Awesome service, cool decor and absolutely stellar chef and menu!! Highly recommend. In super cool Pearl neighborhood.
Our first trip to The Granary and won't be our last! We arrived about 15 minutes early for our reservation and were still able to be seated immediately (early Saturday evening). Our server greeted us promptly, was vibrant, and told us about the evening specials with enthusiasm and tasting knowledge. I asked about craft beers and our server explained several offerings, the first of which, Infamous Brewing's Sweep the Leg Peanut Butter Stout, was a winner!
We took her up on the New England Clam Chowder which was wonderful. We also found several ways to share offerings on the menu so that we could sample a lot without overeating and without having to take anything home. We had the barbeque board with brisket and pulled pork, and an add'l serving of brisket (only $6 more). The meat was wonderful! The board is served with a German-style potato salad, mixed beans, and barbeque sauce. The potato salad was flavorful with herbs and not too much vinegar; the beans were a fascinating combination of flavors with spice and a hint of sweet.
Great experience and we hope to return soon!
Food was great. Smaller portions on some of the options. Really terrible and slow service. Took over 2 hours for dinner and we ordered our food relatively quickly.
Food and server were fabulous. We will definitely be back.
Great experience, will definitely be back.
They don’t include the draught beers they carry (other than the ones the make) on the drink menu. So how are you supposed to know what they have? I went to the bar to find out they had others, but why not just put them on a drink menu????
Entrees don’t come with sides and they don’t have an ala carte for sides either. So I got a six ounce steak with a few Brussels sprout leaves - no options for sides! I saw Brussels sprouts and actually thought they would be there.
If you want to leave a place hungry, eat here.
The hostess was stressed, the bar service was slow and inattentive, wait staff didn’t take our order for more than 30 minutes, food took forever and wasn’t worth the wait. Overpriced small portions. We would not go back.
Adventurous food which didn’t always hit the mark, but when it did was fantastic. Don’t confuse this with a gastro-pub, it’s really a creative restaurant that happens to have a brewery attached (the beer is also good, the wine list small but thoughtful).
Good was shabby compared to 2 years ago when we ate there. Service was poor I placed an order 15 minutes later was told they no longer had that item. Will not spend our money there again.
Food, service and beers were amazing. The staff made us feel very welcome, made great food and drink recommendations. Easy to talk and eat as a family.
Service from the waiter was a bit overbearing sometimes. mushroom Appetizer was the best i ever had!
This is two restaurants in one. At lunch the Granary is a stellar BBQ joint with standard Texas style BBQ with various specials - Tuesday lunch with a Pastrami Rib is my favorite. At dinner Chef Tim cuts loose and produces a range of fare all including something smoked, however lightly. My last dinner was the smoked duck and simply put, the duck alone was worth the trip!
I would strongly advise against going there for dinner. All the great reviews are for the lunch menu only. For some reason at dinner they take away that menu and replace it with a new menu which I would call a work-in-progress. The charcuterie plate in particular was very strange - two servings of fish mousse and mustard / pickles but no meat! After we left we actually went somewhere else to get more BBQ.
Great food nice attentive staff
Surprisingly expensive for what we got. It was ok but won't make a point to return
I was very disappointed in our experience at The Granary. We were a group of 9. 3 of the 9 entrees were served 25-30 minutes after the other 6. Additionally, the short ribs were extremely dry. Overall, it is by far the worst experience I have had at The Pearl.
The food was excellent and unique. Ambience wonderful. Definitely pricey - not your usual barbecue.
Overpriced for what you get. Husband and I both ordered the barbecue board, very little meat you get, one slice of brisket and a spoonful of chopped brisket, along with sides and half a slice of bread. It wasn’t bad but wasn’t great either, meat temperature was warm but not hot. We were expecting more for $18 an order. Mediocre at Best! Save your money, there are much better places to dine at in the Pearl.
Great flavor but it tasted like lunch is a better time to go. Very dry. Service was so attentive to the point it was annoying. Overall decent and glad i tried it.
Very disappointing visit been there numerous times but this time disappointed. Out of several items and some drink types. Less than I expect from this establishment. Gotta do better to keep me coming back.
This was not barbeque. If you are planning to visit because of TX Monthly's rating, forget it. The very small portions for the price was disappointing. The baked bean sides were really bad, the pulled pork way too salty just for starters.
First time there. Enjoyed dinner. Will definitely go back!
Pretty good barbecue, great beer selection. for my taste, too much mustard in some of the sauces.
service and food was very good. liked the rustic atmosphere and variety of beer.
Atmosphere and location were great. Underwhelmed by dinner menu and prices. Food was good. We had BBQ plates, chicken thigh with grits, charcuterie and cheese plates and brisket ramen. Also had local beer flights. Very small portions, and large prices. However, atmosphere was good and I would go back again.
Absurdly expensive, very mediocre food. So dissapointed.
Overpriced. Limited menu. Octopus and potato tapas appetizers way off mark.
Overall the food was good. A bit pricey for small portions. The biggest downfall for our large party of 11 was that the waitress did not communicate with us that they could not do separate checks. They just said it was on the menu which none of remember seeing. However, it should have been communicated that the bill could not be split into individual checks from the beginning to avoid conflict. The manager was rude about the whole situation. This place is good for a date but would not recommend for a business outing or large groups.
Portions are very small. Pretty limited menu. But everything was very good. Value is not very good with portion size.
Came here for our last evening of vacation. Love the concept but not the flavors. Strange combinations and I usually am very adventurous with my food. Nice service. Just not my cup of tea. If you are looking for traditional barbecue this is not it.
I let the staff know ahead of time this was a business meal so they tried to put us in a quiet corner. They also called me about 5 hours ahead of time to confirm my reservation and ask if I had any guests with dietary restrictions which was really nice. I was able to add two extra seats as well. Great service, although they made half of our party wait until "a majority" of our party was there to be seated. I don't understand this... we had to have separate bar and table checks because we couldn't be seated all at once.
The meat was really fatty. And portions are tiny.
Food did not have enough flavor for the price. I have no problem dropping serious cash on good food but this place did not cut it. The dry age strip lacked flavor and so did other items we got.
Had a good time going to the Granary...food was very good and the service was good as well.
I went with the Beef Clod and it did not disappoint.
I only wish they had more of a bar area to sit and have a few drinks before/after dinner. Unfortunately, they are working out of an old house and that does limit the usable sq ft.
The server was wonderful with great suggestions some of the house brewed beer was flavorful and simple but, the food is where this place really shines. Truly remarkable, easily some of the best dining in San Antonio
Food was okay. Nothing to write home about especially for the price. Server was super patient and helpful with the menu. Fish came out cold and had to go back. The good news is they comped us for those meals. It was fairly loud in the room we were in. Not dying to go back again anytime soon but would recommend for the ambience if you don’t mind noise.
An awesome dining experience! Jill was too cool for words. We look forward to our next visit.
The food was pretty good but the service was... strange. Everyone who worked there except for a waitress in training was bizarre, awkward around others, and unfriendly. For the price point, I not only expected better service, but better food. The appetizers were wonderful but the entrees were underwhelming.
We enjoyed the food. However I made reservations and we still had to sit with other people which was awkward. The service was also slow and likely forgetful although nice. Overall slightly overpriced and not worth the time and effort to make reservations.
We enjoyed our meal and learned a new fruit - calamansi, which is a hybrid of citrus and kumquat. Highly recommend the mushroom starter. We did not save room for dessert, but based on previous meals would recommend that others do so.
