The Grant House Ratings and Reviews
We went for New year's Eve dinner. The menu was a price fix four course dinner with recommended paired wines. We opted for a couple of adventurous martinis instead, which were very good. The food and service were excellent. They provided New year's hats and an atmosphere that was both festive and romantic without being over the top.
We had Christmas Eve Brunch at the Grant House. The place looked festive, and the menu was interesting and the food delicious. My son was visiting from San Diego, and while we were there snow fell as we watched it come down in the garden adjoining the restaurant. Staff were very knowledgable about the items and drinks offered. A very pleasant occasion.
We have visited the Grant House before for dinner and find it delicious, however, on Christmas Eve morning, it was not up to par. The food, though good, lacked, well, food. For the extraordinary prices for breakfast, I was underwhelmed. By adding some fruit or toast, we would have felt like it was complete -- instead of going out for very early lunch as we were still hungry. I will go again someday, but not for breakfast.
My husband and I had a great lunch! The smoked roast beef sandwich was delightful. I don't eat bread so I took it off and put my farm greens on the roast beef. So delish! My husband said his double decker burger was awesome and he got tons of fries! I ordered farm fresh greens and was given fries instead, but no problem. They brought me my greens and gave me the coffee for no charge. Had a lovely time. Thank you Elijah and Liz for the gift card!! We will be going back for brunch in the very near future! Thanks Grant House!
I've went to the Grant House a couple times last summer, when there was outdoors seating. The menu, execution and service was GREAT. I thought it would be fun to try a holiday dinner with friends. The food was great, but the service was really pretty uneven. The waiter was nice, but was the only one there (a helper came later after our meals were served). Cocktails and even drinking water took 10-15 minutes to arrive. I don't know why the service was a problem. There were not more than 5-6 tables occupied; it seems that maybe there was another event earlier, because they were out of glasses and some things that seem pretty basic.
It was not an inexpensive dinner -- and the food was good. But the service was just not right. Maybe they should be closed on Mondays? I think I'll stick with lunch....
I plan to give this restaurant another chance because I think they were having an off night. We arrived a short time after a very large party which may have affected the wait time and the food arriving lukewarm. It's a beautiful space and I suspect the experience is usually better.
We chose the Grant House for a Saturday Brunch with friends. The house is very neat and filled with historic charm. Unfortunately the meal did not live up to the setting. The portions were so small for the price. $11 for two pieces of French toast. $6 for three tiny pieces off bacon. My wife's quiche and salad were equally small and over priced. We actually left there and went and had sushi.
We tried to come here one summer night and showed up right when they were getting ready to close. There were lots of people still eating and some who had just sat down. We were hoping to just have a drink but were told the bartender wasn't able to provide us with good service at the time so we couldn't stay. That sounds like a cop out for "we want to get out on time." The fact that we even came back again is a miracle.
Fell short on expectations. Despite not being busy and having reservations we still had to wait for a table.
We did have a nice table overlooking the patio. Our mussels appetizer was decent and with a good flavor but about 20% of the mussels were closed.
The kale salad was very small but tasty, would have liked a bigger portion for $8.
My friends osso bucco was awful. He said there was no flavor and it was seriously lacking seasoning. The greens on the side were drowned in liquid and garlic.
My salmon was ok but for $27 I was expecting something better.
Will not be back.
The food was ok, below value for the cost. The service was very good, but the cost was high for what you got. Also the French toast came drenched in syrup which made it impossible to eat, saggy and to sweet. We were told that we had to ask for it on the side if we wanted it that way.
Food was burnt and under cooked. What a disappointment. For $125.00 I expected much more. Do not eat here, you will be disappointed. The manager offered for me and my girlfriend to come back, on the house and I refused. That is how bad this place is. The staff even noticed how burnt the food was burnt. This place sucks. I would not take a goat to eat at this place.
We went for brunch & decided on breakfast items. I ordered over easy eggs & bacon. I made a point to specify to our waitress that the egg yokes MUST be runny. When she brought our plates it was beyond obvious both egg yokes were hard!! I sent them back and now had to wait while my wife began eating so her food would not cool. The waitress brought my breakfast a second time and the egg yokes were half hard! I wanted to eat with my wife, so I accepted them. What is the matter with the waitress and cook staff that a simple request for runny egg yokes cannot be carried out (even the second time)?? I, as an amateur, could have prepared those eggs properly. We thought the food offerings were over-priced and combined with a complete lack of fulfilling a simple food preparation request leads us to not return for breakfast or brunch. Possibly we will try Happy Hour.
I met for breakfast a cousin I hadn't seen for a year or two. The staff were very sensitive to our need to catch up before turning our attention to the menu. The wait staff described excellently the dish my cousin was interested in. We both cleaned our plates so her food must have been as delicious as mine!
We were there for my husbands birthday. We did mention to our server, but she didn't really care. We were there for about one and half hours, our server only show up three times. It was a pity that the place and food were actually good, but lack of good service!!
