This is by far our favorite restaurant
The Gavel has done great job of working thru difficult conditions caused by COVID. Nice outdoor setting.....friendly service and.....great food.
Food was delicious! I’ve eaten there many times and have never had a bad meal. Love the atmosphere there when all windows are open! Must go, kind of place
They do it right during Covid with outdoor dining. And my server/bartender - Paul - was exceptional .....as always.
We take the family there probably every other week. Outside area is great and we are choosing to eat outside to to COVID19. The other night service was quick, thankfully, because as we are nearing fall and its getting dark earlier and earlier, it was CHILLY out that night. Hoping that some candles or lights for tables as well as a few deck heaters may be added soon.
Our reservation was at 6:30, and we do not sit until after 7pm.
Fish tacos not fresh fish! If having to beat outside having music blasting in your ears less that 10 ft away not so cool! Save it for when the bars open
Eclectic menu. Great staff, nice brew selection. Patio seating is nice but some are on sidewalk on a busy street so a bit noisy.
the Gavel Burger was fantastic!!
will go back soon!
Great food. Beautiful patio, attentive service without being over bearing. Felt very safe and clean - lots of attention to detail in covid world.
Great food and drinks. Great atmosphere and great service.
Overall it was fine but a few turn offs. We had a table for 830 - it wasn't crowded and we got placed on the sidewalk rather than the deck which was just disappointing. Our waitress seemed very disengaged. No introduction, no offers of any kind, didn't check on us. It was only when she came over to CLEAR our plates that we told her we hadnt received one meal. She was honest that she hadn't put it in and did comp a drink for us but a little more effort would have avoided the whole thing. She was surprised when we said, yes, we still wanted it (my husband would like to eat!). We were her only table by that time. We did get it and it was delicious actually but I don't like to spend my evenings out flagging down staff. She also offered us dessert and when we said yes, she said "well actually its just either cheesecake or carrot cake". I love both but when a waitress describes something as "just"... I'm no longer interested. I think she wanted us to leave - so we did. Too bad because it looks like it could be a cute "regular" spot.
The gavel house has very nice seating on their patio. The also expanded to the sidewalk to get more table (indoor not open). This was our second time there ... first time was in the patio and this time on the sidewalk. I’d still go again.
It was five and the service was good but it smelled like sewerage.
Our first time eating at The Gavel Public House definitely won't be our last! Everything was fantastic from the food to the music!
The food was delicious and the staff were very friendly!
Great food at a very reasonable price. Salmon dish was delicious as well as the steak and cheese rolls!
This was the 3rd time I used the open table app and still had to wait to be seated. I understand it’s Covid but they need to flip the tables and not make people wait .
Everything was great as usual Sarah was wonderful review
Was great would go back
Nachos were less than appealing which is unusual for The gavel . The chips tasted bit like oil and the nachos had a white gooey cheese that had no taste & unmelted shredded cheese thats it... a side of guac & sour cream and like 5 jalepenos.
The lamb chops were good. Mashed potatoes - good. The sliders were not that tasty. The steak tacos were good but the steak was a bit chewy.
I used to say A+ but now Id say B.
Due to COvid we had to sit on sidewalk and that ambiance isnt good at all. It looked way better inside the porch area.
When we first arrived all they had available was a high top table which my companion can not do.Then then put us on sidewalk table..only one without umbrella.
When it became too hot..we asked for umbrella..they did not have one but did move us to another outdoor table in the main area...Having a reservation ahead, I felt service upon seating was definitely lacking.
My beet salad very good but my companions food was marred by a bee...Too bad..she had planned on buying a gift card for her sons birthday..but of course did not.
I think the servers do not realize how important a reservation is..Open Table used to mean more attention to seating etc..Not sure what is going wrong now. THE actual waitress was fine..but the managers working with her..were definitely lacking...do not plan on going back.
Nice afternoon lunch!
Hostess informed us about time limit for dining. That is fine however she stated this time limit is a state law by governor baker. Not true at all as I am in the restaurant business . It is the restaurants policy. Miss informing guests!
Their outdoor seating is great unlike some restaurants that have put tables and fold up chairs on a blacktop parking lot. Very comfortable and based on the number of full tables a very popular place.
Server was ok but did not remove plates timely. Fried clams were a bit over cooked.
Food was good. Nice atmosphere eating outside. Service was excellent.
The food is fantastic and worth the money you pay.
We were told as soon as we sat down we had 90 mins but it took 20 mins for our server to come over and take our order they seemed short staff but food was amazing and the ambiance can’t be beat!
Great service, food was out quick and tasty. A little tight on space between tables.
We love this place. Always have great food and service.
Unbelievable lobster dishes. I have tried the lightly fried lobster tacos, lobster roll, lobster club and lobster is tomato. The best I have ever had and the prices are less than anywhere I have ever been.
As usual, great food, great drinks, very friendly staff. Nice to see even with COVID, most tables occupied.
Amazing food and great outdoor service! The nachos are delicious.
Food and service were good, but they did not have my reservation ready. I had made one earlier in the day and had to wait for a table to open
This is our favorite restaurant. The food, drinks, service, outside seating/atmosphere, music is always top notch, and they delivered on all those things. I would have liked to see just a bit more care in the area of COVID prevention. Tables were properly spaced (but not an inch more than 6 feet), servers were wearing masks, but were pretty close to our faces while talking and nobody was wearing gloves (so, bare hands touching our plates, drinks etc), table/stools were cleaned before we sat down, but not very thoroughly. I did appreciate that we could pull up a menu on our own phones versus having to handle physical menus. This place is great and for all the reasons I love it, it was great. If they showed an abundance of caution versus something more towards the minimum, I'd be at 5 stars across the board.
Catching up with old friends
First time in several years we decided to have dinner outdoors at Gavel and we’re both very pleased. Service was friendly and very efficient. Steaks tips altho a little chewy we’re really tasty and my husbands lobster tacos were fabulous! My side Caesar salad had some brown pieces of lettuce which kind of turned me off. But otherwise the portions huge and overall very good food. Would definitely return.
Seating on sidewalk was not ideal. People walking/jogging/dog walking within a foot of table.
