The Grand Marlin of Pensacola Beach Ratings and Reviews
2 of us had the Grouper Piccata & the third ordered the pork shank. All the dishes were excellent. If you want fresh fish, this is the place. It was our go-to restaurant for Red Snapper this past summer. If we have a special occasion, we always go to the Grand Marlin. It is one of the few restaurants that still offer a free birthday dessert--no questions asked. This visit, we dined on a Monday night during off season, so the restaurant was quiet and relaxing. I typically rate the service outstanding as well. The server this time was a bit too anxious to clear away our plates and drinks. He asked each time, except for the wine sample. He should have been a a little more patient. But he was certainly attentive.
Great local, fresh fish dishes. The fried lobster appetizer was tender and had a very good savory sauce that complimented the shellfish without overwhelming the flavor. The entire table was satisfied with their choices from the fresh redfish to the cioppino.
The menu has marked items gluten free and I ordered the Scottish Salmon but my Nima detected gluten. The manager came over and asked “Did you order it gluten free”? Insinuating it was my fault it wasn’t ordered that way.
I explained to him the menu was not marked “can be gluten free if ordered that way”. He didn’t understand what gluten would have done to someone with Celiacs. Nor did he apologize for the mixup.
The food was fantastic...except for the pecan pie which was very very dry and had way too many pecans. I know that sounds odd but pecan pie is supposed to have some caramel and this was like a pie crust filled with toasted pecans and a little syrup on them. The service was great and I can’t say enough good things about the rest of our meal. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to friends and family.
This was our second Thanksgiving at Grand Marlin Pensacola and it was even better than last year! It was so cozy and we felt welcomed by our amazing server, Gina. We were seated at 4:30 and greeted by the gorgeous sunset view. We had the kale caesar and swordfish with mashed potatoes and green beans. Everything was cooked perfectly. Such a lovely evening!
I was rather disappointed with our Thanksgiving meal. The cornbread stuffing tasted like sawdust.... very grainy. I got a thimble size portion of cranberry relish and when I asked for more, I was told they didn’t have any more!!!! This was at 4 pm and they were open for several more hours!!!
This is not the norm for Grand Marlin and I was thoroughly disappointed with my Thanksgiving meal.
We frequently visit Pensacola Beach & have always enjoyed the local atmosphere. We were having a small family celebration & had several friends recommend the Grand Marlin. Having never been there before, we did not really know what to expect, but based on the pricing we dressed very nice for a great evening out. Our dining area was the equivalent of a covered patio. It was loud & dimly lit. The food was absolutely outstanding! As we were leaving I went to the restroom & there on the other side of the restroom I saw an entrance to a true upscale restaurant. It wasn't busy, so I'm not sure why we were not seated there to begin with, but I know I will be requesting the actual dining room next time. Great food & good service.
This was my second time to have lunch at The Grand Marlin. Both were business lunches and both were very good. Atmosphere, service, and food were great. Menu had a variety of fresh seafood items to choose from. Even saw a few dolphins in the bay. Will definitely dine here again.
