My husband and I shared my birthday week-end at Hotel DuPont and had 2 lovely meals at the Green Room. Breakfast was superb with fresh squeezed OJ and delectable Fritatta and Eggs Benedict with salmon.
Dinner was romantic and special....great hostess!!!!! Great wait staff!!!
Thank you so much we will definitely be back!
Since my husband and I were helping two friends celebrate their wedding, I had chosen Sunday brunch at The Green Room at the Hotel du Pont because I have always equated it with outstanding service not to mention lovely Old World ambiance and good food. What a disappointment on Nov. 30! We were given a nice corner table but after the waitress offered us orange juice, poured lukewarm coffee and pointed in the direction of the buffet, I couldn't get her attention. The dining room was more than half empty so it wasn't as though she was overworked because there were at least three other servers. In fact, a good part of the time she was just standing on the other side of the wooden partition behind our table. I had to call to her to ask if we could get champagne at which point she said that we in fact had the option of a glass of champagne, a mimosa or a Bloody Mary. When we made our way to the lobby lounge for the food ( I was used to the buffet being in the center of the dining room --- having it in the lobby lounge made it more difficult to access for my friend with a cane), the only person in the room was a young lady who was tasked with both making the omelets and cutting the meat, so, if you just wanted a slice of beef and she was making an omelet, you had to wait for her to finish. When I pointed that out to a young man who appeared to be a manager, he just chuckled and said, "You don't want me slicing the meat." There seemed to be plenty of staff passing through the area but no one was behind any of the tables to tell us what was beneath the cover of each serving dish, none of which were marked. For example, what several diners (including me) thought was some kind of gravy, we later learned from the young man who appeared to be a manager, was lobster bisque --- and there were no bowls. After I spoke to him about the lukewarm coffee and lack of attention from the server, she did become more attentive, but, in general the experience was an embarrassment.
The room was beautifully decorated for Christmas but everything was downhill from there. We really were not quite sure who are server was. A gentleman came over and said he would "fill in" and take our drink order and they arrived promptly. After a rather lomg wait a woman took our order. The very limited menu was somewhat confusing. They offered a prix fix or a la cart. 50% of the items had a surcharge if you ordered the prix fix, e.g. There were 4 entees offerd and 2 had surcharges. We then waited over one hour between our first course and entree. The lady wuld come by periodically and apologize saying the kitchen was backed up which was hard to believe with the dining room half full and the limited menu. When tne entrees did arrive my wife's duck was cold, her mother's poached lobster medallions was miniscule despite a $12 surcharge and my Halibut with a $6 surcharge was good. My empty martini glass was never cleared from the table during the entire meal even though we all had ordered glasses of wine. The waitress again apologized for the service when she beought the check and they took off the wine and gave as a 10% discount. This was a nice gesture but the cost is not the point when you book a table at such a renowned spot. I think this is evidence that it is time for DuPont to get out of the restaurant business and stick to chemicals.
Checked on line and decided to try pre theatre menu. When arrived, was told they decided to not offer it. Need to keep website updated. Mushroom appetizer was great as was the salad. Sorry to say the duck was tough with small portion. My halibut was tasty until I got to the middle where it was cold. Wanted dessert but waitress came by too late. We thought that by arriving at 6:15 we would have enough time for a lovely three course dinner for the 8:00'show. What is happening to the Green Room. No cherry in manhatten and sitting by the entrance was a very busy place to be. Miss the old green room. Am still waiting for that second cup of coffee.
Our family had a fabulous evening at the The Green Room at the Hotel DuPont, celebrating our new Marine Corps officer. The food was perfection and the wine list met the demands of a wine connoisseur.
Historic Hotel with tons of ambiance. You step back into a time when dining out was an event to be savored. The food was good although not as spectacular as it was many years ago. The selection was somewhat limited. Service was very good and wait staff was attentive. My only criticism was bringing the bill to us long before we had finished.
We have been here for brunches in the past and were very happy with the service and quality of food. We will definitley make this a more frequest destination for special occasions in the future!
We celebrated our son's 18th birthday at Green Room. Upon arrival the staff prepared personalized manual with his name and occasion printed on top. Pleasant surprise! Of course he also receive complementary cake. The food was great and so was the service. The only problem is parking is still not very convenient especially if you prefer to park your self.
Love the variety of food. Service is spotty, have to ask repeatedly for refills of drinks. Good for a large or small group. They can accommodate.
The Green Room at the Hotel Dupont provided an exceptional meal, with exceptional service! What a romantic evening out without the hustle and bustle of the typical loud and hard to hear atmosphere we usually endure! This was well worth the visit!
Elegant relaxing atmosphere. Lovely service. Food quality did not warrant the very high price.
All my out of town friends see photos of me at the Green Room with other out of town friends and they always want to go. I've been going myself, since I was a child and I am never disappointed by the food, the service or the atmosphere. I love going here!
We loved our Sunday brunch experience. We wish it were no so expensive so we could do it more often. Only problem was that the room with the food was so dark we could barely see the foods we were choosing.
I chose the 4 course prix fixe menu for dinner and had very high expectations. 1st course was the poached lobster which was a bit tough but still very tasty, 2nd course was clam chowder with only one clam (seriously), 3rd course was the duck breast which was tougher than I expected but still very good with all of the offerings on my plate, and my 4th course was the 24 hour apple which I was not a fan of at all but I wasn't sure if that was because I was so full or if I just chose the wrong dessert for me. I think my disappointment was in the preparation of the food (overcooked). Presentation was beautiful and if nothing else, to sit in that dining room is quite the experience! The atmosphere alone would have me coming back.
