Cool spot, attentive service, tasty beverages, good food albeit pricey (cool part of town, but $19 pasta???) and NOT KID FRIENDLY!!! Great adult get away from kids running around outside.
Seating at communal tables was off putting. We saw a handful of couples leave because they didn’t want to sit at a bench next to total strangers.
Service from kitchen was exceedingly slow. It was a full two hours before we received our entrees.
Amazing staff and atmosphere, however the portions were super small and they say it’s “made to share”.
The food was good except the prices were just a little bit too pricey for me
The ambiance was great. Very warm and inviting. The service was excellent. The only disappointment was that we were told that it was a family style restaurant, and the three of us should order two main courses and 2-3 sides. Everything that came out was VERY tiny. The ribs plate was just five small ribs. The burnt ends bolognese was a very small bowl. The beets plate was about 1/2 a beet, and the grilled cabbage was 1/2 of a tiny head of cabbage. The prices were such that we expected larger portions - the bill came to almost $100, and only two of the three of us had a drink. So I have mixed feelings about this place. If you have the right expectations on the small portions, you'll have a better experience than we did.
If you haven’t been in 2019 check the menu. Complete dinner menu revamp. No more BBQ board. Now only overpriced side free entrees. I’m ok with change but when someone came around asking how things were we were honest that we were a bit disappointed with the menu changes. Rather than a simple thanks for your feedback we were met with we are “taking things to the next level” which felt very dismissive. So good luck with the “next level” without our business. It was a good 6 years...
I hate to leave negative reviews, but this visit was absolutely terrible from beginning to end. This was our 2nd time dining here, and we will never be back. You can get much better food, service, and value from your money at other restaurants in town.
Chef Rattray does a super job about keeping his menu interesting and fun! Whether you are there for lunch or dinner expect a nice time. My husband and I have been customers since they started the business and we are in love with this BBQ restaurants feeling.
The Pearl is such a great location to be able to visit and walk around.
We had the Beef Clod (FAV) and the Fatty Brisket with Kimchi along with a new dish of Cabbage and Apples! Oh my! Thank you, Chef!
We were excited to have some barbeque while visiting San Antonio. Our server Ryan was very good. However the food is very overpriced for what you recieve in food. 5 baby back ribs were $23 without any sides, no rice, no slaw, no beans, nothing. I had to ask for BBQ sauce to go with it actually. We also got the fried brussel sprouts which were good but also overpriced. The half chicken was $31 I believe which is outrageous and also without any side dishes. The chicken and ribs were good but we left hungry but didn't want to pay any more $. At home you get way more than just meat when you order BBQ unlike here. Wouldn't return, sorry
It was tasty cue, just wish their dinner menu was a little more clear on what it is we are getting. If it spelled out the meats better it would have been more clear.
We had a great time sharing food and drinks!
Restaurant recently went through some major changes. Was unorganized and extremely loud. Food was not up to expectations.
Staff was helpful. Some more gluten free options/modifications would have been appreciated.
Delicious upscale bbq. Highly recommend the Texas Toast! While they cite beer in the name, there is a good selection of wines. Great service & food.
Disappointed with the quality of the food. The brisket was fatty, tough to chew, and luke warm. Others in my party of six had similar experience with their food quality. Service was okay but the food won’t bring me back.
Horrible experience. Would never go back. Didn’t even get to look at the menu. That should tell you everything.
Upscale barbeque in a warm quiet setting. House crafted beers and delicious food. Will eat here again and tell all my friends to stop by for a bite. Yummy!!
Do not expect them to honor the reservation on time. Made it for 630 and was not seated until 6:50.
We enjoyed the Granary during a stay at the Emma. Charcuterie, bbq, a special duck dish, and wine. Great evening experience!
Portions, including the wine, were the smallest of any restaurant I have ever dined at. Ridiculous. BBQ plate had two small strips of brisket and ice cream scoop sized pork. Steak and duck entrees were both dwarfed by the dinner plate served on. I would have been embarrassed to deliver the $170 bill for three to the table.
