The Grain House Restaurant is located on the picturesque 10-acre estate of the Olde Mill Inn in Basking Ridge, NJ. The structure was originally built as a barn in the 1760’s and was used to store grain for American Revolutionary soldiers. The barn was later moved to its current location and opened as a restaurant in the 1930’s. Today, the Grain House is a renowned restaurant in North/Central New Jersey, with a comfortable, casual ambiance. The restaurant serves innovative, traditional and contemporary interpretations of American cuisine with some added international accents, prepared under the direction of executive chef Luca Carvello. Delicious homemade desserts complete the menus, which are revised several times a year. Outdoor patio dining and fireside dining are available in season. The restaurant offers lunch and dinner daily, as well as a special brunch/lunch menu offered on Saturdays from 11 AM to 4 PM. Sunday 10AM to 2 PM. An expansive brunch buffet is available.

Very nice place to meet for business lunch or a lunch with friends. Very lively, delicious, healthy lunch choices. Very good wait staff.

My fiancé and I made a reservation for Valentine's Day as our first time at the restaurant. We came to check it out, taste the food and see the space because we were thinking of having an engagement party in one of the rooms. Two days later, we are booking the engagement party. The food was absolutely delicious from the salad to the dessert. I was blown away and can't believe I have never been here before. I can't wait to have my family and friends here for our engagement party because we truly enjoyed our experience and every meal we had.

My wife and I got married there 5 years ago and we go back there for every Valentine's Day and Anniversary. The place is wonderful.

Great food & good service. Wife is a vegetarian and the menu gave her several options. I would recommend and will be eating here again!

We were very disappointed. The food was pretty bad. We went for Sunday brunch and most of the food was cold. The eggs Benedict hardly had any sauce on it and what was there, was actually dried. The English muffin on it was hardly toasted at all. The blintzes were burnt. The icing on the cupcakes tasted like straight up butter. Definitely would not go back.

The Grain House used to be a high caliber restaurant. Service has diminished over the years. The waitstaff was completely overworked and overwhelmed, which attributed to long lags between ordering, courses, and/or replenishments. The noise from the bar in the basement made the dining room much less enjoyable. I doubt we will return on a weekend, if at all.

A limited menu with few gluten free options.
The food preparation was mixed. One entree was ordered rare and delivered well done.
Food quality good but taste was just ok. Nothing special.

Place is very noisy. Was hard to have a conversation with our friends. My filet was delicious. Two people at the table were disappointed with the short ribs. Not tender enough. We shared 3 different desserts (vanilla ice cream, s’mores bread pudding and salted caramel cheesecake) and they were all fair. Even the coffee and cappuccino were bitter. Nothing spectacular. Every expensive evening. Wouldn’t mind paying their prices if the food was worth it

My husband and I came for dinner on a Saturday night and were placed in a private room which seemed great. Within a few minutes a six party group was now in the room with us and we couldn't hear eachother speak. Would have made more sense to put the 6 person group in the main dining room and one or two other 2-somes in our room.

Attentive service, delicious food, with enough choices to please everyone. It is a bit noisy, but the fireplace is nice.
Plenty of free parking and easy to get to. It is a great choice.

Ordered a monkfish pasta on special. It was a thin friend piece cut up in squares and put into the macaroni. Very strange, almost felt like a leftover getting tossed in. The fish was also very heavily seasoned, compared to the subtle tasting of the pasta with the sauce. If it wasn't a leftover use up item, I'm very puzzled by the choice of seasoning with it.

Other than that the experience was really good.

We love this place! Usually we go for Sunday brunch buffet (fabulous) but this time we opted for Saturday breakfast/lunch. Menu had a great selection of interesting breakfast choices and interesting lunch options. Staff is attentive but not hovering. We did not feel rushed at all; Betz and Henry bend over backwards to accommodate. Need I say more?

My boyfriend and I dined here for NYE and it was absolutely amazing. The food is always spectacular and you seriously cannot go wrong with the cookie skillet with roasted marshmallow gelato for dessert - I could eat one every night. Definitely will be back and brining more friends!

This restaurant is a pleasant-looking place at which to dine.

I found the menu to be rather limited. I found at least one of the items listed (Crab dinner w/two six-ounce crab cakes) ) to have a price that seemed to be a bit out of line with what other restaurants (in or near the same class as Grain House) would charge.

I also was disappointed with the temperature of the food (on both of the entrees that were ordered) to be considerably lower than what would expect them to be. Especially so given the fact that it did not appear that the part of the restaurant open to the public was anywhere near full. While I believe that they were holding a wedding reception at another area of the restaurant, one would think that the restaurant should have had enough staff on hand--both in the kitchen and in the serving area--to get the food delivered to the table while it was still hot.

It is always a major disappointment when this happens to me at a restaurant. The ownership/staff always expect me to pay my bill 100% on the dollar, right? Given that mindset, why in the world do they seem to feel that they can get away with serving up a product that doesn't live up to the image they work so hard to portray, as well as the reasonable expectations of their guests?
