The Grand Marlin of Pensacola Beach Ratings and Reviews
Grand Marlin is unparalleled in terms of its sophisticated yet beachy ambiance. The food has always been great in the past and was tasty on this occasion however my wife and I both got some kind of GI bug....that I attribute to GM because we had not eaten together earlier in the day. Nevertheless I intend to return in the future.
We dined there New Year's Eve and were seated in the bar area which was incredibly noisy. We asked the hostess to move us because we hated the table. She was very nice and accommodated us by moving us to a large dining room in the rear of the restaurant that we assumed is typically a private dining area. The service was excellent as was the food. We had a very memorable holiday weekend in Pensacola Beach that wouldn't have been complete without our trip to the Grand Marlin. It is by far the nicest restaurant on the island.
This is one of our go to restaurants when we want a nice, casual meal. It is always consistently good and the menu is always changing to take advantage of local finds. My husband forgot his credit card there so we went back the next day to get it and had their brunch! That's how much we like the Grand Marlin.
The Grand Marlin was very highly recommended to me by my best friend. I took my family -- and one very special guest -- there for a Saturday lunch special occasion. The occasion was to meet the young man dating my daughter. I had chosen the "inside dining" option, since it was COLD outside, not realizing that "outside" was enclosed and heated or cooled (depending on season). The ambiance turned out to be perfect for the occasion, as "inside" meant quiet and comfortable where we could converse and hear each other, though with a lesser view on the Gulf. The surroundings are elegant, well appointed, and set everyone at ease. We were able to meet this young man in a relaxed and comfortable setting, enjoy good food, and superb service. (Note: Our server's name was Jason). We drove from the Ft. Walton Beach area for this family moment. I highly recommend the Grand Marlin for any special occasion, or just a quiet escape with someone special. This was a solid five star experience.
The fried calamari was mostly fried onions, peppers and pickles. It doesn't include the typical red sauce for dipping, it had green advacado sauce instead.
The red snapper was good, slightly dry.
The scallops could have used more bold flavoring.
Mashed potatoes were really good.
Waitress left us waiting at the end of the meal for what felt like 15 minutes, guess she forgot about us. We were about to get up and find someone to bring our check right as she came back by.
This place never disappoints. The quality and taste of the food is amazing. There was a Christmas party going on in the dining room, but the wife and I were able to talk easily with a slightly louder than normal ambience. The service was awesome as usual and we even received an unexpected surprise from the restaurant for our anniversary. We had crab claws for appetizers, seared red snapper and crab cakes for our entrees, and signature praline basket. All amazing! This place is great for special occasions or just grabbing a bite of quality food and service. I love this place!
Food was great. Raw oysters as an app, fried shrimp as a meal, and red snapper as my meal. I requested the mashed potatoes held and extra green beans to take their place. Food delivered by not our waitress, with mashed potatoes and green beans, while we were still eating the raw oysters. Our waitress came to the table after I moved the aluminum pan of ice and oyster shells to another table and cleaned up the condensation which leaked onto our table. I pointed the potatoes out to her. She apologized and asked if I wanted more green beans. She brought another small plate of them , which I consumed. The potatoes were left on the original plate. I believe she was the only waitress working, and was very pleasant. Today, I looked at my receipt, and was surprised to see I was charged $4.00 for a side order of green beans. I hope this is not indicative of usual experience. I assure you, I will share my experience with my friend who has been recommending I eat at your establishment. I would have given the experience 4 stars based on the food and location.
2 of us had the Grouper Piccata & the third ordered the pork shank. All the dishes were excellent. If you want fresh fish, this is the place. It was our go-to restaurant for Red Snapper this past summer. If we have a special occasion, we always go to the Grand Marlin. It is one of the few restaurants that still offer a free birthday dessert--no questions asked. This visit, we dined on a Monday night during off season, so the restaurant was quiet and relaxing. I typically rate the service outstanding as well. The server this time was a bit too anxious to clear away our plates and drinks. He asked each time, except for the wine sample. He should have been a a little more patient. But he was certainly attentive.