Our waitperson, Miranda, was very knowledgeable and helpful. We enjoyed some unique appetizers, maitake mushrooms and a charcuterie plate with great pickles. We were able to share the pork chop, and it was delicious. I understand there will be new offerings in the new year. I look forward to trying them out!
We thought the food at the granary on a Wednesday night was as good of food as you could get in San Antonio. It was excellent!
Awesome service, cool decor and absolutely stellar chef and menu!! Highly recommend. In super cool Pearl neighborhood.
Our first trip to The Granary and won't be our last! We arrived about 15 minutes early for our reservation and were still able to be seated immediately (early Saturday evening). Our server greeted us promptly, was vibrant, and told us about the evening specials with enthusiasm and tasting knowledge. I asked about craft beers and our server explained several offerings, the first of which, Infamous Brewing's Sweep the Leg Peanut Butter Stout, was a winner!
We took her up on the New England Clam Chowder which was wonderful. We also found several ways to share offerings on the menu so that we could sample a lot without overeating and without having to take anything home. We had the barbeque board with brisket and pulled pork, and an add'l serving of brisket (only $6 more). The meat was wonderful! The board is served with a German-style potato salad, mixed beans, and barbeque sauce. The potato salad was flavorful with herbs and not too much vinegar; the beans were a fascinating combination of flavors with spice and a hint of sweet.
Great experience and we hope to return soon!
Food was great. Smaller portions on some of the options. Really terrible and slow service. Took over 2 hours for dinner and we ordered our food relatively quickly.
Food and server were fabulous. We will definitely be back.
Great experience, will definitely be back.
They don’t include the draught beers they carry (other than the ones the make) on the drink menu. So how are you supposed to know what they have? I went to the bar to find out they had others, but why not just put them on a drink menu????
Entrees don’t come with sides and they don’t have an ala carte for sides either. So I got a six ounce steak with a few Brussels sprout leaves - no options for sides! I saw Brussels sprouts and actually thought they would be there.
If you want to leave a place hungry, eat here.
The hostess was stressed, the bar service was slow and inattentive, wait staff didn’t take our order for more than 30 minutes, food took forever and wasn’t worth the wait. Overpriced small portions. We would not go back.
Adventurous food which didn’t always hit the mark, but when it did was fantastic. Don’t confuse this with a gastro-pub, it’s really a creative restaurant that happens to have a brewery attached (the beer is also good, the wine list small but thoughtful).
Good was shabby compared to 2 years ago when we ate there. Service was poor I placed an order 15 minutes later was told they no longer had that item. Will not spend our money there again.
Food, service and beers were amazing. The staff made us feel very welcome, made great food and drink recommendations. Easy to talk and eat as a family.
Service from the waiter was a bit overbearing sometimes. mushroom Appetizer was the best i ever had!
This is two restaurants in one. At lunch the Granary is a stellar BBQ joint with standard Texas style BBQ with various specials - Tuesday lunch with a Pastrami Rib is my favorite. At dinner Chef Tim cuts loose and produces a range of fare all including something smoked, however lightly. My last dinner was the smoked duck and simply put, the duck alone was worth the trip!
I would strongly advise against going there for dinner. All the great reviews are for the lunch menu only. For some reason at dinner they take away that menu and replace it with a new menu which I would call a work-in-progress. The charcuterie plate in particular was very strange - two servings of fish mousse and mustard / pickles but no meat! After we left we actually went somewhere else to get more BBQ.
Great food nice attentive staff
Surprisingly expensive for what we got. It was ok but won't make a point to return
I was very disappointed in our experience at The Granary. We were a group of 9. 3 of the 9 entrees were served 25-30 minutes after the other 6. Additionally, the short ribs were extremely dry. Overall, it is by far the worst experience I have had at The Pearl.
The food was excellent and unique. Ambience wonderful. Definitely pricey - not your usual barbecue.
Overpriced for what you get. Husband and I both ordered the barbecue board, very little meat you get, one slice of brisket and a spoonful of chopped brisket, along with sides and half a slice of bread. It wasn’t bad but wasn’t great either, meat temperature was warm but not hot. We were expecting more for $18 an order. Mediocre at Best! Save your money, there are much better places to dine at in the Pearl.
