The Eatery at Grant House is in transition right now. There is a new chef, new servers, and new manager. Service was slow (understaffed), chef hasn’t found his stride yet, but the manager recognized the issues and was on top of the situation. For years the Grant House has been designated as a great dining destination. I’m sure the issues will be worked out. Kaci (manager) is very proactive. We will be back. The food eventually was very good.
Beautiful setting. We sat outside for lunch on a lovely summer day. Only complaint was the airport noise. Nice selection of food choices. Lunch was really not equivalent to the setting, but the dessert was excellent. Would like to try an evening meal.
Been there several times. Summer deck dining the Best! I’m 27 year retired military so the view of parade field and the landscaping are fantastic. Could expand the menu some!! The hanger steak was good and replaced by Ulysees , also good, but why not both? More like almond chicken breast and shrimp and scallop meals, maybe added. The Maryhill wine there now, good! The gal hostess was great! We enjoy it there!
It's pleasant to sit outside on a nice sunny day. It's very quiet place. The food is great, and they have vegetarian options.
Perfect for a nice lunch with my team. The outdoor patio setting was ideal, and the service was fantasic (thanks, Dylan!). We enjoyed a tasty lunch and dessert. The only drawback was limited food options for the vegetarian on our team, but she was still happy with her entree.
The restaurant was as expected a lovely fine dining establishment. The food was well presented, the service was attentive.
Very nice. Good food and good service. Love the area, such good views.
Our food was fantastic and our server was knowledgeable, friendly, and prompt. We sat outside on the veranda and had a lovely lunch.
There was no dressing on the ceasar salad, had to ask for two extra bowls. It was so dry I thoguht they totally forgot to put ANY on the salad. Portion sizes are very small especially biscuits and gravy, the sausage ordered was a patty and not links, and the biscuit was hard. The eggs bemedict egg was hard boiled and not cooked properly. A total disappointment
Great food and feel for the place. Had a good order messed up but the staff took care of it quickly and we had a great lunch. We will be back.
Had an excellent Sunday brunch here. Wonderful outdoor dining, excellent menu.
Yes with the following caveats. French Toast was good but too big and crusty. Smoke Trout Hash was excellent but would like a little more trout. Chicken and Waffles were great. As for service, took a while to be waited on even for water. After receiving our drinks, she never checked back on us to see that she brought the wrong coffee drink until the meal arrived. I ordered a Bloody Mary, she asked me what brand of vodka I wanted, not saying it would be extra. When the bill came, the menu vodka was 9.00 but my charge total 13.00. She didn’t really explain why very well and the check showed 11.00 for vodka and 3.00 for Bloody Mar mix. She did offer to do something but just decided not to return. Thanks
I think the ambiance goes a long way here. I think the food--cheeseburgers and the meat platter were good but not outstanding. I would recommend this restaurant for the fact that it is in a great location and has wonderful historical significance. The food has improved since being there last July 2018, and that's good news! I think the effort should be in perfecting the menu and making a higher level of food quality to match the ambiance/location.
I loved the whole experience! We happened to get there on a Friday night where they have live music from 3-6pm. It was very good. The food was amazing and worth the cost! All was fresh and prepared by their own chef. The steak and salmon were tender and savory and the hummus! They had the most delicious pitas with the best hummus I ever had. The artichokes, veggies and cheese were great additions. The loose tea was top quality. The self guided tour was a great idea! I wasn't intrigued by the ghost story, but otherwise, loved the history and important details that were highlighted.
I understand the menu changes regularly and would love the opportunity to check it out again!
Great service! We only had some appetizers but they were good!
Gorgeous setting and attentive staff. I greatly appreciate a place that has some taste and serves chilled water without ice - thank you! Tuna sandwich was really under seasoned, however.
We have been to brunch here on the weekends and really LOVED it - but the lunch selections were not very interesting and, in some cases, not well executed. The reubens were dry and didn't have much meat and the salads were dressed so lightly that one had to search for a bite with any hint of dressing. Several salads had items that were described on the menu but left off of the salads when they came.
This is one of two brunch places I like to visit when in Vancouver. This time, my friend ordered the chicken fried steak, and I had the avocado toast with a side of bacon. The chicken fried steak was served with a biscuit, and presented in a small cast iron skillet. I was surprised that it did not come with hash browns, but there was probably only room for the steak, biscuit, and gravy. I think I would have served the biscuit on the side with jam along with a little fruit. Also, my avocado toast would have been lonely without the bacon, which was laid across the top and also (unfortunately) drizzled with balsamic. It was a large plate for a single large toast. I think two smaller pieces with a little fruit on the side would have been a better presentation. Still, the service was sunny, and the food tasty. We love this venue and will return.
Great food, great service in an historical building. Not sure I rated the noise level accurately. It's a quiet place.
Initial server made experience awkward with sarcasm. One item ordered was not made correctly (missing crucial part) and we weren't offered compensation.
I am sorry that you had a less then enjoyable time with us. I would like to speak to you more about your recent experience with us. Please contact me directly at email@example.com . Thank you in advance
So lovely to be where the Grant House is located. New menu and new employees. Great service and the food was deliscious.
