was a wonderful evening and we enjoyed our server and dinner service very much. Look forward to many more visits
The sauces were over powering, the duck breast tough and the vegetables tasteless.
Very nice evening overall. We had 8 entrees and 4 appetizers. One dish was dry and over cooked out of all of them, but we were refunded for that. That’s a pretty amazing ratio. We had a private room, which was good as it sounded like people were having a good and noisy time by the bathroom so we closed the door and the noise was greatly reduced.
Even in the private room, the service was phenomenal. Our waters never ran out and the staff was very helpful and wonderful.
THE MEALS WERE DELICIOUS , WELL PREPARED AND SERVICE EXCELLENT .
What's not to like !
I found the English muffin for the eggs Benedict was too firmly toasted on the base. It was difficult to cut through.
The service was lacking in the refill of beverages department, but very pleasant otherwise.
Overall, a very pleasant experience, as usual! We missed seeing the beautiful horses 😔. Wonderful place to relax on a quiet date!
It was our Anniversary and very pleased with everything! Our waitress was awesome and we were treated exceptionally well! Ambiance and food fabulous as well! Will be back!
A very relaxing atmosphere with great food, very friendly service and surprisingly, kids friendly. It was a bit too much sun for my 7 years old but she enjoyed her time there.
The Gates has been one of our favorite restaurants for years and for all occasions, from birthdays and anniversaries to date-nights and evenings with friends. The food and service are excellent, the country ambiance evokes a sense of being away while still within reach of the city.
Went to the Gates for my partners Birthday, it is her favorite restaurant. In our reservation I put down that it was a Birthday. Once at the restaurant, no one asked if it was a special occasion, or asked about the Birthday celebration. The service and food was not up to our expectations for the Gates. The steak was chewy, and her Risotto was "okay". Overall, disappointed that nothing was inquired about the special occasion.
The service was verrrrrrrry slow. We waited tooooo lonnnnnng in between courses. It came to a point when we just weren't as hungry anymore because we waited so long. It seemed that they had to cater to two large groups and were ranked third on their priorities. Meal was very nice, a lot of food. A few of us could not finish. Waitress was pleasent enough but slow overall.
Food and service okay. Have enjoyed much finer dining options for better value within the city. No need to venture out there in future.
The Gates never disappoints! Pickerel is a must... and the Thai Summer cocktail is phenomenal.
Enjoyed sitting on the deck/patio and the food was fabulous with a decent price
An absolutely wonderful time for our anniversary!
Everything was very good except for the Oreo torte. It was dry and did not taste very good.
it was a bit cold in the dining room. the prime rib was a bit on the tough side. overall tho everyone enjoyed.
Our food was delicious. We came here for Le Burger Week and we were not disappointed with the quality of the food that came out. I myself enjoyed duck and it was by far one of the tastiest duck that’s ever been prepared for me. Dessert was delicious light and well pairing with the selection of wines and the bang for buck was definitely there in regards to quality/quantity.
Our only downside was the INCREDIBLY SLLLLOOOOWWWW service provided by our server. It goes without saying that I shouldn’t have to wave a person down every time we need something (water, packing up food, dessert, bill). A periodic check in would address our needs much more efficiently. When our entire dinner takes 2 hours plus (we didn’t order anything difficult or off menu), then something is wrong.
We went to The Gates for my mothers birthday and it was fantastic. Their Sunday brunch is delicious, the service is always top-notch, and the ambience is elegant. Having Sunday brunch here is always a treat.
The meal was outstanding and the steak was the best we ever had. We both agreed that it had surpassed what we thought was the best at a certain three digit steakhouse in Winnipeg. From the appetizer to dessert it was a great experience and the service was fantastic.
Made a reservation and just had in mind that we would like to sit in the atrium. When we got there at 1:15pm and asked to sit there the lady at the front (who was our server) told us that the atrium was already set up for an evening event and that we couldn’t sit there. I simply mentioned that I was looking forward to sitting there when the hostess came around the corner and said “what’s the issue here?” I was surprised at her tone and her question as there really wasn’t an issue. I found her rude and not welcoming.
Thankfully our server was pleasant. We had a nice lunch.
Just like to mention that there several flies buzzing around us throughout the meal. That wasn’t so pleasant.
