About The Ginger Man
The Ginger Man opened in Greenwich in August of 2002 and instantly became one of the area’s most popular restaurants. Known for its warm and inviting atmosphere, the Ginger Man is a favorite among Greenwich locals and neighboring communities. Whether you are looking for a quick burger (maybe the best burger anywhere!), sandwich, or salad with friends or an intimate dinner at a table by the fireplace, The Ginger Man offers you a unique dining experience.
The Ginger Man’s menu accommodates people of all ages with everything from grilled cheese to entrée-sized salads and two to three fish selections daily. The restaurant still uses a real butcher from the New York City marketplace to hand pick its steaks and blend that special mix for its famous burgers.
The Ginger Man features 23 taps, 80+ bottles and a well chosen wine list from small and large Vineyards around the world. The Ginger Man’s burgers and beers were voted “best burger” and “best beer selection.”

The Ginger Man Ratings and Reviews
We met family there and got a corner table upstairs with a comfy bench on one side, next to the window. We loved it! The Ginger Man came recommended to us by a friend who lives within walking distance of Greenwich Ave and knows most of the restaurants there. The food was delicious, service was friendly, our water was refreshed often and we weren't rushed at all.
Will definitely go back.
Hadn't been there for a long time. Went one of the recent extremely cold evenings over New Year's weekend. Sorta chose the place by default. Was presently surprised on the good bar, comfort food . Oysters $20 a dozen. Place was busy. Drawback: music very loud. Hard to have a conversation at the table.
I have fonder memories of the Ginger Man on the Upper East Side (Lex Ave in the 70s, I think?) - where I'd regularly run into a young rising TV star named...Matt Lauer - than this restaurant. The food is good, the service is fine, and I will doubtless return when I'm in the neighborhood, but by 7 pm several of the posted specials were already out, along with several beers on tap. Just annoying. The Greenwich restaurant's ambience is warehouse-y, no charm. The hostess was also a little brusque and dismissive. A final, long-standing Ginger Man pet peeve: serving a burger on an English muffin sounds like a thing, but it simply doesn't work if you plan on eating your burger with your hands.
Kind of a perfect experience: Sitting near the fireplace in the back room (although the upstairs dining is lovely too) with a menu so tempting we struggled to narrow down our order. We actually started with fried calamari, house-made hummus dish and SUPER spicy guacamole. I'm glad we waited to put in the main order, because I ended up splitting a cod special with my husband and our friends loved their food and had leftovers to take home.
The desserts looked amazing, but we were so stuffed.
It is SO cozy and charming with a very vibrant scene. Service was great. Definitely going back.
Totally annoyed and disappointed. From the hostess, bus boy to the waiter-- we were ignored, kept waiting and treated with total disinterest. When our food was served, only some of the order came. When we asked where the rest was we were told "it's coming". No one came and asked if we needed anything at any time. We finally got up to get a candle for the table because that request was ignored too. At the end the waiter tried to hand us dessert menus. We said no and got the check. We will never go back again. Not worth the trouble at all.
The evening started out a bit roughly with the hostess trying to seat the three of us in a Very noisy area near the bar downstairs. When i pointed out that we had made a reservation, she replied "people have reservations." When I replied that we did as well and had specifically asked for a quiet table so we could talk, the hostess reluctantly led us upstairs to a table near a wailing toddler ( I understand but we did ask for a quiet table). That said, the food and beer were very good albeit pricey. So be aware that you need to ask for a table upstairs unless you are there for the bar scene. ( and to be assertive) Do not recommend. Not customer friendly although the waitress was fine.
The kitchen tries to be creative and credit has to be great be given for the intention even though the outcome isn't as probably intended. The seafood risotto was tasteless; so was the lamb burger. The lobster chowder was tasty and so was the generously portioned Caesar salad.
Good beer list.
ALWAYS GOOD, BUT THIS WAS EXCEPTIONAL
i go to Ginger Man from time to time as the noise level is ok, and the food & service are reliably good. usually they have good beers too.
this time i couldn't quite find the right beer - the descriptions are ridiculous !
but everything else was exceptional. i had the blackened fish tacos which were AMAZING.
and our server, whose name i think was Diego, was just FANTASTIC. he patiently brought me several beers to taste before i decided on one. and he was very pleasant, very quick and generally great !
i'll be back soon, i'm sure.
We have eaten at Ginger Man several times, and each time was uniformly great. We enjoy the food, atmosphere, drinks, and service. This time we sat upstairs, where there is a more formal feel and a nice view of Greenwich Avenue. It was a Father's Day treat and Ginger Man is now my go-to brunch place.
I realize it was Mother's Day and the restaurant was busy, but my first disappointment was our table. It was just inches from a busy doorway/clearing station and one of our guests had a direct view of the dirty dish bin. I was hoping for a nicer table, since I had made the reservation well in advance. The food was honestly just fair...the guac was too spicy, feta cheese was in one large clump inside the omelette, key lime tart did not remotely resemble key lime, and one of our guests pulled out a hard pebble, or chip of something, from his cheesecake. Needless to say, he didn't eat another bite of it after that. I showed the server the hard object and asked him to inform the chef or manager, but no one came over to address the matter before we had to leave.
Overall, a somewhat disappointing brunch. And btw, we were charged for the cheesecake.
Good spot on Greenwich Avenue away from all the restaurant action at the bottom of the Avenue. Quality pub like food served in a nice atmosphere with good draft beer selection and craft cocktails. The draft beers change with the season. Overall, good value and a nice spot for a casual lunch or dinner.
The ginger man has the worst hosstess's I think I've ever encountered. Not friendly, lead us to a table under a staircase that was dark and by the front door. We refused the table and she literally pointed to another table and said that's the only other one. We took it but were very unhappy.....she has no business being the first person a customer encounters.....really sets the tone of not a nice place.
Our waitress was very nice.
I have no intention on ever going back there.