Thank you Leslie, See you again soon
Grant House not only managed to present a meal option for a "no salt" member of the party, but also for a "no sugar" member, while satisfying the two carnivores. Service was very prompt for a Sunday brunch with many diners outside. Food was excellent, one member stated best waffle she has ever had.
That was amazing!!! Great service, food and setting. The only downside was not seeing the owner I went to high school with. Super job Scott!!
The Grant House is always special. We take friends from out of town there to enjoy the great food and the history. We love this place.
My friend & I met for lunch. We sat outside on the deck & were served by a friendly & gracious staff, I will return soon
We look forward to your return so we can serve you again
Bright, beautiful historic home. Friendly, prompt service. Delicious food beautifully presented. We will definitely go back!! Totally worth the cost for fine dining. Thank you so much for making our evening perfect!
Great Father’s Day Brunch
Everything was wonderful except we ate outside and there needs to be cousins on the chairs. No complaints about anything other then the seats. I will definitely be back.
A little disorganized to begin with, but improved. Overall good service.
Had a wonderful Father's Day brunch on the front porch. We started with very well prepared Bloody Marys and then had the smoked trout hash with eggs, etc. Delicious and also gluten free so my wife could enjoy it as well. Between the quality food and the ambiance of the Grant House, this is one of the nicest places to dine in Vancouver.
Prices a little high for brunch menu and I felt more options would be nice---especially a la carte offerings.
Great location but very poor service and food. Waitress could have been dressed to fit location and not wearing jeans and a pony tail. Did not appreciate having a golden retriever dog at the location and walking around while we were dining. Food was not matching the price value.
We had a most delightful afternoon on the front porch, having lunch with friends and enjoying the beautiful setting and amazing food! We WILL be back!
The Eatery at the Grant House is housed in a beautiful Victorian era house in Fort Vancouver, Vancouver, WA. The place is beautiful; decor, gardens, ambiance, etc. The food is another issue. It's just mediocre at best and it comes at prices that don't reflect the quality. The coffee is actually embarrassing. With the great coffee served all around the area, including Portland just a few miles south, it should be excellent, but tepid, bitter, poor quality coffee at $5 a cup it's not acceptable. They also have very few vegetarian options.
The music was also unacceptable. Bad quality pop should never be played, particularly when the majority of the customers are willing to spend more for a lovely eating experience and happen to be 40+. I truly hope they fix all these kinks, as I would like to go back there to enjoy dining in the beautiful surroundings.
We had a delightful brunch & visit with old friends. Great food, pleasant surroundings. Thank you, we'll be back .
Our waiter was excellent and worked very hard to make the experience good. However, the restaurant has a new head chef, and the food was of poor quality, poor preparation and poor presentation. An embarrassing decline since we last fined there two years ago; embarrassing because we recommended it and arranged. For example, two of us ordered Reuben sandwiches which was, of course, described as corned beef. What we were served was over-cooked roast beef that was very fatty. I pulled my sandwich apart and trimmed away approximately 25% of the contents. We were not cautioned that it would not be corned beef when we placed our order. Further, fish and chips was a large soup bowl of French fries with 3 fried chunks of fish crammed into middle.
Sunday Brunch Delight. Ate indoors. Great menu selection. Still talking about it today. Service was timely. Food tasty. Only downside was the menu changes. The kitchen was out of dungeness crab for the crab sandwich. We were offered a ham substitute, but the price was still going to be for the crab. We opted for cod sandwich instead. Definitely will return.
Thank you for your review Carrie, we are working on finding a vendor that can get us crab again. I am glad that you enjoyed the cod though. You will need to try our clams and chorizo next. Oh so good, (served during dinner)
Took them 25 min to take our order. Waitress did not have a welcoming disposition. No smiles at all. Charged us full price for Dungeness crab Benedict even though they were out of crab and replaced it with ham. Overall not happy with the experience.
Dear anonymous, I am sorry that you were not happy with your last visit. Please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org. I would like to speak with you about your last visit.
As most people have noted before, our service was slow and I wonder if they were short staffed. I had called and asked for a special table given that we were celebrating two special occasions; it didn't happen. We began to joke about the service: "do you think they had to kill the cow before they could cook our steak?" "They must be churning the cheese for the mac & cheese." etc. We were not in a hurry but even leisurely dining deserves some food now and then. Bread isn't provided. Wait staff kept apologizing for the delay, so they are very aware of how slow they are. If this restaurant is to succeed, they will have to speed up the service. The food was all very good.
Thanks for letting us know where we fell short on your visit. We were not prepared for the extra walk in's we had due to a fire in another restaurant that had to shut down for the night. This is not an excuse, just the facts. I am glad that you enjoyed the food. Please give us another try, I know you will be pleased.
Service was incredibly slow, and inattentive. Calamari Appetizer was great, the risotto and ragu lacked flavor.
Ambiance saved the meal with a stunning patio and gorgeous evening.
