I follow a whole food/plant based diet and, after looking for a good place near me this one food I could eat and enjoy. I had lentil soup and a veggie burger. Service was good and the ambience good for having a long meal and good conversation. Dessert was wonderful.
David was excellent. Food fantastic. Great atmosphere
Went to lunch with my mom and boyfriend. Very cute atmosphere - loved the ambiance. French onion soup was phenomenal! The other food was a bit over cooked. Would definitely go back with family.
Went for brunch and had a great time, loved the fireplace and atmosphere.
Nice old classic place..great wait staff but Bloody Mary was lackluster and food was just ok
Birthday sat in the copper room
Great choices of food, historic setting, comfortable atmosphere, and wonderful service. My new favorite restaurant.
I love the Grain House but usually come for lunch during the week. This time we were there on a very busy Sunday for Brunch. They do have a great brunch menu. Despite being busy we weren’t rushed. Food is always dependably good. Servers were attentive despite being so busy. One of my favorite places!
We are local residents who regularly eat at the Grain House for 25 years. Unfortunately, this visit was not one of the best. The dining room was packed and noisy. The table next to us was a family with young kids who were restless and agitated Obviously not the restaurant’s fault, but you’re asking about the perceived ambiance for us and that was a negative. The staff may have had some trouble keeping up with the number of customers as my serving of quiche either didn’t have enough heat time or sat too long waiting to be delivered to our table as it was barely warm. The server did send it back and it was fine on the redelivery.
Server and host were all over it great service great lunch we meet once a month love this place❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thanks so much!1 We appreciate the feedback and are glad that you were so happy. Hope to see you soon!
Meeting an old best friend!
Brunch was disappointing the service was super slow and felt like we were bothering them. Food was good nothing special
Thanks for the feedback. I'm sorry that you were disappointed. i know there were some errors with your salad but I thought we corrected that. I am the manager who stopped by your table with the extra avocado and to check on you. I'm sorry if you felt the service was slow. We were pretty busy that day so perhaps some things took a bit longer than usual. this was not typical of most experiences so I do hope that you will give us another try sometime. Hope to see you again.
Food was delicious, especially the pork chop.
We called three times to book a table for 6. No one picked up each time. As an alternative, I then completed an Open Table reservation for 6 which was confirmed. When we arrived, the maitre d' had no clue who we were and was actually grumpy and less than accommodating. We'd asked for a table in the bar area and ended up in the larger dining area - it was fine, but not what we'd sked for. Did they even look at our Open Table request? He's new and he needs to move on - we have been coming to this establishment for more than 20 years and this person is doing the Grain House no favors.
Hi Andi, We're so sorry that we were not able to accommodate your request. We do see them and we try very hard to accommodate them. Usually it works out but sometimes it's just not possible. We only have 1 spot on the pub side where we can seat a party of 6 and that little room is not available right now due to some repairs being made. I'm glad that we were able to seat you in front of the other fireplace. We do hope to see you again soon. Thank you for the feedback.
Will definitely go back
Thank you!! Hope to see you soon!
Wonderful menu…so many choices…great service… lovely cozy atmosphere
Everything was good the food was excellent service was excellent the only thing is that selection of red wine was a little too expensive
Pretty restaurant, great menu and martinis!
Thanks so much!1 Hope to see you again soon.
Fabulous food and great service! We had a lovely evening.
The Grain House was a wonderful surprise! We were traveling through the Basking Ridge, NJ area and were fortunate to find this place. Wonderful food, ambiance and service. Highly recommend it.
Super nice experience at this reliable local gem where history and good food abounds. Sat outside on the lovely patio to be Covid safe. Appys, entrees , salads and desserts are great.
Service is outstanding - atmosphere cozy and inviting and the food is cooked to perfection. I have a lot of food allergies and they always can accommodate me.
Thanks for the feedback. We're so glad that you enjoyed everything and that we were able to accommodate your dietary needs. We do try very hard to accommodate any requests. Hope to see you again!!
