The Good King Tavern
Our first time here. The food was very good with a select but wonderful menu. My daughter kept on commenting a day later on the flavors.
Our server was very distant. But the assistant was attentive. We asked him a question on one of the dishes and he answered wrong( which we wouldn’t have known) He came back, very apologetic and gave us the right answer.
We had z a reservation for 2. I wish we would have been given the option of the high top or the 2 tops on the back. The 2 tops on the back are on the middle of the serving entrances and blocked from the main room which seemed to have more of the atmosphere. Next time I I will request to stay in the front.
Very good restaurant experience. The steak frites were very good.
Fantastic dinner! Food and service were wonderful. Cozy, perfect for a great night out. Will definitely be back.
Overall excellent excellent!
Great vibes, very good food. A good night guaranteed, but definitely expensive for what it is - 3 people; one drink, an appetizer and a main course each = $180 with tip.
We went for lunch on Sunday so I imagine this place is louder later in the day. The room was charming and the traditional French dishes were delicious--cocktails were good too!
One of the best restaurants in Philadelphia. No complaints. Highly recommend the rotating duck special. Cocktail list is super unique as well.
Excellent grilled leek salad with an amazing pistachio dressing. Great and unique drink selection. My entree was a very tasty branzino with haricots verts and an out of this world tomato sauce. Only reason why I didnt give food 5 stars is because the potato leek salad my girlfriend ordered was overpowered a bit by the smoked salmon taste. I definitely recommend this bar/restaurant, overall!
Great new restaurant! Everything was delicious. Would recommend, would come back!
The food was out of this world with service to match
food was good but portions are very small for the price.
Enjoyed a meal at The Good King with my college student daughter after a trip to the Philadelphia Art Museum. The food is very good.
Our waitress was very attentive and had a very smooth cool style.
It would be nice if they had a bit more of a varied menu. It seemed like the choices the evening we were there were limited.
We will return in the future.
We have not been here for quite a while and we were pleasantly surprised at how good everything was. We can’t wait to go back...
The best steak frites in Philadelphia. Don’t deny yourself, get there and experience a true gem of the city.
Overall good dinner. Excellent sunchokes appetizer. Great cocktails and wine choice. Excellent service. Entrees were good. Definitely would eat here again
Start with some delicious fois gras and finish with the best burger in town. Never disappoints. One of the great spots in phila. Serving great cocktails. Now accompanied by the sister location upstairs - a wine bar. Great night out.
A good neighborhood place. The chef tries.
My new favorite restaurant!!!!! Would kill for the kale that rested under the duck.
We were looking for a cozy, delicious meal while visiting Philadelphia for the Army Navy game. Found this gem and returned one more night it was so good. Make sure to make a reservation.
This is great place.
The waitstaff was friendly, accommodating, and professional.
There’s a great bar.
The food is delicious.
Can’t wait to go back.
A great go to place.
Best Striped Bass I’ve had!
Go there for my wife’s birthday every year.
I’m usually a big fan, but the food wasn’t great this time. The ham served with the raclette tasted like stale refrigerator, and when I mentioned it to the server, his response was, “that’s strange. It’s cut fresh on Saturday.” I replied: “It’s Sunday,” and we all kind of laughed, but nothing was done to remedy the situation.
One of our citywide favorites. Food is always excellent, inventive, and reasonably priced.
I'd love to be more specific about what led to this rating, but we left when customers seated before us were served well after we placed our order. When we raised this with the manager he blamed the lengthy cooking time of the duck breast. However, no warning to the effect was made when we placed our order. So, the food at the Good King Tavern looked very good, but I couldn't say for sure. I never got mine. Many customers seemed to get good service, but I couldn't say for sure. I never had any. Few customers seemed to have little need for intervention by the manager. On this, I can comment. He was quick to blame the kitchen.
From the time we walked in to when I paid the bill the whole experience was exceptional and we can’t wait to go again the food was very impressive if I had any complaint my frites were just a tad too salty but they were so good I devoured them any way. Merci
V nice, good cheese plate
Very limited menu. On the other hand, there were many drink varieties. I know where the $ is, but don’t go there to get a great dinner.
This is around the 4th time we’ve eaten dinner at Good King. I have to say if it was our first, we would not have returned.
We were exhausted and just wanted a burger and fries.
On other occasions, the burgers were generous. Tonight both burgers were nearly lost in the bun. They were also served without ketchup. When I asked for ketchup, after some delay, the waiter brought only one little cup so we had to request another little cup.
Even though we had a reservation, we were seated in the back ,which is lovely, except there was a large party celebrating a birthday with lots of singing and boisterous noise. We could not hear ourselves think much less have a conversation. There were empty booths in the front but we got seated in the back with the bday party.
So our Good King experience was not very pleasant tonite.
Everything was delicious. We enjoyed the French and the North-African inspired dishes alike. Cocktails were superb. More than one vegetarian option. Seafood was perfectly cooked. If I still lived in the neighborhood, this would be my go-to spot.
Great food. Great cocktails. Great location. We've been going there for years!
Excellent food. Service was spot on. Really nice neighborhood venue
Bistro French with a modern twist, in a cozy, neighborhood setting. Have had 2 meals here, both wonderful!
Parking is not easy to find, so if you're trying to make a reservation time, give yourself plenty of time. There's no signage for the restaurant, but it's blue and on the corner. Once we found it, the service and food were excellent!
This restaurant is just lovely
If u can get passed the typical nonsense of having to deal with South St than it’s worth the trip. Our food was Delicious. The place is not a romantic restaurant but a good go to when you want a great meal with fair pricing. Service was friendly and prompt. Definitely going back!
Very loud atmosphere. Food was great - one of the best burgers in Philly!
