Love the cozy atmosphere, the cheese board was out of this world
The restaurant was a little hard to find with the poor signage. Their service and food more than made up for it. Will definitely visit again.
Perhaps the best service I’ve had in Philadelphia tonight and perhaps anywhere. Everything was great. I couldn’t speak more highly of this place.
Great experience overall. Wait staff professional and friendly. Bar menu was full of pleasant surprises and the food was spectacular. Tavern dining with a Gallic twist
Excellent service and great food and drink. The daily specials are always brilliant with a cocktail to match
Terrific neighborhood spot
We love the Good King! We always feel welcomed and the food is always outstanding. I typically eat too much and don't have room for dessert. I can't resist the socca appetizer and it's seasonally a little different every time (love that). I had the endive salad and I'm still thinking about it 2 days later - hard to do endive right! My date loved the confit and I wish we'd had room for the chocolate cake! Also, the specialty cocktails are always a treat. Glorious!
One of the absolute best restaurants in the city! I was hesitant to leave this review - because I don’t want too many people to come and make it harder to get a reservation!
But this place has the most delicious eclectic food. It’s small, intimate, and the menu is so well thought out. It’s not that cheap, but worth every penny.
The service is impeccable - the servers are lovely and very knowledgeable. I love this place - I would go all the time if I could!
Warm and friendly with great cocktails and a menu that brought me back to a Parisian bistro. Can't wait to go back and try more of the menu.
From the craft cocktails to the chocolate creme brûlée, our experience was delightful. The servers were attentive and knowledgeable, the food delicious and the soundtrack spot-on. We will look forward to our next visit.
Very Good but not great food. Several items were very oversalted. Very fun atmosphere.
What a find! A local feeling, intimate and warm space with very good French cuisine! Like a mini-Parc just off Washington Square! Good prices - could be my pop in for dinner neighbor hood place!
The Good King restaurant is my best find in a long time!
Atmosphere is so warm and welcoming! The food was truly amazing! I had their onion soup and lamb stew which were specials of the night. Both were done with mouth watering blended flavors that took away the winter chill! Well done!
Monkfish was tough. Chickpea pancakes were great. Wine prices are ridiculous, but this seems to be true in all PHL restaurants.
The food was very good and service was excellent but we will not return as the noise level was too loud to have a conversation. We did not find it a relaxing dinner
We had a wonderful time. The Good King gets the ambiance and food just right.
Top notch service, food & ambiance. One if my new go-to’s. Hit every mark! Very impressed.
Great food, great music.
Has been one of my favorite restaurants for years, and did not disappoint for my 30th birthday dinner with family. I decided to move the reservation up a bit to accommodate their closure for a private party, and they were so appreciative, they greeted us with complimentary champagne! Food was delicious, as always. Service was spectacular, and they treated us so well all throughout the entire meal. The wine that 4 of us had was great, and the cocktails & whiskey another had were phenomenal. I will continue to sing the praises of The Good King Tavern, and be back!
My Favorite place in Philly. Steak Frite is my favorite. No nonsense, no fakery- nice place, nice people, great food.
Food was excellent service was fine atmosphere would been improved by a friendlier staff. Biggest negative was overpriced wine by the glass and cocktails.
Never disappoints. I almost always get the duck and the cheese plate and they are always just different variations on delicious.
Service was great. Coat check, attentive waitress and quality food. The only negative would be the seating is tight and not the greatest of comfort and it was a bit pricey. Prices are on the on line menu so I should have caught it.
I am ashamed that I live 8 blocks from here and have never been here. This week I are and drank there 3 times. Steak frites and middle of the road French Red does the trick. A great find and instantly in my rotation.
This small, corner restaurant exceeds expectations. It has an excellent wine list, with everything from inexpensive, quality choices to pricey, interesting bottles. The food was maybe the best bang-for-the-buck I've had in Philadelphia. My friend and I ordered sweetbreads and bone marrow and reclette tartine as appetizers and a carafe of the house red. I had the duck breast special, served on a sort of pilaf made with rye grains, spinach, and mushrooms, and a delicious pan sauce. My friend had mussels with a subtle garlic cream sauce and fried shallots. Both were great! We ended with coffee and the whole meal was less than $100 total. I will definitely be back, probably for a date!
We had the lamb breast and a burger here for our snowy date night on Saturday. It was a great atmostphere, delicious food and excellent prices. I have recommended this to my friends as a great spot to try!
We loved the cheese plate and we each had a entree. My mussels were amongst the best I've had in Philadelphia.
Many of the entree items were no longer available. 2 of the 4 people in our party became sick later that evening, presumably from the escargots. The 2 steaks of the steak frites entrees arrived cold as did the mussels. Usually one of my favorites dinner spots. Disappointing.
Dinner was very good, waitress was excellent in timing the meal and with descriptive menu suggestions. Best part was the outstanding wine selections, especially deep with Loire Valley wines- really great attention to detail which also carries over to the kitchen!
Took me back to the feeling of being in a Paris bistro - Escargot and Steak-frites excellent.
My girlfriend and I have been going to Good King now for over a year, and it has become our favorite place to have a dinner date in Philly. The food is wonderful, and we enjoy the new variations of meals each time we go. The atmosphere is a good vibe, not too quiet, but not too loud. I always dig the jams being played. We were just there recently, and are still talking about how good our meal was days later. Good King is the best.
Good food and value but so cramped. Literally have to have waitstaff move your table out to be seated and it makes you unable to freely get up to use restroom.
We thought this had a nice combination of really good cooking (interesting and really accomplished; as good as many top restaurants, and we dine out a lot, but still with a gastro pub vibe). The wine and beer choices were good and the service was super (attentive, friendly, knowledgeable). We were impressed and will go back.
Enjoyable 1st dinner. Nice wine list. Chick pea fritter with ratatouille was a favorite.
Tables are very close. Enjoyable for us as we met 2 ladies down from Manhattan for the day. However some diners may not be as friendly.
Inventive dishes, stellar service, great house wine and impressive wine (by the bottle) list. All-around wonderful neighborhood bistro. A corner bistro from France in QueenVillage/Bella Vista!
Fantastic lively bistro.
Always good, just changed to fall menu. Had poussin served w/ kale and pumpkin seeds - a little tough and seeds were just raw and weird so not sure I'd order again. Trout was great and a pasta dish was yummy. Drinks always a highlight.
The food was disappointing
Onion sup very heavy cheese
Great experience! Server was knowledgeable and helpful with his suggestions. Dinner was reasonably priced and satisfying portions. The restaurant was cute and cozy. Finding parking was difficult, but worth the trouble. Glad we found this place!
Great food and great service . Love the vibe and the music playlist was perfect for Sunday brunch. Great French classics
