Love the farmer’s salad!
We love the Goose. Lively and warm atmosphere . Great service .
Valentines dinner with my wife and kids and the food was outstanding. My wife and I had the Zuppa de pesce my son had the linguine with clams and my daughter had the bolognese and all of the meals were outstanding. Highly recommend the Goose
They have this lady there that couldn’t sing very well and after a while it got really annoying. Other than that they were on top of the water they made sure my cup is filled and I was satisfied. Although, I wouldn’t recommend the lobster mac & cheese because it’s fake lobster and it didn’t taste that weIl. The sliders were good though but there were only three of them and I was expecting four that was a little disappointing. My man ordered the shrimp scampi and they didn’t even take the shrimp tail off. He was kind of disappointed about that but he still thought the pasta was good I but ,thought it was kind of nasty. There was this lady in the red dress walking around and she was pretty cool she seem like a nice person. Overall I had an OK experience.
Local restaurant perfect for occasions where you want to have a discussion - in the front room. Food was solid and tasty.
The service was unfortunately horrible. The waiter was not attentive to our table, even though the restaurant was not full. Never came by to ask how our food was, nor did he offer refills on water or coffee. The food also took an extraordinary long time to get.
Goose knows its strengths and its customers. The food is very good and the location is top notch. You can have a meal and catch up with friends without being rushed out the door. A good spot -- not too expensive.
My first time at Goose- the food and drinks were excellent, the service was excellent and we’ll be back again.
Overpriced and not great. Steak was ruined (and gray). Weak cocktails. Service was good and flatbread and calamari tasty.
Great salads in a cozy environment
Enjoyed it very much
I like The Goose for reasonably casual business lunch. Food and service is very good, and prices are reasonable. I like the bar area, as well, with a fire place. It's my go-to lunch place in Darien.
Love The Goose! Good variety of small to large bites of creative American cuisine. Good value. Service is mediocre and there are often lots of kids in the early evening.
The Goose is certainly a place for good food with a warm, friendly atmosphere. Our waitress was friendly, knowledgeable of the menu and definitely was in tune with our timing for ordering. The owner came around and checked in on the tables to make sure everything was okay.
This was our 3rd time there once it has been consistently good. We will definitely return.
We've been going to the Goose and its predecessor, The Black Goose, for 20+ years. It used to be so popular it was hard to get a reservation but now it's empty on a Saturday night. We took my 84-year old mother in law and my sister in law and brother in law. The manager was so rude when my mother in law came in with her walker. He told my sister in law to leave it at the front of the restaurant which would have made it tough for her to walk down the hallway and into the dining room. As it turned out there was a corner near our table that was fine for it - not in anyone's way. The waiter was pretty good, nice young guy. The potato chips and zucchini chips are still great. My Chicken Milanese was dry and so was my mother in law's burger. My husband's ribs were tasty. The bread pudding was delicious. In an almost empty dining room we were seated next to a large kids' birthday party. They were loud and having a good time which is terrific but it would have been nice if the manager had thought to put the 84 year old and her family in the other corner where it would have been a little quieter. Most 80-somethings don't hear that well. It's too bad because now that my mother in law has moved to Darien, the Goose would have been a nice go-to when we take her out, but I don't think we'll be back anytime soon. The bar side may be a better choice.
Consistently good. Never worry about what you will get at the Goose.
A staple for us for over 20 years!
Delicious food, friendly and attentive service. Entree salad portion size seems to be reduced since I was last here about 4-6 months ago.
Eclectic menu, great service and hidden gem in downtown Darien!!
Lobster sliders are outstanding. I had those, the Gag's side salad, and two glass of sauv blanc. Total check, about $53. Had just received my check, been there just under an hour, and the host came up to ask me if I could finish up because other people were waiting to get dinner. "I'm sorry", I said, "I thought I was having dinner? I just spent $60+ after tip...I didn't realize the menu items I ordered and check size wouldn't suffice as dinner".
My server was very cool, and patient...he had nothing to do with that interaction. However, I was dining alone, away from my wife and baby, and wouldn't have expected that. Good food, decent prices for east coast, but I can't endorse this with high stars based on that experience. Too many other places to check out.
Never disappoints! A place to go for us for almost 30 years!
The Goose is consistently wonderful! This is one of our favorite restaurants. The prime rib is one of the best we've had. Salads are great & the Mezze Platter is amazing. Kevin is also one of our favorite servers...he is very pleasant & helpful!
Good and wait staff is always consistent. Can't seem to go wrong with this place.
Both the food and the service were very good. The NY Strip which I had this time was cooked perfectly. I especially think their prime rib on Saturday evenings is the best around.
I particularly enjoy their maze platter and steamed mussels.
I found this place on the OpenTable app as I was riding shotgun with my boyfriend down the 95 after 9 PM on a Saturday. We took the very next exit and found The Goose quickly and easily, which is a plus when it can be hard to find a place still serving dinner at that time in CT.
My Honey, who adores French onion soup, pronounced theirs as one of the best he has ever had. I enjoyed my mushroom ravioli in cream sauce. We had a few other things that were also terrific.
We sat in the large dining room to the right of the entrance. Lovely decor and we appreciated the good service.
The noise level rating is high on this visit because we were one of two parties -- the other being a round table of six having a very good time. Fortunately, they were at the opposite side of the room. One woman in the mix had the peculiar talent for distinctive, high decibel laughter. My boyfriend took to imitating her in hopes of hinting to her friends that she might tone it down a bit. She didn't. I imagine that when the room is full, she wouldn't have been as noticeable. It didn't bother me as much because they were obviously having a good time and may not have a chance to get together often. Also my companion has excellent imitation skills, which can be entertaining. They left before we did, so we finally had the room all to ourselves.
We intend to visit again -- lots on the menu is tempting!
Service was slow nd inept. It took ages to get drinks and a bottle of wine. The waiter was hopeless. The food was slow to arrive and not terrific.
Avoid the place.
Very noisy during most recent visit and service slower than normal. Great food and good value.
Nice menu, good service, and friendly environment makes the goose a good choice. I like that you can choose to sit in bar or dining room
We were seated in the bar/fireplace room, and it seemed understaffed. Other than that, everything was great.
Our dinner at the Goose was once again exceptional! The prime rib special on Sat night is fabulous. The Mezze Platter is delish & great to share!! Kevin was very attentive & very friendly!
Food was good, service wasn't great
Main dining room needs redecorating but reliable food and good service.
The food's always great at the Goose and they have a great variety for different tastes and appetites!!
Sunday late brunch ,food and service was perfect
Best place in Darien!!!
A cozy place that's a bit pricey for what it is. The p,ace is a bit inconsistent but I enjoy the ambience and vibe. I'll be back.
Lovely warm ambiance. Food consistently good.
We've been going to the The Goose (formerly The Black Goose) for many years. It's been deteriorating since becoming The Goose but this was it. We're removing it from our list.
Third time here and always enjoy the atmosphere and food. Wait staff always friendly
I thought everything was great, except for the price for the size of my Black Russian. It was $12 in a small glass.
Was great to just sit at the bar, have a good beer and angood steak next to a roaring fire. Very chilled out.
Have dined at The Goose many times, but usually for dinner or lunch. Brunch was very disappointing. The food was sub par, including dried out ham, and our waiter appeared to be bothered when we asked to return an omelette that was prepared incorrectly.
Additionally, while the dining room had many open tables (pardon the pun), the hostess sat a father and 4 children, all under the age of 5, right next to us which made for a very noisy meal.
