Birthday brunch was a blast! $1 mimosas were delicious as well as the food! Well visit again!
Great service and atmosphere
Expected a restaurant, got a bar. Very limited wine selection. Food was good. Service was a told slow.
Way too loud. It was nice and quiet when we walked in, there were only 6 other patrons in the place, and as soon as they sat us down the crappy music came blaring. If it were like that when we walked in we wouldn’t have stayed.
Have been here many times, but not in awhile. The menu is the same with generous, tasty sandwiches and a good selection of salads and full size entrees. The beer is cold, the space pleasant and the servers are quick, polite and friendly. A good neighborhood place.
Loved the accommodation to our diet at a very reasonable price!!! Great experience.
Great service! Perfect for casual outing with friends.
The brunch is the best 😍
We were very happy with our food. The crab hushpuppies were delicious. Other highlights were that we were able to make a reservation for Saturday night for 7 people, 15 minutes before arriving at the restaurant after the other restaurant that we planned to eat at had a 40 minute wait. The service from the hostess and waitress were poor. The hostess seated us a table that had water dripping on it from the a/c vent on the ceiling. We asked to switch tables and she acted like we should deal with having the water dripping on us. Our waitress seemed to have her head off in the clouds. We had to request everything (drink refills, extra crackers). When she brought us half a dozen oysters on the half-shell, she only brought us two packs of crackers.
Horrible service. Ruined my best friends birthday dinner.
The food is good but don’t go if you have a baby. We went for brunch and there are no baby changing stations. When asked if they had a place they acted indignant.
I've been to General Public before and recommended it to friends for this visit. It was the worst restaurant experience I've had - by far - since moving to San Antonio 3 yrs ago. It was packed and super loud. Our server came by for drink orders and brought me a super hot michelada with raw jalepenos when I had ordered a mild one. I couldn't catch his attention for 10 minutes, so I went to find him. Got a replacement drink a while later. My friend ordered a drink and we reminded several servers that it hadn't come. Finally, she got it 20 mins later. We couldn't get our server's attention to take our food order, so we asked a server who was passing by. She told us they had just moved to a 'team service' model so all servers help all tables. She seemed annoyed that we didn't know this (??) We got our meals and my turkey pita was SO salty it was barely edible. We had to hunt our server down to get our check as well. I cannot express how terrible the service experience was. I was truly embarrassed that I had recommended this place to my friends (who were very disappointed). I don't recommend it. There are too many other great places nearby to be frustrated at this one.
Very attentive wait staff and great food. Kitchen and bar were a little slower than expected.
This place had a great brunch, really enjoyed it.
There were 6 in our party so we made a reservation but when we arrived it was like they didn't know we were coming. They didn't have a table for us so we had to sit outside. We got our appetizer within 15 minutes of sitting down but we didn't get our meal until 30 minutes after we finished our app. Our waiter never checked on us and we kept running out of water and having to ask someone passing by to refill our drinks. It was 90° out, too hot to be without drinks. They blammed the late food on a another big party but we never saw this big party. After we finished eating, the busboy cleared the table and took our drinks before we even got the bill again leaving us outside in the heat with nothing to drink. The food was ok but it wasn't worth the wait. We should have just gone to the Burger Bar across the street.
Our service was absolutely the worst I've experienced in years. In fact, it was so horrible that after 1.5 hours of only getting 1 round of drinks (after a number of times reminding our server what we wanted because he kept getting the order wrong) and appetizers (which all came out at different times over a 25 minute span) we left and ate dinner elsewhere. The food was great; the service was absolutely horrible. We will give it another try but will make sure we don't get served by the same server.
Good food. Great service. Would recommend and go back.
The waitress was available and came by often but not very warm and fuzzy so to speak. Definitely caters to millenium crowd
The food was good but the service was incredibly slow and almost nonexistent. Our server only checked on us once and we were left sitting for over 20 min without water or a chance to order dessert. We had to get the dessert to go because we were going to a movie.
Mother’s Day reservation at 2:30 for 6. Seated right away but it seemed the staff was overwhelmed from the day. Service was a miss. My wife, the mother, got her meal 15 minutes after everyone else got theirs. They comped her sandwich but it made for a challenging celebration. Also, appetizers came momenta before the meal which was a miss. Why don’t they bus the tables? NOTHING was ever removed during service. Bring a cocktail, take the empty one. Remove the dishes at the end. All of this was missed.
