The Grand Marlin of Pensacola Beach Ratings and Reviews
This was my second time to have lunch at The Grand Marlin. Both were business lunches and both were very good. Atmosphere, service, and food were great. Menu had a variety of fresh seafood items to choose from. Even saw a few dolphins in the bay. Will definitely dine here again.
I visited on a Sunday evening with a friend celebrating a personal achievement. The food and service (provided by Malia) was excellent. The otherwise perfect evening was marred by two occurrences that were entirely avoidable. First, when we checked in for our reservation, the hostess walked us through a half empty restaurant and tried to seat us behind a pillar out of view of the dining room, next to the kitchen door. Second, after we paid our bill and made our way home, we received an email from Open Table informing us that the restaurant had reported us as no-shows. When I called the restaurant, Emily the hostess said she would fix it and then Lonnie, the manager on duty, hopped on the phone and said there was nothing he could do to fix the situation. No apology.
My boyfriend and I came here for our 7 year anniversary and it was spectacular! I wish I could remember our waitress’ name because she was awesome :) I got the salmon and he got the scallops special. Both were incredible. You never know what you’ll get with more expensive places, especially in a tourist area- but Grand Marlin was definitely worth every dollar.
We were celebrating our Anniversary, first time here. Everything was good but I think they need to shorten the menu and the servers greetings to explain the specials were too long. I can't imagine having to explain the 5 min specials along with daily specials and chef specials to every table. I would be exhausted by the first one. Beautiful ambience, a little loud for a date night. Overall all ok.
The food is amazing, seafood is very fresh, prepared nicely with a flare ! Wonderful staff that is trained well and knows how to direct you on choices to meet your palate! The location is perfect for bay view or nice ambiance inside. The BBQ Shrimp is a must have! Oysters are phenomenal as well as the jalapeño coleslaw just to mention a few favorites!
Excellent service! The food was wonderful, as was the view of the harbor and the island. The noise was loud due to the cavernous dining room, so table conversation was a bit harder to hear, but not too loud to where shouting was needed. It did detract a bit from the experience, as it was not the "quiet cozy date" I was planning on, but it may have again been our seating. Our server Ramon offset that with his experience in wines and the food choices. Fantastic! Will be returning.
The Grand Marlin, located just over the Bob Sikes Bridge on the way to Pensacola Bridge, is set right on the bay with great views. The bar and outside dining area are open in the summer and closed off in the winter when the weather is not so good. The inside areas are comfortable and fairly quiet but with atmosphere. The food is prepared fresh daily. I mean the staff writes a new menu daily under direction of the chief chef. The oysters on the half shell are fantastic, the fish fresh and delicious, and the desserts excellent. You can expect to drop $$$$ but well worth it. We go 2-3 times a year.
My daughter and I had girls night and it was wonderful! It was our first time in Pensacola... this was the best dinner all week! We shared lobster bisque which was wonderful and she had grouper piccata and I had blackened red snapper with mustard creole sauce and both were amazing! The grouper piccata was very large! Perfectly cooked. Good wine. Our server, Jacob, was great... very accommodating, knowledgeable, very prompt, could not have had better service! If you visit Pensacola you cannot miss dinner at The Grand Marlin!
We went here to celebrate our anniversary. Great wine selection. We had a smoked tuna dip with crackers, tomatoes and cucumbers. Very tasty. For dinner I had the grouper which our server told us is a top seller. It was Delicious! When we made our reservation with opentable I commented that we were celebrating our anniversary... Our server surprised us with a very pretty and yummy dessert. We enjoyed this place soooo much on Friday night.... We returned Sunday morning for brunch. Didn’t disappointment!
This is by far my favorite restaurant. However I have been let down by their prime rib....twice. No flavor, not cooked to my preference, and unpleasant presentation. Looked like a beginner put it together as prime rib water logged on top of mashed potatoes.
Don’t like their ‘happy hour’ policy that you have to physically go to bar to get your own drink if you want discount, otherwise you pay full price. Not fair to servers and they are very unhappy with the restaurant’s policy because it is taking money away from them. We discussed this issue with the manager and he said the restaurant had no plans to change this ridiculous policy.
We had such a great anniversary date night. The service was the best I’ve ever had and the food was delicious. We enjoyed the great wine and scotch selections. We will go back for another date night. It was a little pricey for a every week meal but perfect for our date.
We selected a great fresh seafood meal while sitting outside and enjoying a beautiful October evening. We have eaten at Grand Marlin many times, and the food is consistently good. This particular evening we had the red snapper which was a treat because it is not available for much of the year. It was prepared perfectly, and the whipped potatoes and veggies were delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant, but a reservation is recommended because it is a popular place to eat.
Terrific restaurant experience. All of the entrees were delicious. The fried cod was covered in a malt vinegar reduction and fresh and flavorful. The key lime lobster was savory and perfectly paired with creamy mashed potatoes. The only let down was the key lime pie itself. There are plenty of other better places for a slice of key lime, but the rest of the food was truly top notch. Would highly recommend this restaurant.
GM is our “go-to” restaurant on P’cola Beach, especially on Sundays. Normally very consistent, last Sunday it just didn’t live up to our expectations. Not bad but not great. Our fav dishes are the Salmon and the Prime Rib. And they may have the best oysters in our area. We’ll definitely be back. They were just a little off last Sunday.
