GATHERING n. / v. – an assembly, like a social, held to come together
We are regulars at the Gathering, have been dining there for over four years. The food gets better and better. My last meal was one of the best ever, creative and incredibly flavorful seafood. Unfortunately the meal almost didn’t happen, I was turned away when I arrived with a reservation and had to “stand my ground” and refused to be turned away. The house manager somewhat reluctantly seated me. From then on service was excellent and the drink and food phenomenal. Bowen, you need to step up the front of the house to match the quality you’ve created in the food, drink and service. I know it was a busy night, but you don’t turn away a regular with a reservation.
Not as good as on prior visits.
Service was sluggish, but friendly.
Redfish was over-cooked. Fried crab claws had an off flavor, like the oil was too old. The hanger steak was very good, though.
They may have been a bit under-staffed this night.
Great, relaxing atmosphere. Food was tasty and service was good. Limited menu.
My husband and I each got a wedge salad and split an order of shrimp and grits. In retrospect, we would have each ordered a full order because the dish was SO GOOD. The music on Sunday night is just outstanding. We highly recommend the Gathering especially on Sunday night.
We have never been disappointed in the gathering. Food is always top notch, service very friendly. The portions are good, the food well presented.
We are so happy this is in our area. I would recommend it to people in the greater Jackson area. Well worth the drive.
The Shrimp and grits were very good. Banana Pudding was disappointing--tasted like pudding out of a box with a few slices of unripened banana and cookies. The Pound Cake with strawberries was very tasty.
Outstanding food & service! Bonnie took great care of us-
Great experience, first time, unique special atmosphere, staff very attentive, food was excellent! Will definitely be back
Excellent service, food. A bit noisy. Would describe menu as more Americana with a Sophisticated Southern twist than call it Southern.
Great time as always. Food was amazing, service was wonderful,,, couldn’t ask for anything more
Best steak in the Jackson area,, hand down! Will be returning again very soon!!
This app works great with reservations. The filets were very tender and cooked to perfection. All our meals were delicious. Had 2 guitarists/singers entertaining us. They were very good. Thank you for a very special 48th and 49th anniversary meal for me and my husband and my sister and her husband.
I took My Mother for Mothers Day and we had a wonderful experience. I had a problem with my appetizer (not fully cooked and I returned it without a problem. The manager was quick to make amends for that problem and gave us a free appetizer & dessert...The atmosphere was friendly and laidback..My Mom had a wonderful experience her steak was Delicious!!No steak sauce needed!!!! The Live band was nice 😍
We would definitely recommend The Gathering..Service, Food and Atmosphere 5 stars💛💛💛💛💛
My husband and I love to come on Sunday nights for the music and fun atmosphere! We love the shrimp and grits, filet, and fish of the south. I love the specialty cocktails. Keep up the great work!
We like this place a lot. I think it has gone through some changes. We stopped going for a while because things were not up to the usual deliciousness. But we tried again recently and it’s back to the standard we’ve come to appreciate and love. Hope they keep up the good work. The food is amazing. 💗
We often order whatever the special is and I did so again this time and loved it. Seafood stew with shrimp, scallops and fish. Great appetizer as well. Liked the sweet cornbread they serve as a starter. Try them out, you won’t be disappointed!
Best blackened redfish I have ever had. Great service. Neat location. Awesome wine options. All around amazing.
Food was not special. Lobster bisque strange. Waitress overbearing. Entree came out too early and was cold sitting on the table while first courses were still being eaten. Expensive for not special. Trying to entertain a friend from New Orleans. Dismal. Hope they can improve as it's a nice restaurant setting in Livingston.
Steak was good but not great; not cooked to specifications. The lobster bisque was not good at all. The bisque was not thick or creamy enough and the lobster was not fresh.
Love this restaurant and the new menu!
We had the duck & dumplings and the blackened fish. Both dishes were perfectly seasoned and cooked- the sauces and sides complimented them perfectly.
This is a lovely restaurant with loads of glamour and ambience. We were one of the first tables to be seated as it was quite early, so it was a little off-putting to have to wait a good little while for our drinks to be served. There is no merlot served by the bar and one of our guests sent back her drink after telling the server she didn't want any salt on her glass of marguerite and it was served with salt.
All our meals were very tasty. The shrimp and grits and the scallops/grits were well seasoned and perfect presentations, although not steamy hot. My vegetarian selections were quite good and satisfying. We asked for bread with the meals We had a discussion about having to ask for extra salt and pepper brought to the table, but this was minor. It may be awhile before we return.
We had an excellent meal. It was a date night for my husband and I. Both of us had exceptional meals. I had the short ribs and they were some of the best I've ever tried. My husband had the special, chicken fried ribeye. It was also outstanding. The portion sizes were huge. We had brunch the next day with leftovers!
Great food. Great service definetly planning on coming back and would recommend to others.
This place was a pleasant surprise. Everything was excellent! Highly recommend.
Good meal with new waitstaff. Waitress was very pleasant though.
As a diabetic the were many things on the menu I could not eat. I want to thank Sunny for helping us work through the menu for me to have a great meal.
Wonderful time. Great service and innovative dishes.
Took family to the Gathering for anniversary dinner. Menu is not lengthy but offered primarily steak and seafood options (no chicken entree avail). My party ordered appetizers, shrimp and grits, crab bisque, steaks, salads, market catch. All of the entrees were delicious! Steaks cooked to order and tender, shrimp and fish great w/ grits. Really enjoyed the fresh salads and soup. Ambiance and storefront a nice surprise. My family is still talking about dinner days later. We will definitely return when back in the Canton area!
Great evening, great food, great service! Enjoyed looking around the place as well. Looking forward to coming back.
One of the best meals I’ve had in a long time!!! A bit of a drive for us but was very much worth it.
We went for my wife’s birthday. The food was great. They made blue-cheese stuffed olives for my martini too.
Service staff needs training. Had to request they remove empty appetizer plates instead of crowding table with dishes. Had to request fresh eating utensils. Waitress interrupted our conversations butting in. Soup served cold and others finished entrees before hot soup returned to table. Very tasty duck but beef short ribs were dry and over cooked. Drove an hour and a half for disappointing expensive meal.
In addition to great food, your waitstaff is outstanding.
Excellent food and service! My grouper special was cooked to perfection and my wife’s shrimp and avocado salad was delightful. A great dining experience!
My boys and I went for Sunday dinner. The fried chicken was excellent! The sides were good. Overall, we enjoyed the experience.
The food was creative and tasty. Our waiter was attentive and accommodating. The live music with the T.B. Ledford band was worth the drive, especially the children! Their rendition of Happy Birthday is marketable. The recipient was pleased beyond words and it moved the happiness level up a couple of notches for the rest of the customers who were blessed to be there. What a fun night! If you need an attitude adjustment or know of someone who does, then come on out to The Sunday night supper. You will leave with a full tummy and a pep in your step.
This is our third trip when visiting the area. Food is exceptional and service is good. We had the redfish and the shrimp pasta. Both were perfectly prepared and were very good. The banana pudding is great too.
Our only complaint is we were sat immediately adjacent to a very large birthday party. That made it difficult to enjoy the meal for two or hear each other. There seemed to be any number of other seating.
Have always enjoyed eating at The Gathering. The food is always on point! The pork rinds/french onion dip are a MUST!!!
Everything was top notch until we paid the bill and tipped our server and then he basically kicked us out before our uber got there and we had finished our drinks due to they had closed!