The food was absolutely delicious. I was not expecting much from the $1 mimosas but they were fantastic! My only complaint was the smell of the place. It was kind of a mix of sweat and puke...what you’d think an old bar in a college town would smell like after a crazy Saturday night.
My fiance and I were not overly impressed with this restaurant. The service was good but, the food was mediocre. We sat outside, and there was an offputting odor that did not compliment the meal. We probably will not go back.
We had some friends come into town who had never been to here. I come often and it was always good but I haven’t been in a few months. EVERYTHING IS DIFFERENT. The servers are very rude and almost prideful for some reason. Our server COULD NOT get any of our orders right to save her life. Even with all the screw ups we didn’t want to go to management because we thought maybe the girl had a bad day, but what ever the case was it was bad enough to make them never want to visit and I will not go back because it was very embarrassing since I suggested such a “great place”
Thank food was good but it's was way too loud for a restaurant. It was even a bit too loud for a bar
Great food, but the restaurant was very noisy. It took several prompts to have them turn down the ambient music, and eventually we opted to move outside so that we could actually hear each other speak.
Great mimosas and all the food is top notch but service is really slow for having tons of wait staff and never being that busy
Fish and chips are awesome here!!
I was disappointed...the restrooms were dirty, they also were out of soap...there were very few healthy or gluten-free options . Service was slow. The place was smaller than I expected. The only thing I would recommend this place for is maybe drinks with your friends.
When you ask the server for a recommendation, Tell them what you have a taste for on the menu, and she says you can make that at home, It changes your experience. Not a good way to impress a first timer. Furthermore if I cared about that then I actually would cook at home. Outdoor seating and tables could be wiped down regularly. Otherwise decent service.
The atmosphere and food are great. THe music is too loud! Otherwise I would recommend for certain!
The food was ok and the place was good. My problem was with the service. We went for brunch and we ordered a bottle for mimosas, and it arrived almost when we were finishing our plates. We didn't have enough time to drink our mimosas in a relaxing environment, due to the fact that the waitress was already bringing the check without giving me a chance to have a few minutes to drink an enjoy the conversation with my husband. Also I wanted to order dessert, but because she brought the check without letting us finish pur brunch, we decided not to.
The food was good. Great rib-eye, and the grilled cheese sandwich my little one had was good. The negative is, that eventhough the restaurant wasn't crowded, the service was mediocre, and slow!...they really need to train the gentleman at the door (hostess) and the waiters!!!
We received great service. Good food and drinks.
Awesome service and excellent food.
My and 10 of my girlfriends made reservations here to celebrate Galentines Day! The service was great and super fast, the food was AMAZING and the atmosphere was super comfortable. Meals and drinks can get a little pricey, but it’s worth the money!
Awesome food/excellent wait staff!
This is my third or fourth time to General Public and it was by far the worst. First, they didn’t have my reservation and had to push two bar top tables together to accommodate my party of 6. There was a huge group that came in right before us but this is why I made a reservation.
The place was poorly managed and didn’t have near enough wait staff for the number of large parties that were there. While our waiter tried his best, it was slow and many mistakes were made.
The food runners brought out one person’s meal super fast but he was done eating before any of the rest of us got food. We later realized (after many entrees being brought to our table that weren’t for us) that the meal brought too early was likely for someone else.
Then when the rest of the food finally came two entrees were incorrect and had to be remade.
The one saving grace was that the food was good.
I never leave negative reviews but this was a ridiculously poor experience.
The food is awesome, it really is. The service is by far the worst experienced in this category. The last three times we’ve g8ne, it’s the same thing. Great food, awesome drinks, horrible service.
Was our large groups 3rd visit for a birthday for 2 of our 14 people....servers and food was great...what ruined half the party’s first experience here was the hostess. She was very upset and irritated about our party of 10 reserved having grown to 14. The restaurant was not busy at all...she complained loudly and made sure we saw her complaining about our large party to customers and other employees.
She continued making gestures and complaining loudly. It made several folks uncomfortable and they wanted to close out early...I told the manager about my issue, she comped my food but the point was to get this horrible hostess away from us with her horrible attitude...she continued making us uncomfortable with taking our empty items away aggressively and complaining to us as other guests came thru and we shuffled to leave as soon as we could and moved half our party to a more welcoming place nearby to continue our celebration in a more festive environment to make up for the awful hostess and her attitude. It’s understandable to hate your job and working when you don’t want to but it’s completely excusable to have someone like this be the First face of your business
We will not return with our large brunch group
Actual menu was limited in choice compared to what’s shown on website.
Service was good
