matsutake mushrooms in duck fat emulsion was beautiful -- unami, great acid, texture. chef is a straight up genius; super creative. highly curated beer list. worth a significant detour.
Arrived on time for our reservation and were told we would have to wait 15 minutes for a table so that our server would not be too busy.
Food - so so. Brisket was undercooked and under seasoned. Pulled pork was over cooked. They refused to sub slaw for potato salad even though they offer the slaw on other dishes.
Seems like they are they are trying to be upscale and exclusive without any reason to do so.
The Granary is one of my favorite Pearl Brewery restaurants. They have their own take on comfort food. It is all done very tastefully, with great presentation, some molecular gastronomic techniques and a nice variety of courses. Their beer is top notch. They have a microbrewery and great wine selections. There are mainstays on the menu, but every so often a new addition or adaptation of a current dish shows up. Their food is almost always very well prepared and they take time to explain the ingredients and even prep techniques with each item you order.
I wanted to mention this as an aside. It covers attention to detail and considerate behavior. You have to read it all the way through to realize it is actually a compliment. They have bright LED’s on lamps hanging from the wall in the first dining area to the left of the entrance when walking into the restaurant. I have a scar on my right cornea from a childhood injury which creates a lot of light scatter with bright lighting especially downlighting. This is a common occurrence in many mid-range to chain spots like cold rooms, neither of which I will never understand. I guess most humans love bright lights; maybe they are afraid of the dark, but there is a reason fine dining restaurants, eateries and restaurants rarely have bright lighting shooting towards you like a spot light. I understand the need to not make establishments too comfortable to facilitate quick turnover (don’t agree with it though), but I will say this about The Granary: The manager will usually find a way to accommodate customers like me by figuring out how to change the beams direction or turn off the light. That really goes a long way. I’m no wimpling by any stretch of the imagination, but bright lights in my eye makes it very distracting and uncomfortable.
Putting yourself in another’s place is something that is lost in this increasingly isolated and egocentric world we live in; thanks to the manager for accommodating me!
Very limited menu. Food portions very small. Love most every place at the Pearl and on Grayson street but we won't be back here. The one positive....the bartender was very attentive while we waited.
First timers and are definitely will be back, wonderful service, amazing food, great ambiance.

A very interesting twist on BBQ for sure. The dinner menu is smaller portions which are priced so you can try a broader portion of the menu. I liked that idea because there were so many different things I wanted to try. Everything we had was very good. The salmon collar appetizer was kind of a mess and not easy to share because it was just slightly cooked. A great dish if you like sushi and know what collar meat is, but don't try to share an order amongst 4 people. The one thing I disliked was the beer was not good. The brown ale tasted medicinal and the stout finished way too light in my opinion. To each their own though. Overall it was a cool place with an inventive kitchen. I would just go somewhere else for the beer.
Good but expected more.
The wooden interior suggested an old-time BBQ place, but the presentation was more chic than authentic Texas BBQ. It was just a mismatch in my mind and somewhat pretentious. If you are going to have an old-fashioned setting in a restaurant, have old-fashioned plates or just serve the meat on butcher paper for reasonable prices. If you are trying to be chic, change the decor and keep the menu the same. If I were you I wouldn't try to be both. The meat was OK, but no better than more traditional (and less expensive) BBQ places (Black's, Franklin's, even County Line).
The Valentine's Dinner menu was so good, we're still talking about it days later! The staff was knowledgeable and personable and I know we'll definitely be back to try more!

Interesting atmosphere. We were told when seated that it was communal seating which was fine even though it was a business meeting. We were told before seating that the group at our table was "finishing their entree and wouldn't be long". When seated, we were placed at the end of the table-so two across from each other and the third person as an "end cap". Very very tight quarters. What caused our issue was the entree hadn't even been served yet to our table mates and two other full tables were near empty for virtually the entire time we were there. The tip represented this poor communication/service level and the mgr/owner approached us before leaving regarding the tip level. When we expressed our service issues he started to argue with us about the status of the empty tables though it was a topic of conversation for the entire meal and we were obviously watching it and never once addressed the issue of 1) poor seating arrangements 2) empty tables while 7 people sat at a 6 person table and 3) a bold misrepresentation of the seating status. Unfortunately this really distracted from what could have been a very nice unique and tasty food experience albeit pricey.
I love the granary as soon as we got there they let us know our table will be available soon and let us know we can go to the bar food was awesome service was awesome can't wait to go back