Great place for a toasty warm lunch (ask for a table by a fireplace) with close friends. The food was fantastic and the staff was helpful and attentive. I would definitely recommend the restaurant for its ambiance and fantastic food. Even the desserts were outstanding.
We both had specials, pork and halibut, and we were both extremely pleased with them. I had several special requests which were honored perfectly and without complaint. Everything from appetizers to dessert were perfectly prepared. Only minor criticism: the cocktail menu could use some imagination.
This is a charming restaurant.
Easy to book a reservation.
Sunday brunch was delicious.
The staff is friendly and efficient.
Good food; excellent service. Would go back again.
We had an enjoyable meal, although the noise became deafening and sometimes uncomfortable as the evening progressed. We recommend early reservations for a more "quiet" meal.
Pleasant and food and service are great.
Good to have lunch and dinner
Grain House has been at the top of my list for entertaining visitors or for relaxing occasions with dear friends for decades!! Hope that never changes. Always an exciting selection of meals on the menu and a comfortable venue.
There is a nice combination of fine dining and pub entrees. Highly recommend the pork chop and the burger is good too. Great salads. Not a fancy atmosphere, love the dining room with the bar, old world charm.
Thanks so much for the feedback. Hope to see you again soon.
There was dirty smelly carpet and sticky tables to start. A medium rare burger came out med well in the middle and well done on the edges. Thankfully the manager removed it from the bill. Unfortunately the $34 trout special my friend had tasted bland no seasoning at all. It was a shame because we both wanted to try this place but unfortunately it wasn’t the best birthday dinner celebration.
The staff seemed thin and therefore had difficulty keeping up with customers. My co-diner had placed an order that was received incorrect. I was never offered a refill on my soft drink. The Cobb salad was mostly lettuce and bland; I’ve had much better at a lesser price. It was Columbus Day so perhaps there were more customers than a usual Monday. Staff was very courteous and pleasant.
We were in the bar area seating and the place looked like it needed a good refresh. The carpet was probably from last century in keeping with the historical nature of the place. The servers were friendly but clearly not attentive and lacked knowledge about menu items. We were expecting more. Food was ok but we will not go out of our way to return.
Very friendly and efficient service!
This was the second time I had dinner at the Grain House recently and both times the food was excellent and the service attentive and friendly. I had Bass that was perfectly cooked and prepared and plated creatively. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. Highly recommend.
Thanks so much for the feedback. Hope you come back soon.
First visit was outside on the patio. It's nicely done, but the proximity to 202 makes you feel like you're sitting roadside. The chicken quesadillas were nicely presented. And while they are smothered with cheese on the inside and outside (which I'd never seen before), it disguises the small amount of chicken inside. I'd prefer my protein more from chicken than cheese. My friend's onion soup was also smothered with cheese, so maybe excess cheese is a thing here. She was satisfied with her salad, which was also a bit light on the protein. I realize costs and prices are up, but it shouldn't affect the serving ratios. I would return to try the dinner menu indoors, but I recommend attention to the ratios on the plate...unless you love extra cheese as your protein source.
OMI burger was excellent, the french fries accompanying the burger--not so much. Fries were terribly oversalted and were not crisp, Appeared to be sitting-around under the heat lamp. Value for the meal cost was only 7 out of 10. Great service and ambience! Overall, recommended!
Thanks for the feedback!! Hope to see you again soon.
Nice, low-key evening. Attentive service. Meatloaf and avocado toast were both great, though the French onion soup was a bit "gummy" for one guest.
It had been a few years since i dined here. The restaurant is old-style decor and needs updating. However, service was excellent. My spouse had the classic burger which was good size and perfectly cooked. French onion soup was not overly salty- very good. I had the super salad bowl- hot quinoa with spinach, celery, avocado and fried egg on top- it was excellent. Dessert- gelato was exceptional.
thanks so much for the feedback. we're glad that you enjoyed everything and hope to see you again soon.
Attentive service and delicious appetizer and burgers.
