There is a nice combination of fine dining and pub entrees. Highly recommend the pork chop and the burger is good too. Great salads. Not a fancy atmosphere, love the dining room with the bar, old world charm.
There was dirty smelly carpet and sticky tables to start. A medium rare burger came out med well in the middle and well done on the edges. Thankfully the manager removed it from the bill. Unfortunately the $34 trout special my friend had tasted bland no seasoning at all. It was a shame because we both wanted to try this place but unfortunately it wasn’t the best birthday dinner celebration.
The staff seemed thin and therefore had difficulty keeping up with customers. My co-diner had placed an order that was received incorrect. I was never offered a refill on my soft drink. The Cobb salad was mostly lettuce and bland; I’ve had much better at a lesser price. It was Columbus Day so perhaps there were more customers than a usual Monday. Staff was very courteous and pleasant.
We were in the bar area seating and the place looked like it needed a good refresh. The carpet was probably from last century in keeping with the historical nature of the place. The servers were friendly but clearly not attentive and lacked knowledge about menu items. We were expecting more. Food was ok but we will not go out of our way to return.
Very friendly and efficient service!
This was the second time I had dinner at the Grain House recently and both times the food was excellent and the service attentive and friendly. I had Bass that was perfectly cooked and prepared and plated creatively. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. Highly recommend.
First visit was outside on the patio. It's nicely done, but the proximity to 202 makes you feel like you're sitting roadside. The chicken quesadillas were nicely presented. And while they are smothered with cheese on the inside and outside (which I'd never seen before), it disguises the small amount of chicken inside. I'd prefer my protein more from chicken than cheese. My friend's onion soup was also smothered with cheese, so maybe excess cheese is a thing here. She was satisfied with her salad, which was also a bit light on the protein. I realize costs and prices are up, but it shouldn't affect the serving ratios. I would return to try the dinner menu indoors, but I recommend attention to the ratios on the plate...unless you love extra cheese as your protein source.
OMI burger was excellent, the french fries accompanying the burger--not so much. Fries were terribly oversalted and were not crisp, Appeared to be sitting-around under the heat lamp. Value for the meal cost was only 7 out of 10. Great service and ambience! Overall, recommended!
Nice, low-key evening. Attentive service. Meatloaf and avocado toast were both great, though the French onion soup was a bit "gummy" for one guest.
It had been a few years since i dined here. The restaurant is old-style decor and needs updating. However, service was excellent. My spouse had the classic burger which was good size and perfectly cooked. French onion soup was not overly salty- very good. I had the super salad bowl- hot quinoa with spinach, celery, avocado and fried egg on top- it was excellent. Dessert- gelato was exceptional.
thanks so much for the feedback. we're glad that you enjoyed everything and hope to see you again soon.
Attentive service and delicious appetizer and burgers.
One waitress rude inattentive ruined my sisters birthday lunch
Waited over an hour and 15 minutes for just the appetizer. Couple that came in after us received their appetizer, the one that we ordered, within 20 minutes of their arrival. Did not stay to eat. Got our check and left. Server was terrible and never came to our table. Bartender had to come ask us if we wanted a second drink. Never go again!
We were celebrating our Anniversary and attending a wedding here the next day. Great to walk across the parking lot and be back st the hotel. Food was good. Nice atmosphere
A beautiful day outside. Servers were great
Service was slow.
Traditional Inn fare, the salad was reasonably good and the pork chop was overcooked but still tender due to the red cabbage underneath. Our waitress was very good, knowledgeable and attentive, but she could have used some more support. We asked to be outside on the patio and we knew the proximity of 287, so the traffic noise was expected.
Food was excellent. Service could have been a little more attentive, however, we had a lovely evening. We will definitely be back!
First time dining here. We will definitely be back. We enjoyed the drinks, the outdoor dining and the great meal. Thank you for a great evening.
We recently moved to NJ from CA and have driven past the restaurant a few times so decided to give it a try. The food was very good with even better service. Our server was prompt, gave us options and checked up on us to make sure all was well. The support staff (eg clearing table) was also on top of things. The overall building has a definite look as does the bar and patio dining but the "main" room with fireplace was a tad lackluster in terms of décor. This could be improved greatly with relatively minor expense; my thoughts more in line with the heritage of the building. That being said, we'll be back.
