a Sunday? Sold out? Nope; ran out of Hollandaise sauce! At 1PM during Sunday brunch?
Why not make some more chef??? Odd.
The food and the view were, as usual, outstanding. However, the service was not even close to what we usually experience at the Greens. You seem to have changed from a small, experience staff to a larger amateur group. Our waiter was very nice, but asked us how we were doing every 5 minutes, then wasn't around when we needed him. We got water immediately, but waited ten minutes before bread showed up. Neither the waiter, nor apparently the bartender could quite figure out my martini order, although the waiter seemed to know the wines better.
The low point of the evening came when one our our dinner guuests spilled his wine on the table. Althoug I waved my arms vigorously in their direction, neither the hostess, nor the young woman "helping " her gave any sign of recognition. This, in spite of the fact that the "helper" was staring right at me. A woman at the next table had to lend us her napkin while we cleaned the table. After it was all over, a busboy noticed something amiss and brought new napkins.
And one other small issue. Please teach youur staff how to pronounce the items on the menu. Our waiter not only fractured French terms, but a few English ones as well. It's a small matter, but it doesn't instill confidence in his knowledge of the food.
Once again, we had a delicious meal at The Greens. We sat outside, overlooking the golf course and the lake. Because, both the bar and regular menus are availble, it was easy to satisfy all parties. From a chef's selection vegetarian plate, to a Herondale burger to inventive main fish courses -we were all pleased with our choices. We are so lucky to have such great dining at Copake Lake.
Great location, great service, I just wished more culinary inspiration came from the treasures surrounding the restaurant, i.e. the dozens of local farms producing seasonal wonders. Get inspired from what's in season and have some fun with the menu! It will be noticed!
I have been dining at the Greens for some seven years now and have never had a bad experience, the food is quite good and over the past year or so the kitchen has become more creative and adventuresome. The staff has always been friendly and helpful and have even indulged me with a table by the fireplace on Saturday afternoons when I have had a great deal of grading to do. The outside deck and screen porch are both wonderful fair weather locations and the fireplace on a cold night is a treat. Drinks are well proportioned and the wine list offers good selections for a variety of budgets.
The dining room is lovely and there are some tables on the patio.
My very particular dining friends really liked it. Note that creative seasonal cocktails are on the bar menu.
Kids no problem!
We'll be back.
The Greens did a friend's wedding last year and it was terrific!
Our party of 5 arrived for brunch this past father's day and had a lovely table with a view outdoors. The service was slow and it took half an hour just to get a cup of coffee. We were with our elderly father and our food took over one hour to arrive. Not a good choice if you like to be served within a more timely manner.
We did not order anything fancy which may have needed more prep time. Not enough wait staff and not very attentive. They were not prepared for the holiday and were not even that busy.
The Greens restaurant is a mile above most country restaurants, not that we don't have delightful ones in Columbia County NY. But The Greens has somehow snagged a really good chef, and it is poised above a beautiful sweeping golf course, and its decor is tasteful in a sophisticated yet country way. I love that there's room around each table, so you don't feel squeezed. Try the specials!
Aa hidden unexpected gem on Copake lake. Sit overlooking the beautiful golf course. Their menu is always consistent. Start with a local farm to table salad, the fish is always good as are the burgers. Locally raised chops are always perfect. Personally I don't favor their pubby type choices. The chef is classically trained. Great choices of wine. Good bar. Make sure to reserve, they have private affairs during the summer.
This is our favorite restaurant in the Hudson Valley and maybe even Columbia County. The food is really excellent. They just changed it for the season and there were some great new additions. The chicken was moist and very flavorful. Our friends had the fish special and said it was delicious. I think their bread is worth splurging on. It is that good. The margaritas were so good we had 3. :) Total. Not each. The kids ordered and then went out and ran and played. It was perfect. It was very crowded and yet the service was still very good. Anthony seemed to make it all happen for lots of tables. A little wait but no too long. Time for one more margarita. My husband was very pleased with the wine list by the glass. A really really great experience every time we go.
The setting is lovely, both inside and outside dining. The food is quite good but we prefer the bar menu which they allow you to order in the dining room. We had hanger steak, fish and chips and a burger all very good with nice sides especially the cold slaw.
Sadly, our experience was less than perfect. When we arrived on a busy Friday night it was understandably noisy, but quieted down as the evening progressed. After a lengthy wait we received our drinks and after another lengthy wait the waitress arrived to take our order. We all ordered a first course -either salads or appetizers. Caesar salads were served without dressing and returned to the kitchen for a do-over. The appetizer did not arrive until after we reminded our server. Our entrees were mediocre. Rib eyes were were flavorless, the duck special was good, as was the scallop dish, but the presentation left something to be desired. The bread was excellent and the blondie sundaes were also great! This was not our first time at The Greens. We were immensely satisfied on previous occasions, so hopefully this experience was an anomaly.
We could not have asked for a more enjoyable Valentine's Day Dinner. We were especially lucky to have a beautiful fireside table on such a cold night! Our waitress was lovely, the food selection was excellent, and the drinks were great. Normally, we would have wine with dinner, but we decided to do something different. The espresso martinis were delicious, and my boyfriend loved the black and tans!
We spent the day in Copake Lake looking at houses top potentially buy. Before embarking on a tour of the town and visiting various properties, we stopped at The Greens fro brunch. The food was delicious, the server was attentive. The list of farms that supply their fresh ingredients was prominently displayed on the wall and it added to the reassurance of the true gem that is the farm-to-table concept. Would recommend it fully to anyone in the area.