Cold and uncomfortable - it's like they didn't have the heat on. Everyone was eating with their coats on. And if you wanted to take your coat off, there was no place to put it. We were seated near the front door and could feel the draft every time it opened. Seats were hard wooden stools with no backs. I had the brisket "ramen" which consisted of regular spaghetti noodles in a mediocre broth and tasteless cubes of beef. I asked the onsen egg to be fully cooked (I'm pregnant and avoiding undercooked animal products) and it wasn't. Never got the chance to tell the server because despite otherwise good service, he never asked once how things were. My husband had the barbecue board and it was decent, nothing special. His beer was good, but definitely not an imperial stout as advertised. Saw a bug crawling on the wall near our table and brought this to the server's attention. The manager came by and apologized for this, took the entrees off of our bill. Apparently he did this for the party sitting next to us too. We appreciated this, but overall it a pretty disappointing experience.
I chose this place because my husband wanted BBQ and the reviews were decent. There was only 1 bbq meal and my husband ordered it. He loved the brisket and pork but didn't really care for the sides. Our server really talked up the steak so my son ordered that which was a big disappointment. He thought it was very chewy. I ordered the Tai snapper which came out very undercooked. I sent it back and the manager apologized telling me that it was "sushi grade" and the chef doesn't like to cook it. Once it was cooked fully I thought it was good. Overall I feel this place tries to be too creative and the prices are too high for what you get. We did have the bread pudding desert which wasn't too bad. Our server also brewed a new pot of decaf coffee just for me which I thought was very kind.

Loved it! Great place for a great value compared to the other restaurants in the Pearl District.
Overall, the food was good. One of the appetizers we ate the fritters, was light and crispy, but had absolutely no taste. Same with the quinoa with the clod. However, everything else was spectacular. Never had BBQ beans with flavor like that! Our waiter was very personable and made us feel relaxed. And the beer.... love it! Thanks and we'll be back.
Excellent Food and Excellent service. We had seen the Granary featured on a Food Network show. It looked amazing...and it did not fail to please in any way.
The food was delicious. The choices all sounded really good. The ambiance and look of the place was perfect for a good bbq spot. I ordered the BBQ Board and it was very filling and amazing.
Great location. Food was on point and delicious. Service was great, from Adam to the rest of the staff. As mentioned, food was outstanding, but a bit on the pricier side. Overall, loved the place and will return.
It’s my go to restaurant when I come to San Antonio for business. Everything I have tried have been awesome. The food looks, smells, and tastes great!
Outstanding, imaginative dinner menu at perhaps the site of the best bbq in San Antonio for lunch. My hanger steak was simply spectacular--incredibly tender and perfectly done.

Experience-ok. First started with a house brew, brown ale. It was great! Next dinner... squash yummy. Mackerel - eh. Had some non-meat eaters in the group. Snapper was off the menu our night. That left a cabbage roll. Surprisingly good. Beef ramen on guy ordered was delicious. Dessert: bread pudding. Tasty but nothing to write home about.
Overall -meh. I’ll give it one more try.
An evening out, The Granary is always a great pick for a good refreshing beer and a small but great menu that is sure to please your palate! Our waitress talked me into trying the Duck Entrée and it was superb! Then the Beef Clod is my husband's all time favorite dish!
Would not go back. Too expensive for what you get. Hard benches. Tables are very close together. Place was really slow for a Saturday night. No lines and plently of empty tables everywhere but we were instructed to go to the counter and order a drink while our table was being cleaned!
We had a teeny tiny plate of cheese (3 cheese selections) about a cubic inch each, with 3 smears of jam & honey and 6 pieces of teeny tiny toast points which were tasteless and so very dry they crumbled when picked up. Cheese plate was $15.00. We also had a tiny bowl of ramen & the barbecue plate. The ramen was good but it was $16.00 for a ridiculously small bowl with about 1/2 cup of noodles and a few small pieces of brisket and a soft boiled egg. The barbecue plate was tasty but it was $18.00 and only had 3 or 4 pieces of brisket and 3 or 4 pieces of chicken thigh. Each piece of meat was about 1.5” long. Plate also came with 1/2 cup of beans and 1/4 to 1/2 cup of potato salad, 1 slice of white bread & a couple of slices of pickles. Beans were good but were cold. Barbecue sauce was served in a badly chipped and cracked bowl. Yuck. We also each had a beer at the counter while waiting for our table.
The food portions were laughable. Is this a restaurant for ants?

This was my first visit to The Granary 'Cue & Brew and I'm really hoping my next visit is soon. We went to celebrate a friend's promotion and enjoyed a special event menu that featured guest chefs and craft brews from Texas & Colorado. True, we only sampled a small portion of their "usual" fare, but the service was excellent and their in-house beers were creative and delicious. We'll definitely be back!
The Granery has one of the most creative menus in town. The hangar steak was the best I've ever had! Everything was excellent and I can't wait to go back!

All the staff is phenomenal but kudos especially to Heather who did her best to accommodate us despite we kept changing the time of our reservation for unforeseen circumstances . Thank you for going above and beyond.
The chef is an artist. The food tasted great and the presentation was great, too. The beer selection was small in size but vast in the types offered and I prefer it that way. Woody was a good waiter, knowledgeable with good recommendations. Great experience for some foodies.
We originally had a reservation for two and then found out a dear friend of the family was able to join us. Stephen worked his magic to not only help us move the time but also get us inside. Food was fabulous, our waitress was just a delight and it was truly a great evening. Next time I am back in San Antonio, Granary is a MUST!
Loved this restaurant. Creative spins on BBQ plus house brewed craft beer. What more could one ask for?