Romantic atmosphere to celebrate a special occasion. Piano accompaniment throughout dinner. Three course dinner and wine just fabulous.
The setting was perfect for a special occasion. My wife and I enjoyed the friendly atmosphere. The food was good and the service was well above average. A pleasant experience, which we would sure come back for another special event.
Entree selection very limited. Wanted a filet, only meat was ribeye with lobster combo. Cost for dinner was out of sight for what was received, and was good but not very good.
Hotel duPont always delivers. The staff are knowledgable and professional and the ambience is first class. I would definitely recommend for a special occasion when you want to be pampered
I came here for a joint-birthday dinner with my girlfriend. we had a $100 gift card from my father and it was well spent! i got the lamb, which was succulent, and my girlfriend had the roast chick, which was also delicious. I believe this to be the best restaurant in the downtown area and will be back for sure. I felt so special and the service was perfect.
The ambience is quite elegant here with beautiful architecture and decor.
This has to be one of the best dining experiences I have had in all my years, the staff, dining area and food were all amazing, I was very impressed and excited with my entire experience.
My guest & I totally enjoyed the beautiful ambiance & delightful meal during our dining experience at the Green Room. The service was a little slow maybe because of the pre-theater time slot. But I would definitely return. This famed restaurant is a staple in my home town of Wilmington. So if you are celebrating a special ocassion or just want a truly first class culinary experience the Green Room in the Hotel DuPont should be your first choice!!!!!
Every time we stay at the Hotel DuPont we eat here. It is just so lovely, quiet and comfortable. The food and service is wonderful and its not too often that you have live piano playing to sooth you while eating. It truly is an experience that everyone should have. Don't miss out on this one.
Wonderful food; wonderful service. One of our best meals this year. We are very lucky in Wilmington to have such a fine hotel & restaurant. Thank you to everyone.
The Green Room at the Hotel DuPont is a fantastic restaurant! Everything is first class.
The Green Room comes through again in an extremely professional way! The wait staff made our business dinner a smashing success, and the hotel was able to seat us as a large group, which added a lot to our teamwork! Thank you, Hotel du Pont!
We chose to start the morning of our 10th anniversary with breakfast at the Green Room. A simple note to that effect was added to the open table reservation. We were greeted by name and congratulated on our milestone then taken to our table. The restaurant had reserved the best (most requested) table for us and provided beautiful flowers in the table. Our server then arrived with a complimentary pasty platter with "Happy 10th Anniversary" and our names elegantly written in icing by the pastry chef. We both chose the Hotel DuPont Eggs Benedict, mine traditional and my wife had the smoked salmon option. Both were delicious! The service was spectacular and the hostess provided us with a gift copy of the day's menu to commemorate the occasion.
I took my wife and she totally loved it !
We were a group of 18 people celebrating service anniversaries for 6 people how had a combined 200 years of service. The Green Room did an outstanding job by confirming our reservations prior to the event and even handled some last minute changes to the guest list. They seated us at one end of the room, respecting the privacy of the other lunch time guests and allowing us to share stories during lunch. Food was very good and considering the large group it came out in a very timely manner.
We have eaten at the Green Room at the Hotel DuPont many times and it has always been wonderful.Saturday night the food was outstanding. However, the service was very disappointing. We had to ask for bread and butter even though they had served the table right next to us and just walked right by us. The waiter finally brought wine after we had finished the appetizer course. He brought a different bottle of wine as the wine we had ordered was allegedly out of stock. It felt like classic bait and switch. He did not bring the wine list to let us make a new selection. The waiter also attempted to give us the bill before we were served our desserts. The service was not what that great hotel and restaurant prides itself on and usually delivers.
My wife and I tried the three-course prix fixe menu during Delaware Dines Out Week. The food was phenomenal as were the service and atmosphere. I highly recommend this restaurant.
I have no complaints regarding the food, the atmosphere or the excellent service. My only feedback is that the service was so efficient our dining experience was over in an hour. We had a party of 4 and the waiter was very attentive. It just seemed that we were being rushed out although there were many empty tables. We had no other plans and were not seeing a show downtown. We were not offered another drink and when we had coffee with our desserts, we were not offered a refill. I would have liked to linger and enjoy the ambiance but that was not to be. I know that there is a fine line between service and timing. I would think the Green Room has that figured out by now to give patrons a rewarding experience & great service.
As a lifelong Delawarean I had always dreamed of going to the Green Room of the Hotel DuPont but was concerned it may be too pricey. We took the opportunity of the Delaware Dine's Out $30 3 course meal specials and it was a wonderful dining experience. The food was delicious, the surroundings were elegant and beautiful and the service was great.
Our first visit to the Green Room on our 32nd wedding anniversary was extraordinary for both my husband and I. The century year old room wears its age with elegance and decorum. The wait staff attends to each patron as if he or she was lord of the manor. The menu offers a number of tempting choices and our selections were perfect. Beautiful and exciting way to enjoy a special occasion.
The green room never disappoints. It was wonderful as always, the food and service! We had a great time.
I celebrated my 30th work service anniversary with my husband and colleagues at The Green Room. Service was very good - wait staff was very attentive and professional - they made me feel very special. Additionally, the cuisine was simply fantastic & quite tasty (lunch menu). I look forward to returning to celebrate another milestone event!
At last a restaurant with a dress code! Aside from the excellent service and outstanding menu it was a pleasure dining where diners know his to dress.
Couldn't have been better! Outstanding atmosphere, food and service.
Had breakfast here for 2nd anniversary. Everything was great the staff were very attentive and made every effort to make sure our needs were met would go here again in a heart beat.
The food was delicious especially the oyster dish. The service was very very slow.
