The food and service are good, and reliable. There is a nice selection of fish, and many lamb dishes. The typical Greek appetizers are great to share.
The food was not up to our standard. I had sauteed chicken that was over cooked. My wife had chicken kebabs the had burned edges and also over cooked. The service was mediocre. The restaurant was full, maybe it was that they were over their head
We enjoyed a lovely dinner with friends. Sat on glass enclosed sidewalk area and It was quite pleasant. We were pleased with all our choices: stuffed grape leaves and hummus to start followed by seafood pasta, moussaka (one veg and one with meat) and the gyro platter . The sauvignon blanc was excellent. We will be returning next time we are in the area.
The food was average at best. There are much better Greek and Mediterranean restaurants.
Excellent food. Have the saganaki for an appetizer, fantastic! The homemade pita bread is outstanding. Entree favorites were the roast chicken in lemon sauce with roasted potatoes, and the vegetarian moussaka. Greek coffee completed our meal. The restaurant was outrageously busy because it was the night before Greek Easter, Holy Saturday. This restaurant is a very short stroll to Lincoln Center. Warm,
friendly management. Yassou, Maria!
Excellent no frills Greek food.
The service was friendly and attentive enough without being overbearing. The restaurant was also clean enough and one can easily converse in the dining room. The problem is the food. We shared grilled calamari for an appetizer. The wait staff said all fish was fresh and wonderful. The calamari was well cooked and tasty, if not creatively prepared at all. For main courses we ordered moussaka and stuffed peppers/tomatoes upon the waiter’s recommendation that both dishes were very fresh. The moussaka was not fresh but dry and warmed up. The meat filling was very meaty, dry and uninteresting. The peppers and tomatoes were so overcooked that the dish fell apart in mush on the plate. With the entrees they serve a salad. The salad was chopped iceberg lettuce with a few other things mixed in—not exciting and the salad dressing must have been a kitchen supply version of Italian Dressing. Needless to say, we will not be returning.
Food was good. Service excellent. Dolmades and lamb shank excellent.
I couldn't have been more pleased with my experience at The Greek Kitchen. I went there for dinner with a couple of friends and, although it was a Saturday night and the place was pretty busy, the service was prompt and the food came out pretty fast. We each ordered different dishes; I had the dorada fillet plate (amazing!! was melting in my mouth) and my friends had the lamb gyro plate and the Greek salad with added salmon fillet and they both enjoyed every single bite! All the food was super fresh and perfectly cooked and the portions were very generous (which is something that I'm always looking for -- who wants to leave from a restaurant felling hungry?? :) ).
I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who's looking for a cozy, casual and friendly place to enjoy the best that Greek cuisine has to offer!
We had a party of 6 and all of us LOVED the food and the restaurant.
This restaurant has very authentic Greek food it reminds me of the food my Aunt used to cook for us. This is the second time I have been to this restaurant. The service was attentive. The food was very good. We had the chicken with lemon potatoes, spanikopita, and moussaka. The only critique I have is that the baklava was not crispy. The creme caramel was creamy and tasty.
The food is great, reasonably priced. The staff is friendly and outgoing.
Food was bad, we literally ate charcoal fish. It was burned really bad.
Service was extremely slow and unfriendly. As a frequent diner i would not recommend this place.
Food was delicious and fresh. Hummus excellent as was the gyro platter! Service was very good. I recommend if you are in the mood for Greek!
Waitress messed up order, entrees never came after 40 minutes. Apps were good, but ended up eating a slice of pizza elsewhere for dinner. Embarrassed me in front of guests. Never again.
Great food great price enjoyed the classic Greek food partner had the whole bass fish which was outstanding
This place is solid. If you want good service, good/real Greek food in Hells Kitchen. This is the place for you.
A great choice if going to Lincoln Center; short walk but enough to make the crowd more neighborhood-like and prices/value good. Food and menu were very good and ambiance was very pleasant.
I feel bad but it was blandest food ever , 2 meals and fries all incredibly bland.
Good food, good service, comfortable seating., fair pricing. I love this place.
Meh. Food was good value, but unfortunately pretty mediocre. Service was quite good however.
Great choice for lunch before show at City Center theater. This is a hidden gem found when our daughter had a baby at hospital across the street. We did an amazing feast that night and lunch now was just as delicious with a great wait staff.
We have eaten here on numerous occasions since it is walking distance to Carnegie Hall. The food is excellent and the prices very reasonable. We have eaten in a more "upscale" Greek restaurant in Manhattan but the food here is better and cheaper. We have a Greek restaurant in my hometown and it is very good; but the Greek Kitchen is better. We will no doubt eat here on many other occasions.
good food with an interesting menu and friendly yet unobtrusive service. very convenient if going to John Jay for a concert or other event and easy to get to and from for the Upper West Side. it is such a pretty restaurant that that in and of itself would recommend it to anyone in search of a pleasant evening.
The restaurant is not pretentious. We had very good food, well presented. Plates are large. The wine list is very good, with several bottles at around $30. This is a popular neighborhood restaurant, well worth a stop.
The food was hugely disappointing. Two of us ordered mousakka which was mostly inedible. The bechamel was dried out atop a pile of meat and a slice of eggplant. This was all supported by a large greasy slice of potato. Huh? The oddest take on this dish ever. Also came tepid and we sent back to warm but never got the food back until we chased the waitress to get it. By then all the others in our party had finished their dinners. I’d say skip this one.
A great NYC Greek restaurant. The food was delicious but it was the staff that sets it apart from the rest. My wife fell outside the restaurant as it was closing. The waiters and Cook’s were leaving and saw what happened. They were so kind and concerned about my wife’s condition we had to come back the next night and try their food. It was delicious. Thanks Greek Kitchen for being great people!
Always good. Went there for brunch. Pleasant, comfortable, and always good and plentiful food.
The lukanikos used to be small thin sausages with visible pieces of orange rind; these look like lost kielbasa with red onion on top. The hummus was not creamy; I was expecting the tahini to be on top not mixed with the grainy looking hummus. The baklava was served as a large cold lump on the plate where-as it used to be 2 smaller pieces. Not as happy with the new chef.
High quality food with authentic greek ingredients. Great wine options too!
Great Greek cuisine at very moderate prices for a NYC establishment. The fish is expertly prepared and offered either whole or fillet. The zucchini chips served with tzasaki are a great starter and ample for sharing. Right on the corner of 58th and 10th Ave. it is ideal for dinner before going to Lincoln Center.
Very fresh fish simply prepared and delicious. Would definitely go again. Great spot!
Authentic Greek food. Great service and very tasty
Salad very good. Soup watery but tasty and warm on a cold day. Moussaka boring and under flavored and sparse bechamel. Baklava very cold but tasty
Much like eating at Yiayia’s . Authentic and very tasty.
I have been going to this place for years and although it is still good, it is has gone down a bit - the lentil soup is not not nearly as creamy as it used to be and is now more a cross with vegetable soup, and the pork meat in the souvlaki dish was pretty fatty. But I continue to enjoy the simple Greek homestyle food.
After living in Athens for three years, we know (and love) our Greek food, and this is really good, authentic Greek! Right down to the feel of the place. The people are lovely and low-key and go out of their way to make you happy and feel at home. I can see this becoming a regular gig - our go-to Taverna!
We have been to The Greek Kitchen many times and enjoy it tremendously. The food is always delicious and freshly prepared. Friendly and courteous service. A true gem in NYC.
Lovely little restaurant, good service and wonderful food.
Always delicious and fresh. Best Roasted potatoes in New York State. Starters are tasty as well. Good affordable wine selection.