Overall a nice lunch but don’t think we will return because of rude hostess. We were the only table dining and throughout our 1.5 hour lunch. There’s too much completion out there to give bad service.
This was our first time at The Gates after wanting to try it since moving here to Manitoba 8 yrs ago. It was our 30th anniversary so we booked it. No problems with reservations. The setting was beautiful. The food was amazing. Absolutely no complaints. The staff even brought us dessert, on them, to celebrate our anniversary which was a wonderful surprise. I'm upset that we waited 8 yrs to try The Gates. We will be going back every year now for our anniversary supper. I highly recommend this place. For the price we paid for our meal, it was worth every penny. Last year we went to 529 Wellington and it was way too expensive for the meal we got. Had a better meal at The Gates for a much more reasonable price! Great job.
Nice, bright room. Quiet, relaxing atmosphere. Excellent food, lots of choices.
Thank you for a wonderful evening spent celebrating our anniversary!
we had a lovely experience on Saturday Aug 4, we had an excellent waitress and a wonderful vegetable pasta that was well presented and very delicious. we also had the breads and they are all ways a treat.
a great day was had by my guest and I.
Food was tasty. I definitely come to this restaurant again. Service was excellent.
A lovely brunch, the food was very fresh and hot which can be difficult on a buffet. The service was excellent, ensuring no coffee cup was ever empty.
One of our favourite spots by far. We enjoy the ambiance, the setting and of course the food. Brunch is always an enjoyable treat and we love to bring family and friends when visiting Winnipeg.
I had my Wedding at The Gates in 2016 and it was perfect. We decided to come with some friends to celebrate our 2 year anniversary.
It was so nice revisiting the place we got married.
The service was incredible, the food wonderful and of course the scenic view.
This has to be one of my favourite dining destinations around Winnipeg. the food is always good and well prepared. Service from start to finish is as good as any London restaurant.
As a place to relax and have an enjoyable evening out, this is 10/10 in every way. Expensive but worth it!
40 th Anniversary supper....food and service was great! Background music was not to our taste at all!!
Bison was my choice ...excellent....lamb was also excellent ...
The chocolate coconut torte was very dry and hard....it was a little disappointing considering an anniversary treat ...but enjoyed most everything else.
Very good as usual.
It was very cold. 2 servers helping another table. We were kept waiting unreasonably long for cocktails while watching 2 waters help another table. Asparagus was raw. Streak was dry.
food tasty, portions extremely generous, ambience outstanding
I had the lunch special ... BBQ shrimp wrap ... Very tasty and unique. I must admit that I am hooked on the way The Gates makes a Reuben sandwich and always order it. So trying the enjoying the lunch special was different for me and enjoyable. Service was excellent, as always! Our celebratory cocktails were delicious and perfectly mixed and served. Server was attentive and very pleasant 😊
I must comment, however, that, having used the washroom on the main level, it is in DIRE NEED of a facelift! There was an old used dried up candle in the corner of the vanity, many of the tiles on the vanity top were missing or chipped and it just looked DIRTY!!! It likely was not, but certainly gave that impression. The soap dispenser had obviously been moved on the wall, leaving an unattractive unpainted hole where it had been. And the paint on the walls and door trim where the wall switch is, is grimy, chipped and worn. Come on, Gates ... it is a very tiny room that is heavily used by your customers ... Put some $$ into what would be a very inexpensive reno! Others (all women) in our lunch party shared the same comments and feelings about the washroom.
Great food and service! We weren't rushed and the food was excellent as always.
Our order came in a very timely manner. The server was quite attentive to our requests which made our evening more enjoyable seeing that it was our first time to dine at The Gates. Our meal was cooked to our liking.
Food was delicious and the special was awesome! For the cost of the meal, it was well worth the value of the meal. Cocktails were delicious! Ambiance was nice! Only thing I found was the carpet in the main area was ripping at some of the seams in the carpet and could pose at safety risk. We would go back again.
Really enjoyed our lunch. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The food was very good especially the appetizer. Portions were excellent - just enough. Will definitely return!
We have frequented the Gates for years and will continue.
We visited The Gates for a special occasion dinner - we were looked after superbly! Beautiful location and views as well.
