Nice place for lunch in any season. Menu at lunch is limited but very good, with housemade ingredients such as smoked trout. Also has a full bar with some good house cocktails. Lots of free parking and a nice place for a stroll before or after a meal.
There must have been a bit of confusion. I had made reservations through "Open Table" and mentioned that there was a birthday in our party. When my parents arrived, they also said their was a birthday person in our party. I think the information never got to the waitress because nothing special happened. We did not think of this until after we paid so we did not ask about it. Too bad :(
We've been looking forward to having dinner here. Unfortunately it was a disappointment. Service was not efficient or friendly, food options were limited and not tasty, and it was too loud for conversation. It was overpriced for the food not being good. It's a great building and I've been there for private functions that were well done.
Walter was wonderful. Friendly, easy to talk to, and sees to your culinary needs. Very knowledgeable. Ask for a Grant House tour. So much history there. We will be back soon. Delish!
Went for a girlfriend birthday lunch. Food choice was limited but very good. Service was nice and we liked being in the home environment however it was a little chilly after sitting next to a window for an hour. The bar area looked nice and they also have banquet facilities. Cool being in an older home!
Wasting a beautiful location on mediocre food fancily presented. Grating background music does not fit the setting. The coffee is good though.
In the past, a favorite. The food was terrible and the menu was very unappealing . Sorry , but will not be back soon.
We went to Sunday Brunch at the Grant House this last weekend. The food was melt-in-your-mouth good and we would highly recommend it to anyone who appreciates great dinning. The Fried Chicken and Waffles was wonderful, and my husband's Steak and Fresh Vegetable Salad was perfect. We enjoyed great wine and a conscientious and friendly waiter. It was not cheap, but it was worth every penny.
I've eaten here several times in the past. This last visit was not up to the standard of previous visits: 1) the online menu at the website differed from the menu on the premises (trout on the website menu but not at the restaurant and also true with 2 other menu items), 2) the food was prepared (salmon) without asking how the guest desired preparation (e.g., if I ordered a steak I might want it medium but my companion may prefer it rare, fish should be prepared to order just like steak) but we were not asked how it we would like it prepared. Consequently, although edible for one, it was not cooked well enough for the other, 3) although we did not want any dessert, we were not asked if we wanted a dessert or what the options were if we had a desire for dessert. That is so different from what has been our experience in the past.
Everything was excellent! It was a great place for a first date. The service was outstanding.
This place is amazing! We've lived in the area for 7 years but have never went. Finally went for my birthday, and it was perfect! Chef feast was amazing. Only thing to make it better is to pair each course with wines. Great food, awesome staff. We'll be back!
Really wonderful ambiance with a great historical flare. Server shared some history with us and was very attentive during the meal. Great food was just a bonus!
This was our first visit under the new ownership. It is quite different from the previous owners. We will be returning. Our one visit was not enough to determine if the new owners are good or bad but is was good enough to return again.
My fiance and I visited for a post-valentines date night and were somewhat disappointed.
Good points - The interior decoration was attractive and romantic. Our server was friendly and unobtrusive. The brussels sprouts appetizer was very tasty!
The not so good - our cocktails were quite mild, our entrees were attractive but not that great to eat. I had the smoked pork shoulder/belly but without any sauce it was very dry and heavy. My fiancee had the salmon and found it was quite bland. For the price, I was expecting the food to wow me.
We were disappointed as we didn't realize that they don't serve breakfast any more on work days. We were primed for a very good breakfast and ended up with soup and sandwich. Even though the food was good, it was a let down. The service was fine. It was cold in the dining room as they had just opened and had had the front door standing open on a cold day. It took a while to warm up.
I had remembered the delightful breakfasts of the past and should have called to find out the menu rather than making an assumption. I need to find another breakfast place for weekdays.
Service was a bit sloppy. May have been busy and unprepared for the Valentines crowd. Unorganized crew brought out a random welcoming appetizer with no explanation only to be followed by another of the same by a different crew member. Told at one point that they were waiting on wine glasses because they didn't have any clean/ready to go at the time. For a 3 course $50/ person meal I expected high standards. They failed at that, but we will definitely go back because the location and views are 1 of a kind.
Have been there 4 years in a row for Valentine's dinner. Each time has been a excellent experience. Staff is always courteous and food always great. Like trying some of the unique dishes that you can't find at other restaurants
This was our first time here!
The Staff were very friendly
We had two Specialty handcrafted drinks they were delicious! Our food was extraordinary you could certainly tell that they took time preparing . We can’t wait to return! Going to tell all my Friends and Family what a Great Restaurant we found!
