The Green Bean Restaurant & Catering Ratings and Reviews
A girlfriend and I met for lunch and both had salads. My choice was the Cobb Salad which was massive and delicious. My girlfriend had the Caesar Salad with Blackened Chicken and spoke very highly of the dish. The Green Bean is a regular lunch location for me due to the fact that they consistently deliver high quality meals in a prompt manner allowing for the limitations of a normal 1 hour lunch timeframe.
It had been about a year since I went to the Green Bean. It used to be a place my colleagues and I could go and enjoy. What a total disappointment this meal was. The food quality has completely gone down hill to where I couldn't even finish my meal it was that unappetizing. Our server acted like any request was a huge imposition which did not help make the experience any better.
I will not be coming back here unless huge changes are made.
Definitely an off day for the chef, my hamburger that is supposed to be a "fresh ground" patty most certainly is not. Preformed and frozen....It was so hard I had to get it down with ketchup and my friends rice soup had brush bristles in it, she found 2. The service was good as usual and made up for the huge lack in food quality.
The Green Bean is my go to restaurant. You can always count on good food and professional service. They understand that it is lunch (or breakfast) so timings are great. The menu is varied and several new things on it now - the kale spinach salad with chicken is delish!
First time having lunch there for both myself and my colleague and we both agreed that we will definitely be coming back. It was ideal for a business lunch as it is spacious and quiet, with the tables spaced appropriately. The service was prompt and courteous and the food was excellent. Very good option for those who work downtown, but west of the "core" downtown area.
I eat at the Green Bean often and have recommended it to a few of my friends who work in the Downtown area. Their food is good but it would be nice to have 'smaller portions' for those of us who simply don't eat such huge portions. For example, I think it would be nice to have the option to get "one piece of Halibut" vs. two and pay for 'one piece' vs. for two. It would seem reasonable to do that for most of the sandwiches as well. The Roast Beef Dip is huge and again, one-half would be plenty for us women, and perhaps charge us one-half of the price. That is my only criticism for almost the restaurants in Calgary. We are an obese society so lets try and do something about it. Thanks.
It was very easy to book through Open Table. Would do it again in the future and also recommended it to some of my friends. I like The Green Bean as they offer a lot of healthy choices, the food is fresh and delicious. I liked wild salmon, spring shrimp rolls, and zucchini bites. Everything was very tasty. My friends ordered blackened salmon sandwich and liked it a lot as well. It was very nice to be on the patio as the day was sunny and warm, we enjoyed sitting there, although the environment there (outside, I mean) was very casual, did not feel like festive, but very enjoyable. Service was good, but not very fast. Probably because it was a lunch time and many people came at the same time. There were a few other dishes that I definitely would like to try, like staffed chicken breast with pear, so will leave them for the next time. I loved, that the salad option was included with every entry, no need to order a separate dish. The portions were pretty large and perfectly cooked. They also have an option for gluten free breads and can substitute sweet potato for white potato. We did not take any wine as it was a working day, but definitely try to take it when after work or on the weekends. Also, I liked The Green Bean's breakfast menu. Many choices and good value for the money. I try to avoid white breads, white rice, and potatoes, and they have many different options to substitute them, and still make a delicious meal. Would be nice if they could make pre-orders to avoid spending time waiting for the orders to come. As of now, there is some construction going on, so sitting at the patio can be a little noisy or even the view from the street is a little destructed, but the fresh air and sun overcomes that situation. Also, you can go inside and enjoy your dining being there. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone, and would come back myself as well. I heard also, that they have a Sunday Brunch, so would like to experience that as well soon. Enjoy!
I've been to the Green Bean several times for lunch, and I have always had excellent service. The food is pretty good - good quality ingredients, hot and quick - but not overly flavorful. The Fish and Chips is great, and the Guiness Stew is VERY FLAVORFUL. But the other items I (and my guests) have tried were bland and boring. I'm hoping there will soon be a change in menu with some more vibrant and exciting dishes. But please keep the stew and fish!
I really liked the menu here and the food was tasty, hot and as expected. This isn't a fancy place but more of a "home cooked" sort of atmosphere. I thought the soup my friend got was maybe a bit light for $8 but he said it was good, so I guess that is the important thing.
Had a work lunch for 2. My dish - mango chicken and chowder. Chicken was over cooked and the mash potatoes inedible (hard and cold). Service OL but didn't offer to make it right. Disappointing. I've eaten here often without any issues. I'll go again and hope to see improvements.
