The Green Room at HOTEL DU PONT Ratings and Reviews
The holiday brunch was as wonderful an experience for my family as I'd hoped it would be. The service was great, the decor was warm & welcoming, and it was the perfect ambiance for a special occasion. I wanted to treat my family to a special brunch before the Children's Theater performance nearby and we all just loved it.
Every course perfectly and creatively prepared. Menu selection was varied and fairly priced, as were wines. Attentive, professional service, and of course the rich, historic ambience of the room itself that is absolutely unique. When you want great food AND you want to dine in true style, the Green Room is still a unique experience, and overall a very good value.
The room was very classy. Well appointed art an drapery. High ceilings and burgundy accents complemented the room.
Our meal was very nice and well presented. Portions were just right which is a nice change from the huge portions most restaurants are serving. The pan seared scallops were perfect and the hit of our dining experience. The up charge for the veal was not worth it since it tasted bland and truthfully like I made it at home. Dessert was pleasant and again not over sized. The Short ribs were very good and the puree of butternut squash was delicious. Our waiter was very nice and the right amount of interaction.
Drinks were served welled and chilled.
My sister and I felt as if we were dining on location of our favorite TV show, Downton Abbey. The Green Room is exquisite, the food
excellent and prepared as ordered. And, above all, our server treated us as if we were royalty. What a wonderful birthday luncheon!
The Green Room is beautiful and a very special place to dine. My husband and I went there for lunch prior to an afternoon concert, and were a little surprised/disappointed in the small selection on the menu. The dinner menu is probably more extensive. The service was very efficient, but more effusive than I prefer. We would like to return for dinner sometime.
I typically visit the Green Room for breakfast or lunch with local attorneys or client meetings. The food is just average for breakfast and lunch. Nothing spectacular and out of the ordinary so I have not been too impressed thus far. BUT, my review of their dinner option is quite different. I decided to try the GR for a client dinner. The food was phenomenal, our waiter was knowledgeable and engaging and the dessert was beyond description. I highly recommend the Green Room for dinner as it will leave a favorable impression with your client, date or whomever. Absolutely worth the expense. The other options available in town can not match this experience. The experience as a whole was sublime.
Food was good and presentation adequate. Great wine list and decor. Nice ambiance. Service as ehh. There were 3 diners and the main course was served to the wrong persons. When I received the check the credit card bill was for a different amount. After dinner we sat talking for a while, we would have ordered another drink or water or coffee but no one ever came over again. During the meal the service was attentive but not overbearing.
The Green Room in the century-old Hotel Dupont lives up to expectations: dark wood paneling, 30-foot coffered ceiling, guilding all around with heavy draperies. Yes, go there because it's still one of the top ten hotel dining room interiors in the eastern US. But you won't be disappointed either by the kitchen: at our recent dinner, we had superb breads, delicious salmon and grouper with innovative accompaniments and desserts so beautifully crafted that we almost didn't want to eat them. THe Sunday brunch was equally excellent. Professional service. In sum: A fabulous interior with food to match and expensive but worth it!
It's just such a shame that this place cannot do a better job with the food. It is an ideal setting, with an attentive staff in a great easy access location. But the food is just so mediocre that we would recommend it to our foodie friends as a "place to be comfortable and quiet, with good cocktails and nice service - but don't expect the food to be up to par with the rest of the experience." Sorry... I wish it were otherwise because we would love it to be our "go to" spot before a show at the Grand.
We loved everything we ordered, but felt that it was very expensive for what we got. Portions were very small. Service was good and fast, which is great for the theater goers. We will definitely go back because there is nothing more convenient for the Dupont Theater AND it was stunningly beautiful. Also, we brought 2 teenagers with us, and they were pretty flexible with their ingredients! Thank you!
What a wonderful to way to spend a Thursday evening - dinner and the theater at the Hotel DuPont. It was very relaxing, incredible culinary foods and presentation. Those who served us certainly took care of us with just the right amount of attention and anticipation of our time frame to get to the show at 7:30 p.m. Everything was just wonderful!!
The food and presentation were truly superb and the chef is a genius with preparation and flavors. Our waiter Brandon was very knowledgeable and just all around outstanding. The whole staff were very attentive, friendly and professional. We were so impressed with dinner the first night that we immediately made reservations for the next night. Breakfast in the Green Room matched the excellent experience at dinner. One of our best dining experiences ever!
We treated a relative--and ourselves--to an evening at the Green Room. It is worth a visit for the setting alone--the hotel is an historic gem, and the restaurant is beautifully appointed. Our experienced server was efficient and personable. We enjoyed the wonderful jazz piano music played by Dennis Fortune from a balcony. At our request he descended during a break and was introduced to us by our kind server, who has been his friend for many years. We aren't wine drinkers, but observed that their list was outstanding. However, we do enjoy martinis, and the ones we ordered were generous in size and expertly prepared. The food was just right, and the desserts were heavenly. Highly recommended for special occasions!
The grand, hundred-year-old Green Room restaurant in the Hotel du Pont in Wilmington, DC, has never failed to please us, and that is a consistent record that goes back to August 1971. Live piano accompanied Sunday Brunch is a treat. Come very hungry and plan to be surprised by quality, presentation and ambiance.
The wait staff was terrific. She made sure that we had everything needed, including refills and more. She made suggestions as we ordered, and she was on target for us. We were greeted immediately and our occasion was recognized. The special dessert suited our occasion perfectly.
My wife and I went here for our anniversary and had a great experience. The atmosphere is very formal with an old fashion classic feel to it. The staff was attentive and helpful in explaining the items on he menu. I recommend he foie gras. My wife had his for her first course and when it came I tasted it and wished I had ordered it as well. For the main course I had the European chicken and my wife had the lobster and filet mignon. Both of which were cooked to a perfect temperature, and tasted outstanding. It is expensive but I would definitely return for another special occasion.
What more can a girl want then go to the Hotel dupont for a special birthday lunch with a friend? We enjoyed the special Centennial lunch there yesterday - 2 courses for $19.13 as part of the hotel's 100th anniversary celebration. I chose the tomato basil soup as my first course - and was so surprised to find a huge bowl of chilled tomato soup with small pieces of fresh vegetables and a scoop of basil sorbet in the middle of the bowl. My second course was a beautifully prepared piece of salmon with a yummy sauce and sauteed baby vegetables over black rice. Emily our waitress, surprised me with a beautiful chocolate torte cake for my birthday - complete with a lit candle! What a lovely gesture!