Thank you The Wilson’s
Food was good, was disappointed the main difference between the medium plate and large plates were only circumference, and not portion. The highlight of our eating experience was undeniably the staff that was attentive to our needs and desires.
The food was amazing! The staff was exceptional. First time coming here and definitely will be back!
First time @ Grant House. You can see the history of the House. Convenient parking . Seated warmly & quickly.
Server extremely personable and attentive. Manager checked in too and a nice conversation followed.
Food distinctive artistic & tasty.
Will return to Grants House.
Another place I love. Great historic local and great food. Love to be on the veranda in summer.
We went for lunch and to meet a long-time friend. My lunch was very average. My fish was overcooked, the cole slaw so full of mustard that I couldn't eat it; the fries were lack-luster.
My companions have the tomato soup/grilled cheese sandwich entree. They were very pleased with their lunches. Very positive comments about the bread used for their sandwiches. As we left we commented on another table's desserts. They were eating bread pudding and raved about their choice!
We were especially impressed by the attention given by the manager/owner. He stopped by our table to inquire about the food. We also discussed the dinner menu offerings which included small bites. The cheese/meat board looked great! All you needed to do is to add a glass of wine and you would be set for a great snack/light dinner.
We will be back to try out the new menu.
Would certainly come again and recommend to others....making Officer's Row come alive to the public! Well done in all ways.
Delicious food and great service. Highly recommend this place!
Recommend highly. Great dinner. Nicely done.
Birthday celebration with 8 people. Had great service and food was well-done!
Excellent food & staff.
Read "Grant" and then eat at his posting prior to the Civil War.
The ambiance and service were great. Unfortunately, the food is just ok and the menu, even for dinner at this restaurant, is limited. We enjoyed happy hour on the porch last summer but the food was just average. Portions were not large.
For brunch on this occasion, we shared the salmon hash and both of us had trouble finding the salmon. The dish had a good flavor, but where was the salmon? The French toast was delicious, but for the price one would anticipate something else on the plate, perhaps a bit of fruit. The grapefruit mimosa was a hit.
I desperately want this restaurant to be better than average as the setting is one I enjoy a lot. The porch or patio on a summer day is the best seat in Vancouver.
First visit since ownership changed. Very impressive meal and fantastic service! We will return and bring friends, thank you!
We have eaten at the Grant House before, and it was great as always. It is one of our go-to choices for a nice dinner out in Vancouver. We especially love the location and the historic building.
Friendly staff , historic and beautifully maintained historic fort. Lovely grounds nd enjoyable area. Good food. Cute bar. Nice outdoor seating areas (tho we sat inside).
Food is always wonderful. Even better after new leadership has taken place.
The perfect way to begin the New Year! Our server was great - patient and accommodating. The entire experience was outstanding. Thank you!
The food tasted good the employees were pleasant and seem to try to make things work but not the experience or service we were use to at the Grant House especially for $227.00.
We went for New year's Eve dinner. The menu was a price fix four course dinner with recommended paired wines. We opted for a couple of adventurous martinis instead, which were very good. The food and service were excellent. They provided New year's hats and an atmosphere that was both festive and romantic without being over the top.
The food was disappointing. My meat and vegetables were over done.
My wife's white meat in the sauce was great but the dark meat was way to salty.
We ate upstairs because the bar/lounge was way too noisey.
Overall not what we looking for our anniversary.
We had Christmas Eve Brunch at the Grant House. The place looked festive, and the menu was interesting and the food delicious. My son was visiting from San Diego, and while we were there snow fell as we watched it come down in the garden adjoining the restaurant. Staff were very knowledgable about the items and drinks offered. A very pleasant occasion.
We have visited the Grant House before for dinner and find it delicious, however, on Christmas Eve morning, it was not up to par. The food, though good, lacked, well, food. For the extraordinary prices for breakfast, I was underwhelmed. By adding some fruit or toast, we would have felt like it was complete -- instead of going out for very early lunch as we were still hungry. I will go again someday, but not for breakfast.
My husband and I had a great lunch! The smoked roast beef sandwich was delightful. I don't eat bread so I took it off and put my farm greens on the roast beef. So delish! My husband said his double decker burger was awesome and he got tons of fries! I ordered farm fresh greens and was given fries instead, but no problem. They brought me my greens and gave me the coffee for no charge. Had a lovely time. Thank you Elijah and Liz for the gift card!! We will be going back for brunch in the very near future! Thanks Grant House!