Brunch on a beautiful Saturday with outdoor seating was excellent. Good variety of quality food on the menu.
Thanks so much!! We are so glad that you enjoyed everything.
The patio is delightful, and each dish was excellent (salad with perfect, salmon, avocado toast and a great angus burger). Prices are reasonable and portions are generous. A terrific spot for a summer Saturday lunch/brunch.
Thanks for the wonderful feedback. Hope to see you again soon.
Food was AMAZING! Outdoor dining set up was very nice, and service was great. Will definitely be back sooner rather than later!
Always a great experience. Enjoyed the wonderful food on the patio.
Thank you so much for the feedback! We are so happy that you enjoyed your time with us. Come back soon.
Ate in Pub Room, not a room to hold a conversation in. Would have given 5 star except for that reason. Also facility needs some spiffing up especially ladies room and carpeting.
Hi Marge, We're sorry if the pub was a bit noisy when you were here. We do have another dining room so for future reference please feel free to ask to move if it's too noisy where you are seated. Hope to see you again.
I always enjoy this restaurant!!
Good home cooking. Boyfriend got thr e meatloaf, and I got the bass. Also had the steak spring rolls. All very tasty, good portions. Wait staff is very friendly and timely.
Thanks so much!! Come back soon.
Lighting wasn’t working properly on the patio could hardly see my meal once it came. Food was completely average at best and the facility needs a facelift. Waitress was very good however.
We're so sorry that your visit was not up to our own standards. I apologize about the lighting outside. We were having some issues. If at anytime you are not satisfied with anything please ask to speak with a manager so that we can take care of it while you are here. Hope to see you again.
Just a wonderful place to go to share lunch with a friend.
We ate outside on the patio. It was pleasant but there is a lot of traffic noise from route 202. We would have been more comfortable in one of the lovely dining rooms.
I'm so sorry that it was a noisy day on the patio. For future reference you can always ask to be moved inside. Our guests happiness is our 1st priority and we would have moved you if at all possible. Hope to see you again sometime.
I was there for lunch. The menu has many good choices. The food was very good and a good value. I love the 1/2 sandwich that comes with soup and salad. Water glasses were always filled without having to ask. Food came out very hot. It’s a very old quaint building. All that needs to be done is get rid of the rug.
Thanks so much for the great feedback. Hope to see you again.
Was good overall but service was slow tonight
Celebrated our anniversary here (we got married at the Olde Mill Inn) great
Meal, excellent service and wonderful experience even during the hurricane ! Will def come back
Hi Jessica! Thanks so much for the great feedback. I was the manager on duty that night who stopped by to ask how everything was and to wish you a Happy Anniversary. We're so glad that you enjoyed everything. Hope to see you again soon!
Good service and good food!
Very enjoyable. Friendly staff, good food, and pleasant ambiance. Will return!
The seating and service were fine. The main dining room was surprisingly noisy, perhaps just loud people? The waitress was attentive and friendly. The dinner menu seems a little unusual, but had a range of entrees, some with accompaniments not to our liking. The sauteed Rock Bass was tasteless, and the cremini meatloaf was bland and barely warm. The Caesar salad was good, as was the onion soup.
Atmosphere pleasant but a little noisy. Service ok, sometimes a lag. food good. Salmon good ,fried artichoke hearts superior, tomato ragout good, couscous good but cold. Interesting combination. Dessert menu uninteresting. This is a solid restaurant, cozy, and somewhere you go to when the food has to be above average and not be embarrassed.
Enjoyed the historic atmosphere meeting with a relative, great tasty lunch choices!
Lovely setting. Very good food. Service was fine. Great for lunch.
Very nice dinner outdoor on the deck with friends. Three of us had the roasted chicken which was tender and delicious. My friend ordered the mushroom meatloaf which he enjoyed as well.
Thank you for the feedback. Hope to see you again!!
